AWH Colour Creations: Balmy Blue

Hi!

You may remember that in 2018-19 I participated in the Art With Heart Colour Creations Blog Shares. Well, it's back again! This time it's the Colour Creations Showcase, but otherwise, it's the same. Each week on a Wednesday evening, we will all post cards using one of the Stampin' Up! colours. I used the last round as an opportunity to try out new techniques and styles, and I will try to do that again.

Week one is Balmy Blue!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations Showcase, Snow Front, Blossoms In Bloom, Stitched Rectangles Dies

Very recently I purchased the Snow Front stamp set, as it was carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue. I've had a lot of fun with Waterfront, and hopefully I will with Snow Front too. Let's talk about the card base, though. On the top section I stamped the new Blossoms In Bloom stamp set. I just wanted it to look like random stamping, rather than the gorgeous flowers it is, which is why I stamped the spotty stamp around the edge. It's meant to be the flower centre.

The bottom half of the card base is simply narrow strips of Balmy Blue cardstock glued to a larger piece of Balmy Blue cardstock. I like the subtle texture this gives to the card - a bit like a wall with wood panelling on the bottom half. I don't know what it's called, but I do like the look, especially on cards!

EDIT: Kathryn tells me it's a dado rail, and she'd be right!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations Showcase, Snow Front, Blossoms In Bloom, Stitched Rectangles Dies

To help the main panel stand out from the background, I matted it twice, once with Balmy Blue and then again with the new Misty Moonlight. It looks quite dark here, but it's more of a mid blue. I created the scene with Snow Front and then used a blending brush to add a little ink to the sky. It's a very wintery card!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations Showcase, Snow Front, Blossoms In Bloom, Stitched Rectangles Dies

I repeated the scene on the inside, including the ink blending. The sentiments on the card are from Blossoms In Bloom.

I hope I didn't make you feel too cold looking at my Balmy Blue card!

Time now to pop on over to Catherine's blog, where you'll find the rest of this week's Colour Creations Showcase links. I think there are over 16, so plenty of inspiration to be had for Balmy Blue.

Bye for now,

Tina

AWH May Creative Showcase: Sketch

Hi!

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase. This month the Art With Heart Team have amazing projects to share with you that have been inspired by the card sketch below. The sketch is to be used as a starting point and has been interpreted in many creative ways by the Art With Heart Team.

During May, SU Demonstrators are able to preorder select products from the upcoming Annual catalogue. It's a sweet month, as we have products retiring, some carrying over, and some brand new things to play with. I have used some products from each of those categories on my card.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Beautiful Moments, In Good Taste DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Watercolouring

Let's talk DSP! The two papers I have used are from the new In Good Taste DSP pack. This is a must have! Remember the Wood Textures DSP we had a couple of years ago? This pack has a lot of similar papers, but in 12x12! Fabulous! There are also patterns of marble tiles and various textiles. The papers really are amazing. I have chosen a light wood pattern, as this makes me think of the beach, which fits my focal image. The banner was punched from one of the fabric texture sheets. You will just want to run your fingers over it when you see it in the flesh!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Beautiful Moments, In Good Taste DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Watercolouring

Carrying over from the Jan-June Mini is the gorgeous Beautiful Moments stamp set. I'm probably a little biased, as I fell in love with the set when I presented it in Sydney last November. I stamped it on Watercolour Paper in Saddle Brown Stazon, which is also carrying over.  I coloured the image with my Aqua Painters, which are retiring, but being replaced by an even better set of brushes. I love a bit of watercolouring, so I'm excited to get my hands on those! The colours I used on the image are Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, Real Red, Flirty Flamingo, Soft Suede, Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green and So Saffron.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Beautiful Moments, In Good Taste DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Watercolouring

I couldn't resist adding a little more of the fabric DSP to the inside. I also used another length of the Night Of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker's Twine on the inside. Sadly, it's another product that is retiring. It's a lovely, thick twine, great for bows.

I haven't stamped a sentiment on the inside, as I'm not sure what I'll use the card for yet. The 'Thinking Of You' on the front leaves it pretty wide open for a range of occasions.

Next up is the fabulous Catherine Proctor.

AWH April Creative Showcase: Mother's Day

Hi!

Welcome to the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team Monthly Creative Showcase. The theme for this month’s showcase is Mother’s Day. Under the current conditions Mother’s Day this year is going to be completely different to any other Mother’s Day celebrations.

I'm not sure yet how we will celebrate! My mum lives in a different state and my MIL lives in a little town nearly an hour away from us. I see several FaceTime calls on the horizon for Mother's Day! I guess a mother's job is to keep her family safe and healthy, so we will do that by staying in our little household bubble.

The Art With Heart Team are hoping to share a little Mother’s Day love and inspiration with you tonight.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Mother's Day, Timeless Tropical, Timeless Tulips, Beautiful Day, Tropical Oasis DSP, Nature's Thoughts Dies, Subtle 3DEF

My Mother-In-Law loves her cruising - although that might change! When I thought of what card I could make for. her, I decide to go with a tropical theme to fit with the cruises she's taken recently. I started by stamping a heap of images from Timeless Tropical in Memento ink. I then coloured them using my Watercolour Pencils, blending with my old favourite, Wink Of Stella. The piece they are layered on comes from the temporarily retired Nature's Thoughts Dies. I sponged the top half with Pool Party ink, and the bottom half with So Saffron, hoping it would look like sand and sky.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Mother's Day, Timeless Tropical, Timeless Tulips, Beautiful Day, Tropical Oasis DSP, Nature's Thoughts Dies, Subtle 3DEF

I googled frangipanis to see what colours to use, and I found a gorgeous variety called Darwin Monsoon. They are tricolour, so I used Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight to colour the blooms. I layered a couple of ribbons under the sentiment, which is a shortened image from the Beautiful Day stamp set. I didn't have any Rich Razzleberry ribbon, so I coloured a length of Whisper White Seam Binding with my Dark Rich Razzleberry Blend.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Mother's Day, Timeless Tropical, Timeless Tulips, Beautiful Day, Tropical Oasis DSP, Nature's Thoughts Dies, Subtle 3DEF

I used the same DSP from the front on the inside. Both pieces of Tropical Oasis DSP have been dry embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder. The inside sentiment is from Timeless Tulips. I hope my MIL likes her tropical Mother's Day card, even though she won't be going on any tropical cruises for a very ling time!

That's all from me tonight, now you're off to see the wonderful creations of the lovely Rebecca Jacovou.

AWH March Creative Showcase: Monochromatic Cards

Hi!

Welcome to the new Art With Heart Monthly Creative Showcase!

This month the Art With Heart Team are featuring Monochromatic cards, that is cards that only use different shades of the same colour. This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the wonderful range of Stampin’ Up! colours across our inks, papers and embellishments that can be combined to produce the amazing monochromatic samples we have to share with you.

I actually found it quite difficult to narrow down which colour I was going to use! There are so many fabulous colours to choose from in Stampin' Up!'s colour families. In the end I went with Bermuda Bay and Pool Party, mostly because of this sheet of DSP in the Lily Impressions pack - why have I not played with this paper sooner??? I love how it looks like paint smeared on a canvas, and best of all, it is free with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Creative Showcase, Power Of Hope, Label Me Bold, Lily Impressions DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Stampin' Blends, Sale-A-Bration

I stamped the lady and lanterns from Power Of Hope in Memento ink and coloured them with my Bermuda Bay and Pool Party Stampin' Blends. I didn't colour the lanterns or umbrella much - just a quick swipe of Light Pool Part in key places.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Creative Showcase, Power Of Hope, Label Me Bold, Lily Impressions DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Stampin' Blends, Sale-A-Bration

I used another Sale-A-Bration freebie to decorate the card - some Bermuda Bay sequins from the Metallic Baker's Twine and Sequins Combo Pack. The sentiment is from Label Me Bold, stamped in Bermuda Bay.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Creative Showcase, Power Of Hope, Label Me Bold, Lily Impressions DSP, Stitched Shapes Dies, Stampin' Blends, Sale-A-Bration

In order to get the white streaks in the DSP in the spot I wanted on my card, I had to crop a wide strip from the DSP first. Waste not, want not, I used it on the inside of my card! It's wider than I'd usually crop the paper, so I chose not to add a sentiment to leave enough room for writing.

That's all from me, now you're off to see what the wonderful Kate Morgan has made. What colour has she chosen? We don't see each other's cards until we do the hop, so it's a surprise for us too!

Bye for now,

Tina

AWH February Blog Hop: Masculine Cards

Hi!

Welcome to another Creative Showcase with the Art With Heart Team. This month we are featuring Masculine themed projects. We have many masculine themed products in the Stampin’ Up! range including Stamp Sets and coordinating Dies, Designer Series Papers, Embellishments and Embossing Folders. The Art With Heart Team have a wonderful selection of projects to inspire you to create Masculine Masterpieces.

I've been wanting to try some no-line colouring with my Stampin' Blends, and this Showcase seemed like a great opportunity to do so. A Good Man was the best stamp set to colour, so that's the set I reached for. Tonight's post is a little photo heavy, but I wanted to show you the main steps.

I started by using my Stamparatus to stamp the image in Blushing Bride, stamped off twice before I stamped on my Thick Whisper White cardstock. I forgot to take a photo until I'd coloured the skin ares with Ivory and the hair and shoes with Soft Suede.

Here they are all finished! I used Night Of Navy for the jeans, Highland Heather for the pants, Mango Melody for his shirt, and Mint Macaron for her's. Her hair was Crumb Cake. Each area was outlined with the dark Blend and then coloured/blended with the light Blend. I also went over the shading lines in the stamped image with the dark Blend. It helped to have the stamp beside me to refer back to.

The next step was to think about the background and to draw some light pencil lines. I decided I wanted them to be on a path through a field of wild flowers. So sorry for the dodgy photos - they were taken on my phone at night, so not the best photography conditions!

I coloured the path using my Crumb Cake combo. I drew over the pencil line with the dark blend, and then used the light blend, colouring in a circular motion, to pull the colour into the rest of the path shape. I then used the dark blend to create the shadow. The grass was coloured using my Granny Apple Green Blends in a similar manner - dark along the edge, and then circular motion with the light to colour the rest.

The man and girl needed something to be gazing at, so I used some balloons from Above The Clouds. I think they work well. They were coloured using Poppy Parade, Night Of Navy, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather and Soft Suede. The sky was coloured din Balmy Blue in the same was as the path and grass.

At this stage, I got a bit of stage fright, and left the card until late the next day. I knew the next step was critical, and I was so frightened that I'd mess it up and ruin the whole card.

It was the wildflowers that I was scared of messing up, but once I got the courage to do it, I was thrilled with the outcome. I started at the bottom of the grass area and, using a flicking motion with the bullet nib of my dark Mossy Meadow Blend, I drew a heap of lines, designed to look like clumps go longer grass. As I got further up the card, I switched to my dark Old Olive Blend, and then my light Mossy Meadow, and finally the light Old Olive. I faded them out to the top of the grass section on the right, but mid way on the left section. I wanted them to blur out, like they would on a real landscape.

To create the flowers, I just added dots of colour using my dark Night Of Navy, Highland Heather, Mango Melody and Poppy Parade Blends. I made the dots larger at the bottom of the card, and they get smaller as they move towards the top of the card. You can also see that I added some pebbles on the path using the bullet tip of my dark Crumb Cake Blend.

Here's the finished card, finally! I hope it was worth the wait! I didn't want to cover too much of the front, so I just used a short sentiment and the Classic Label punch. I love the way the variation in the sky looks a little like a storm is coming in.

To create the inside, I just stamped the main image again, but in Mossy Meadow. It was still on the Stamparatus, so it lines up with the same image on the front! I decided to stamp the more generic 'it's your day' on the inside, so that I can use this for either a birthday or even Father's Day.

Thanks for sticking with me to the end, now you're off to see what the wonderful Vicki Boucher       has created.

Bye for now,

Tina

AWH January Blog Hop: Sale-A-Bration

Hi!

Welcome to the first Art With Heart Blog Hop for 2020. This month we are featuring cards using the amazing products you can earn for free during our Sale-A-Bration promotion. Until the 31st of March, for every $90 you spend on Stampin’ Up! products, you will earn free products from our Sale-A-Bration brochure. Just ask me if you'd like to know more!

I recently earned the gorgeous Golden Honey Specialty DSP, and so that's what I'm using on tonight's card. I'm not big on bees, but there are enough non-bee papers to make it worth getting for me. The DSP is specialty paper because one side of each sheet contains gold foil elements.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sale-A-Bration, Happy Birthday To You, Golden Honey SDSP, Watercolour Pencils

As much as I'm not into bees, I couldn't resist adding a couple of the gold foil bees to the front of my card. They were very easy to fussy cut from the DSP. I popped them up (using Black Dimensionals - yay!) over a piece of black and gold DSP. It's meant to be a honeycomb look, but I'm already trying to work out if I can get it to look like a circuit board on a future card. LOL.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sale-A-Bration, Happy Birthday To You, Golden Honey SDSP, Watercolour Pencils

The SDSP features black, gold and white, but I wanted to add some colour. After experimenting with Blends and Stampin' Write Markers, I ended up using my Watercolour Pencils. The bottom third of each flower/petal was coloured with Rich Razzleberry, and the top third with Flirty Flamingo. I then used my Wink Of Stella (what else!?!) to blend the colours into the middle third. The pop of colour is quite nice, I think!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sale-A-Bration, Happy Birthday To You, Golden Honey SDSP, Watercolour Pencils

I used a Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Happy Birthday To You, for the sentiments on my card. I also used a left over strip of my coloured flower DSP to finish the inside of the card. There wasn't a flower at the left of the strip, which looked a little boring, so I fussy cut a tiny gold bee and glued him over the leaves.

That's all from me tonight, so now you're off to visit my lovely friend, Rachel Palmieri to see what wonderful creation she's made using her SAB goodies. I can't wait!

AWH December Blog Hop: Add A Little Sparkle

Hi!

Welcome to the final Art With Heart Blog Hop for 2019. Getting in the spirit of Christmas and New Year celebrations, this month our theme is ‘Add A Little Sparkle’. We have a huge range of sparkly  projects to share with you featuring products such as Glimmer Paper, Rhinestones, Delicata Ink, Shimmery White cardstock and much more. All of these products are available from Stampin’ Up! and any of these lovely ladies would be happy to assist you.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Greatest Part Of Christmas, Night Before Christmas DSP, Painted Labels Dies, Glimmer Paper

I'm still in Christmas card mode, and so my sparkle was some Glimmer Paper on my card. I hadn't used this Santa hat DSP from the Night Before Christmas pack, so it was well past time to chop into the paper. I cut one piece in half, which was enough for two card fronts. I then added a narrow strip of Poppy Parade cardstock in between the DSP and the Silver Glimmer Paper.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Greatest Part Of Christmas, Night Before Christmas DSP, Painted Labels Dies, Glimmer Paper

The sentiment, from Greatest Part Of Christmas, fits so nicely into a new die from the Painted Labels Dies, available from January 3rd.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Greatest Part Of Christmas, Night Before Christmas DSP, Painted Labels Dies, Glimmer Paper

I finished the inside with another couple of strips of the Santa hat DSP. I like how it copies the design from the front, just much more simplified.

I said earlier in my post that I cut one piece of DSP in half, and so I made another card. I couldn't decide if I wanted to use Silver or Real Red Glimmer paper, so I made a card with each!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Greatest Part Of Christmas, Night Before Christmas DSP, Painted Labels Dies, Glimmer Paper

I made one other change - this time I flipped the ribbon to be sentiment side up! Which do you prefer - Silver or Real Red Glimmer paper? I can't choose!

Have you had enough sparkle yet? I hope not! Now you off to the very sparkly blog belonging to Rachel Woollard!
