Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 21

Hi!

A quick post today as I'm about to have some visitors arrive!  Today's layout captured a special moment between Hudson and me as we waited for the others to finish feeding the kangaroos.  We were playing Round and Round the Garden, a firm favourite of Hudson's.

Love his giggles in the centre photo!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 20

Hi!

Today's layout is an assortment of photos I took while we were feeding the kangaroos that didn't really have a place on any of the other layouts I did.  I loved the photos though and didn't want to discard them from the album so I just put them on a layout together.

I only have a handful of layouts to go in my Cleland album. I've enjoyed reminiscing about the day as I've scrapped the pictures, so I'll miss that when I've finished.  It will be nice to move onto another project though.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 19

Hi!

Today's layout features the kangaroos again, but this time the photos centre around Rob and Hudson.  Poor Hudson was soooo over being in the stroller by this time so Rob got him out and helped him to feed and pat the kangaroos.

I'm getting pretty close to the end of my pack of DSP, so I'm having to be creative about how I use the paper.  This time I just used two narrow strips, one down either side of the column of photos.  The main photo is popped up on dimensionals and also has some twine tied around it.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 18

Hi!

Some more kangaroos today.  This time I'm looking at Ada's experiences with them.  As with the other animals she would get close to feed them, but as soon as they looked interested, she'd drop the food and bolt.  So I handed the camera over to Rob and went to help her.  She wasn't keen on the idea of the animals eating directly from her hand, so I rolled down the top of the bag and showed her how to hold it out to the kangaroos.  There was no stopping her after that!  I'm glad she found the confidence to do it, as it's a pretty amazing experience.

I was so proud of her!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 17

Hi!

Today's layout is the first of a few showing the time we spent feeding the kangaroos.  There were so placid and I had no worries at all about letting the kids feed them.  Today's layout focuses on Alex who, as usual, had no fear and jumped right in.

I was a little nervous as Alex approached the kangaroo in the top right photo as it was as tall as he was.   It was all good though.  We'd had a few people give us their bags of feed so we had lots to give to the kangaroos.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 16

Hi!

Oops!  Missed a day yesterday.  For the first time ever I had all three kids at school all day (Hudson was at Kindy).  Rob also had the day off from work so we decided to indulge ourselves by going to the movies to see Harry Potter and then wandering around the shops.  It was so nice to have all that time 'off'.

Today's layout is about the emus we saw at the park.  I have never liked emus so I was very happy to stay on the other end of the camera on a long lens!  Alex and Rob got right up close and even fed them from their hands.  Ada didn't like them too much either - the closest she got was about 10 meters away.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 15

Hi!

Today sees me back to my layouts on Cleland Wildlife Park.  It's back to school tomorrow, so I've been successful in my little self-challenge to scrap and blog a layout a day in the school holidays.  I still have a heap more photos so I will be continuing to post them over the next week or so.  This layout was inspired by the sketch posted this week at Just Add Ink, so I decided to enter it in the challenge.

The photos were just a collection of snaps as we walked from the wallaby enclosure over to the kangaroos and emus.  We didn't see any animals along the way so it was a good chance to get some pictures of the family enjoying our day out.

I used Urban West Rub Ons as the embellishment.  They are long retired, but I love them a lot.  The long flourish section was meant to be a straight border piece, but I cut it at a section that had a bit of a gap so that I could turn it into a corner piece.  It worked nicely I think.  It fit in nicely with the sentiment rub on too.

Ribbon Themed Blog Hop

Hi!

Welcome to our blog hop for July.  Our theme this month is ribbon, and how very appropriate given the wonderful promotion Stampin' Up! is offering this month - FREE ribbon and buttons with a $100 order.  Nice!  The blog before mine was the very clever Judy May's, but all you need to do is jump in and keep hopping til you get back to where you started.  You're sure to find a lot of inspiration along the way.

I decided to do a little 3D project for my part of the hop.  The little box below is the packaging for my project, which you will see in a couple of photo's time. lol

Here's another look at the top of the box.  I wrapped some ribbon around the sides of the box with a cute little bow at the front.  I set a jumbo eyelet into the centre of the top with some ribbon looped out of it.  This acts as a little handle to lift off the top of the box.

This is what you find inside the box:

It's a headband for a little girl!  I'll explain how I made the headband soon.

To display the headband in the box I created an insert with some holes in the middle for the band to sit underneath.  The flower part sits on top of the insert and looks pretty.  Here's a closer look at the flower:

To make the flower I looped the ribbon and then ran a stitch through it.  I think I made about 25 loops all up, and each loop used about 2 inches of ribbon.  When I had the loops all done I gathered the thread and stitched back into the first loop, making a circle of loops.  To make it really secure I put a few more stitches through the bottom, and then sewed the button on top to make the centre look a little neater.  I then attached the flower to another length of ribbon that I measured to be about half of the diameter of a child's head.  I then attached some elastic to finish off the headband section.  The elastic makes it nice and easy for the child to put the headband on themselves.

Thanks to Ada for modelling the headband for me!

Headband:
Ice Cream Parlour Ribbon and Buttons (current promotion), elastic, needle and thread

Display Box:

Ink: Chocolate Chip
DSP/Cardstock: Sweet Stitches DSP, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Melon Mambo
Other: Big Shot, Tasteful Trims Die, Jumbo Eyelet, Paper Snips, Glue Dots, White Embroidery Thread (non SU)

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 14

Hi!

Well, I finally managed to get some scrapping done today.  The sun is shining here, so I had to get three loads of washing out on the line and a basketful of ironing out of the way first, as well as the usual chores.  Today's layout shows the kids feeding the wallabies.  The wallabies live in a massive enclosure that you can walk around in, and the wallabies roam free in it.  Alex had no fear - he just walked straight up to the nearest wallaby with a hand full of the pellets and let the wallaby feed.  Ada was a totally different story.  She tried to sneak up on wallaby, but as soon as it looked at her, she'd drop the feed and run away.  I love the picture I managed to capture of her as she tried to sneak around a tree.

And yes, those photos have been sanded too!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 13

Hi!

I'm not usually superstitious, but this is my 13th layout and it's the only one so far that I thought I wouldn't get posted in time.   Hmm.  We've been out all day, first at a kid's Zumba dance class, then picked up Rob in the city and off to Ikea for lunch and finally out to Port Adelaide for the annual Thomas the Tank Engine themed week at the Railway Museum.  Alex is a mad Thomas nut so there was no way we were going to get out of going!  Knowing it was going to be a busy day I scrapped this layout last night, but I forgot about photographing it until after we got home at 5:30 tonight.  So the photo's not the best - it was taken in our bathroom under the heat lamp and no amount of Photoshopping will remove the yellow tones.  I'll take another photo tomorrow to replace this one.

The kids were quite taken with the Echidna we saw.  It was quite busily walking all over it's enclosure.  They loved the rolling, waddling style of walking the echidna had.  And for the eagle eyed, yes, that's more photo edge sanding!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 12

Hi!

Today's layout is a CASE of one of my previous Cleland layouts.  The first layout is here and is the one I did of the koala enclosure.  I had the same number and size of photographs and I just kept coming back to the same arrangement while I was playing around with them.

The strip down the bottom used up a few of the scraps I had on my desk from previous layouts.  There is a narrow strip of the polka dot paper from the Woodland Walk pack, a wider strip of Wild Wasabi cardstock and finally a length of double stitched Chocolate Chip grosgrain.  No cutting required, I just adhered the layers together and onto the layout.  Nice!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 11

Hi!

Today's layout features some of the birds we saw in the Mallee Aviary.  It was nice to walk through the enclosure, but a bit disturbing seeing the warning signs for snakes at the entrance!  Thankfully no snakes were observed, but we did see plenty of birds.  The camera certainly got a workout and I was really pleased with how the photos turned out.

After hours of internet searching I still can't identify the bird at the top right - if you know what it is, please let me know!  The bottom two are a Mallee Fowl and a Tawny Frogmouth.  I think the bird in the circle is a bush budgie but Rob doesn't agree.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 10

Hi!

We packed a picnic lunch for our day at Cleland Wildlife Park.  I hate to say it, but I think I was channelling my mother by taking photos of everyone eating!  We have endless photos of Christmas day that show everyone shovelling food into their mouths.  Nice.  Anyway, back to Cleland.  Hudson was sooo glad to be out of the stroller and the kids were glad to be able to sit down for half an hour or so to eat.  We ate surrounded by the sound of the bush - lots of birds calling and rustling of potoroos in the bushes.  Fantastic!

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 9

Hi!

Today's layout features an animal I was very excited to see - a Tasmanian Devil.  I don't remember ever seeing one before, so I was pretty happy to be able to see and photograph this one.  We had been walking back to the picnic area for lunch and went past the enclosure just after they had been fed.  It took a bit of time to capture some photos as they kept ducking in and out of their little house, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 8

Hi!

Well, I'm half way through my page-a-day school holidays challenge to myself and so far I'm managing to keep up with the pace (touch wood!).  Alex and Ada are both having a friend sleep over tonight, so I'm not sure how much scrapping I'll get done today/tonight.

Today's layout is some more of the wetlands birds we saw on our walk.  The kids were pretty hungry at this point, so it ended up being a quick walk rather than a leisurely stroll.

I couldn't crop any of these photos, so I had to layer them on the page.  To better define the edges of each photo I decided to sand the edges again.  You can see in the photo below how this helped to separate the photos.

I think I'm becoming slightly addicted to sanding the edges of my photos!

Celand Wildlife Park Layout 7

Hi!

Today's layout  features some of the water birds that call the park home. I got some lovely photos with my zoom lens as we walked around the wetland area.  I have another layout for tomorrow of some more of the birds.

I tried a new technique for me on these photos.  After I cut them into circles I sanded the edges of the photos.  It gives a nice thin white edge around the photos that helps to lift them from the background cardstock.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 6

Hi!

Today's layout is about the Cape Barren Geese was saw around the Park.  They are about the size of a regular goose, but they have slightly longer legs.  They are grey all over with some black spots on the ends of their wing feathers.  They have a really short, stubby beak that is bright green on top, very similar to our colour Wild Wasabi.  The kids tried feeding them some of the pellets we had bought to feed to the furry animals but the geese weren't very interested in them.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 5

Hi!

As I mentioned yesterday, today's layout shows the kids getting to pat a koala.  They were quite hesitant at first, but they all ended up having a pat and they were glad they did.  I can't remember the name of the koala, but he (she?) was very patient as the kids took their turns.  Even Hudson had a turn.  I held my breath as I was half expecting him to grab hold of the fur and pull, but with a bit of help he patted the koala nicely.

The main photo of the family is double matted and raised on some dimensionals to help it stand out from the rest of the photos.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 4

Hi!

Today's layout features some of the cute little Potoroos that live at Cleland Wildlife Park.  They are everywhere, but they are so tiny you have to look hard to see them amongst the shrubs and bushes around the Park.  We saw this Potoroo when we were in line to pat a koala - that layout is for tomorrow.

I wanted the photos to look like Polaroid photos, so I extended the bottom edge of the photo mat.  It's a nice little space for my title and some journalling.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 3

Hi!

Today's layout of our trip to Cleland Wildlife Park shows the Koala enclosure.  The Koalas were quite awake when we saw them and I got quite a few lovely photos of them munching on eucalypt leaves.  I think my favourite photo though is of the Koala curled up asleep in the fork of a tree.  It's pretty amazing that they don't just fall out of the tree when they sleep!

My layout is straight, it just photographed crooked!

I used my Little Leaves Sizzlit to create a subtle little border of leaves along the bottom of the layout.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 2

Hi!

Here's the second layout on the school holidays.  This one shows the Monitor Lizard at the park.  We almost missed seeing the lizard, as we were looking on the ground of the enclosure.  We couldn't see the lizard, so we thought that the exhibit was closed.  Then, just as we were leaving we looked up and there it was - in the highest part of the tallest tree!

Luckily I had my zoom lens so I was able to get a pretty good picture of the lizard.

Cleland Wildlife Park Layout 1

Hi!

Today marks the first day of the school holidays for my family.  I love school holidays!  No rushing around, just chilled days at home - perfect for cold and rainy winter days.  I have given myself a little mini challenge over the holidays - to scrap a page a day.  In March we went to Cleland Wildlife Park for the day.  I'd just got my new DSLR camera, so I took a HEAP of photos.  So each of my layouts will be about our day at Cleland.

This is my 'title page'.  The photos were taken out the front of the park before we entered.  I'm using the Woodland Walk DSP for the entire project as it's the perfect paper for the layouts.

Stamp A Memory July Challenge

Hi!

Today at Stamp A Memory marks the start of a new scrapbooking challenge.  This month there is a cute Page Maps sketch for you to be inspired by.

Here is my layout, using a photo my husband Rob purchased when he saw the Tutankhamen Exhibition in Melbourne recently.  It's a high gloss photo, so I couldn't photograph it front on.  It is so glossy that you could see my reflection quite clearly in the photo!

I simplified the sketch quite a bit as it didn't quite fit with the graphic style strip I made for the right side of the layout. Blue and gold were common colours in Egyptian art and clothing, so I went with them on the strip.  I used Sahara Sand as a base to represent the stone walls of the pyramids.

I hope you can see it in the above photo, but I scored some lines in the base cardstock.  I looked up some Egyptian photos online and noticed that in a lot of the hieroglyphics there were vertical lines separating the columns of pictures.  My score lines are meant to represent this on my layout.

We'd love you to pop on over to Stamp A Memory and have a go at this challenge - it's a great source of scrapbooking inspiration.
