JAI #459: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Here we are again with the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Rochelle has put together this gorgeous colour combo.

I must admit, when I first saw it I wondered what Rochelle was thinking when she put pink and red together! I also struggle big time with 4 colour combos - I find it difficult to balance out the colours. I was pleasantly surprised with how well this one came together in the end - it's not such a tricky combo after all!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Follow Your Art Suite, Crafting Forever, Fabulous Flamingo, Stampin' Blends

I've used a mix of old and new products on this card. The DSP is from a new suite called 'Follow Your Art', and is a great one for all the crafters out there - paper, paint and fabric. A lot of the DSP has bright, bold designs, but for this card I selected a piece that was softer Blushing Bride. I add some pop to the card I used Poppy Parade to add borders.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Follow Your Art Suite, Crafting Forever, Fabulous Flamingo, Stampin' Blends

The Follow Your Art suite works really well with the existing Crafting Forever stamp set, which is carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue. The scissors are stamped from this set and coloured with my Blends. The bulldog clip is from the It Starts With Art stamp set and is also coloured with Blends. The retiring Fabulous Flamingo stamp set is the source of the sentiments. I wanted a thank you card for a friend who is helping me with a label for my first quilt, and I think this card will fit the bill perfectly!

The inside sentiment is from Crafting Forever, and goes so well with the scissor theme of the front of the card, don't you think?

Do you have an idea of how you can use this colour combo? You can pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog, where you can see the rest of this week's Design Team cards for more inspiration. Don't forget to come back and link up your card too!

Spruced Up Flamingo

Hi!

Gosh, we are getting to the end of our Colour Creations Blog Shares now. I will miss them! Hmmm, I wonder if I can convince everyone to continue for a further 5 weeks with the new In Colours? Maybe!

Anyway, this week we are up to Shaded Spruce. It's a fabulous deep green, new to the range this year as a part of the Regals colour family.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations, Tropical Chic Bundle, Fabulous Flamingo, Amazing Life, Tropical Escape DSP, Fancy Fold

I recently saw this card by my JAI friend Lou, and thought it was a simple, but very effective fancy fold. Before I explain, let me show you how it folds out. You can see that there's a round window in the front of the card. I used my Tropical Chic stamp set to create a little frame for the window. It's carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue - yay!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations, Tropical Chic Bundle, Fabulous Flamingo, Amazing Life, Tropical Escape DSP, Fancy Fold

The first flap opens to show the image from Fabulous Flamingo. I used my Stamparatus to line up all of the layers, making it so much easier to stamp. Sadly, the flamingo is retiring at the end of May. I used a piece of Tropical Escape DSP to anchor the flamingo panel. I will miss that DSP! You can see another little strip of it down the left side of the card....

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Colour Creations, Tropical Chic Bundle, Fabulous Flamingo, Amazing Life, Tropical Escape DSP, Fancy Fold

...which is actually on the inside of the card. I like how it adds interest to both the middle layer and the inside layer - much like the flamingo for the front and middle.

So how do you make this card? Just take a piece of A4 card and cut it in half longways. Score at 4 inches and 8 inches and you're done! Oh, cut your window in the first 4 inch section so that it becomes the front of the card. This way the shorter panel becomes the middle flap, showing that little strip of DSP from the inside. It also folds much more nicely this way.

Time to pop on over to Catherine's blog for the rest of this week's Shaded Spruce cards. Don't forget that if you right click on each link you can open the link in a new tab or window to avoid having to jump back and forwards from Catherine's blog.

Bye for now,

CTC# 212: Sale-A-Bration

Hi!

It's the end of another busy week, which makes it time for the CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop!

I do love a good blog hop! The blog before mine belongs to the talented Judy May. You may have started there, or anywhere on the hop - it doesn't matter. Just keep on hopping until you get back to where you started. Hopefully by the end you'll be inspired to enter out challenge.

This week we are back to CASEing the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue. It's got heaps of great cards, so it was hard to narrow it down to just one. I CASEd a card from the front cover last time, so I decided to head for the back of the catalogue for inspiration this time. I decided I's CASE this card, from the bottom of page 18.

I don't have the Lasting Lily stamp set, but a few days ago I saw a card on the FB, where a demonstrator had punched some daisies from the Gingham Gala DSP. I was keen to give it a go, so this card seemed like a great way to do it.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, CASEing The Catty, Daisy Delight, Fabulous Flamingo, Gingham Gala, Layered Leaves 3DTIEF, Daisy Punch

I used the coordinating Daisy Delight stamp set to create the stem of the daisy. I don't like the tiny little leaves on the stem, so I just used a marker to ink the stem part. I then used the larger leaf stamp and the filler stamp to add the leaves. Much better proportions!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, CASEing The Catty, Daisy Delight, Fabulous Flamingo, Gingham Gala, Layered Leaves 3DTIEF, Daisy Punch

The daisy centre needed a little something, so I added this huge (retired) Iced Rhinestone. I think it finishes off the card quite nicely! How cute does the gingham daisy look? I just can't get enough of this DSP!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, CASEing The Catty, Daisy Delight, Fabulous Flamingo, Gingham Gala, Layered Leaves 3DTIEF, Daisy Punch

I often use 3 layers on my daisies, but this time it didn't look right. I'd already punched the third daisy, so I decided to use it on the inside rather than waste it. I just snipped it in half, layered it, and glued to it to corner of the cardstock, trimming it to fit.

That's it for me, now you're off to visit Siobhan's blog to see what fun she's had with the SAB Catalogue.

Don't forget to also pop by our Facebook group, where you can add your card to this week's challenge.  See you there!

JAI #414: Just Add A Window

Hi!

Whoops! I'm running a bit late with my Just Add Ink post today! This week Nikki has challenged us to add a window or a frame to our cards.

I wasn't sure which one I wanted to do, so I just added both!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Happy Birthday Gorgeous, Fabulous Flamingo, Tropical Thinlits, Tropical Escape DSP

I recently received the new Tropical Thinlits and the coordinating Tropical Escape DSP. Quite conveniently for this challenge, the thinlit set has a window die that I was very eager to use. I cut the window into my Granny Apple Green front panel, and then used some Blushing Bride with my Layering Squares Thinlits to cut a narrow frame to go around it. The colours really pop with the Shaded Spruce card base peeking out. I tried Whisper White, but it didn't pop in quite the same way.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Happy Birthday Gorgeous, Fabulous Flamingo, Tropical Thinlits, Tropical Escape DSP

I didn't buy the Tropical Chic stamp set to match the dies and DSP, and I'm sort of regretting that now! Instead I used the flamingo from Fabulous Flamingo, stamped in Early Espresso, Berry Burst (stamped off) and Blushing Bride.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Happy Birthday Gorgeous, Fabulous Flamingo, Tropical Thinlits, Tropical Escape DSP

The hibiscus flowers on the front and inside were fussy cut from the DSP. I had hoped that they could be cut by the die, but they are a bit smaller. Looks like that stamp set will be on my next order - you'd think I'd know this by now, always get the bundle!

The Design Team have had a fun time with Nikki's challenge. You can see their cards over at the Just Add Ink blog, where you can also link up your card. See you there!

AWH Blog Hop: In Colours

Hi!

Tonight the Art With Heart team are sharing creative projects featuring an “In Colour” theme. Check out the new 2018 - 2020 In Colours and let's not forget the current 2017 - 2019 In Colours, or the outgoing 2016 - 2018 set. If you would like a copy of the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue, contact any of the girls on the blog hop and we will get in touch with you.

I decided to do a bit of a colour sampler with the three sets of In Colours and to achieve this, I ended up making 4 cards for tonight's hop. I started by grouping the In Colours by colour rather than by year group.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

The first card showcases the oranges/corals. From bottom to top the colours are Flirty Flamingo, Grapefruit Grove and then Peekaboo Peach. I was inspired to make this card after I saw this card by Kristin Kortonick. I used her idea, but ended up slanting the spread of squares more to the right than she did.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

I kept the inside fairly simple, as I was really over cutting tiny squares by the time I got to the inside!

Next, I moved onto the pinks. As I said, I was over cutting squares, so I decided to do something a little different, but still similar, on this card.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

The colours on this card are, from the bottom, Fresh Fig, Berry Burst, Sweet Sugarplum and Powder Pink. I simply cut strips of cardstock that were 1/2" thick and adhered them to the card base in varying lengths. The first and last strip are just over half the width of the rest - I needed to do this so that I cold have three strips of each colour.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

I had some off cuts after finishing the front, so I kept them to using on the inside. Waste not, want not! The card was inspired by a demonstrator called Karen Cate. She shared a card that used thin strips of card as a way of using up her scraps. Unfortunately she doesn't have a blog, so I can't link to her card.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, Fabulous Flamingo, In Colours

Next was the greens! There were five colours in this group (the biggest), so I decided to stamp the colours instead of using cardstock. From bottom to top they are Tranquil Tide, Call Me Clover, Emerald Envy, Lemon Lime Twist and Pineapple Punch. I decided to sneak the Pineapple Punch into this card, as Lemon Lime Twist provides a lovely 'bridge' between green and yellow.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, Fabulous Flamingo, In Colours

I reminded myself the hard way while making this card that it's always best to stamp from lightest colour to darkest. Even when you think your stamp may be clean, maybe it's not quite clean!  Oops.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

Last comes the blues. I cheated a little on this card, as there are only two blues in the three groups of In Colours. To make up for it I added an extra two from the list of retiring colours. So from bottom to top I used Blueberry Bushel, Dapper Denim, Marina Mist and Soft Sky.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Sunshine Sayings, Bunch of Blossoms, In Colours

So there you have it, I managed to fit all but one of the 15 In Colours on my cards. Can you think which one I missed? For the life of me, I could not make it 'fit' into any of the colour groups I used on my cards.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the very talented, Rebecca.

JAI #407: Just Add O

Hi!

Did you survive the first week back at school? I have three tired and grump children after a big first week. Lucky it's nearly the weekend so they can sleep in and relax a little.

Friday also means the new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week it's one of my alphabet challenges. We are challenging you to Just Add O to your card.

What do we mean by Just Add O? It means you can use anything that starts with O on your card - it could be the name of a stamp set, a technique, a theme or an embellishment, or any combination of the above!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Swirly Bird, Ovals Framelits

I included 4 O's on my card - I used the outgoing In Colours to create an ocean scene that you can see through an oval opening. How's that for clever? LOL

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Swirly Bird, Ovals Framelits

I started by die cutting the oval opening and then lightly marking the edges on the card base. I then masked, sponged and stamped the ocean using Dapper Denim and the water stamp from Fabulous Flamingo. I then flipped the mask over to sponge Soft Sky over the top of the scene. The boat from Swirly Bird was then stamped using Memento, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Swirly Bird, Ovals Framelits

The boat was so cute that I couldn't resist stamping it again on the inside, however I mixed up the colours from the front.

The Design Team found the O challenge a little tricky, but lucky for you, you get to see all our cards to help spark your imagination. You can see them over at the Just Add Ink blog, where you can also link up your card. Have fun with the letter O!

JAI #393: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Welcome back to another week of Just Add Ink challenges. Did you enjoy the Blog Hop last week? I sure did! Usually the DT get to see what the rest of the team have created before the challenge posts go live, but for Blog Hops it's a secret until the day. This means it's just as much fun for us as it is for you!

This week Rochelle has set the challenge, and it's a colour combination.

How awesome is that mix of greens? Or would you call Lemon Lime twist a yellow? It really doesn't matter, just get it out and get stamping!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Picture Perfect Birthday, Lots Of Labels

I thought the colour combo was very tropical, so I decided to get out my Fabulous Flamingo stamp set out and go to town with the palm fronds. I had memories of curtains in the bedroom I slept in at my Nanna's house having a similar colour scheme, although I think hers were bamboo, not palms. Nevermind, it was still lovely remembering fondly time spent with her.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Picture Perfect Birthday, Lots Of Labels

I also stamped the LLT Label with the fronds. The top Whisper White layer looked a little bare with just the sentiment, so I ended up stamping a flamingo in Crumb Cake to take away from the stark white look. A couple of Gold Metallic Enamel dots and a Tranquil Tide Mini Tassel finished off the front.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Just Add Ink, Fabulous Flamingo, Picture Perfect Birthday, Lots Of Labels

A few more palm fronds on the inside and another sentiment, and it's done! The Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set has some awesome sentiments.

I hope to see you over at the Just Add Ink blog, where you can see the rest of the Design Team cards and link up your card for the challenge.

Bye for now,

Tina

AWH October Blog Hop: Designer Series Paper

Hi!

Tonight the Art with Heart team girls are sharing some wonderful ideas to inspire you with our Designer Series Papers. This month is the start of the new Stampin’ Up! year and we have a special promotion on our Designer Series Paper, buy 3 get 1 FREE for the month of October and there is no limit!

I decided to go with the Just Add Colour SDSP. It wasn't a pack that originally took my fancy, but once I got hold of some and had a play, I was hooked!

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Just Add Colour SDSP, Large Letters, Fabulous Flamingo, Watercolour Pencils

I especially loved the house paper, so that was the sheet I reached for when starting to think of ideas for this month's Blog Hop. I found this section that was easy to trim down to a small row.  It's slightly longer than a regular sized card, but that didn't worry me. I coloured the houses with my Watercolour Pencils, and used my Wink Of Stella pen to help blend them in places - especially the windows.

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Just Add Colour SDSP, Large Letters, Fabulous Flamingo, Watercolour Pencils

Eclipse cards have been all the rage lately, so I decided to turn this card into one. After I'd coloured the houses, I used my Large Letters dies to cut the word 'home' into the panel. I then adhered the panel to a piece of Basic Black cardstock, and then adhered the letters back in place, but with Dimensionals so that they sat up. From the side you can see bits of black popping through, but from the front it is much less obvious,

scissorspapercard, Stampin' Up!, Art With Heart, Just Add Colour SDSP, Large Letters, Fabulous Flamingo, Watercolour Pencils

Does this house on the inside remind you a little of a castle? I think it's the roofline.

Well, that's it from me. Next you're off to the blog of Claire Daly. She's always got something amazing to show on her blog.

AWH Blog Hop: New Catalogue Products

Hi!

Tonight I am participating in a blog hop along with the super talented ladies in the Art With Heart Team. We thought it would be fun to share some fabulous ideas to inspire you from our brand new 2017-2018 annual catalogue, which is available 1st June. Be sure to request your copy of the catalogue today!

I have decided to use the new stamp set, Fabulous Flamingo, for my cards. I received it at the recent On Stage event in Perth as an All-Attendee giveaway. It's probably not one I would have purchased for myself, so I was very surprised to find that I quite enjoyed creating with it!

I had a lot of fun making this card. I stamped the flamingo first using the new In Colours, Berry Burst (stamped off once) and Powder Pink. The outlines are Early Espresso. I then fussy cut the flamingo.

The rest of the card was stamped using another new In Colour, Tranquil Tide, for the grass, Dapper Denim for the water and a mix of Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive and Garden Green for the palms. After I stamped each section, I lightly went over the images with my Aqua Painter. It gives a little 'halo' effect and extends the colours in a subtle way without blurring the image.

I'm not entirely sure what I'll use this card for, so I haven't stamped any sentiments for it just yet. It may just end up being one of those thinking of you cards.

While I had my Aquapainter out, I decided to have a go at another technique. This time I heat embossed the outline stamps of the flamingo and then brushed a wash of colour over the top using Berry Burst.

It's actually quite tricky to line up the two outline stamps when you're stamping with Versamark on Shimmery White cardstock! I think I did alright though. I used a fair bit of water for the colour wash, as I didn't want the Berry Burst to be too strong.

The base of the card was stamped using the palm fronds. It's fast becoming my favourite stamp in the set. A little slither of Gold Foil paper at each end of the flamingo panel, with Basic Black twine at the bottom, finished off the front nicely.

I had a small strip of the Gold Foil paper left, so it was perfect for finishing off the inside of my card. There's those palm fronds again too!

Well, that's it for me for this Blog Hop. I hope you were inspired by my cards. Next you're off to visit the blog of Ros Davidson, where you're bound to be inspired!
