Colour Creations: Pumpkin Pie

 Hi!

It's time for Pumpkin Pie! Sadly, not the food, but the colour. Well, maybe 'sadly' isn't the right word - the colour is a nice one, I'm just hungry as I'm writing the post! Anyway, enough with the rambling, on with the card.

I struggled a lot with the card this week, and the end result was vastly different to the card I had planned originally. The daisy was meant to be on a tone-on-tone Pumpkin Pie background, but it didn't look good and ended up in the bin. The striped DSP was an attempt to bring a bit more orange into the card.It kinda makes me think of tigers, though! I would totally have used Foxy Friends instead of the daisy if it was still current.

After I made the card I googled to see if tiger daisies were a thing - and they are! Phew! The daisy and the tiger stripes are a justifiable combination. LOL!!

I pulled out my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the daisy on the inside. Some things just can't be done on a Stamparatus!

Colour Creations: Pool Party

Welcome to a new Colour Creations Blog Hop, where we are featuring each of the colours in the Stampin' Up! range in alphabetical order. This week it's Pool Party week. A little ironic, as it's been cool and rainy all day here -definitely not pool party weather!

I was in the mood for a CAS card this week, so after perusing my stamp collection, I settled on Daisy Lane. It's been a while since I've used it, so it was well past time to brush off the dust.

I started by inking the circle using my Blending Brush and a mask made from copy paper and a circle die. The two daisies were stamped over the top and then a third, completely uncoloured daisy was stamped on some scrap card and popped up over the top.

I used the same techniques on the inside, but as you can see, with a stripe instead of a circle. Can you believe that I eye-balled stamping the sentiment? I was pretty impressed with how straight and even I was able to get it!

JAI #493: Just Choose Two

Welcome back to a new Just Add Ink challenge! This week Patrice has challenged us to Just Add Two to our creations. Which two? Any of these two:

Now, for some reason I became a little fixated on having felt on my card. I'm not quite sure why - maybe because, of the three, it's the one that I was least likely to have. Nothing like making it hard for myself! LOL! I was sure I had a felt Christmas ornament that SU retired a long time ago *somewhere* in my craft room. I never found it, but I did find some cheap sheets of felt in the kid's craft stash.

I trimmed some green felt and attached it to a piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock with TomBow glue. Before it dried, I ran it through my Big Shot with the Layered Leaves 3D Embossing Folder. I was quite impressed with how well it held the embossed design!

To finish the card, I layered a piece of vellum embossed with the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing folder with some of the Poppy Moments leaves and a Large Daisy. The second of my Two items is a button, the centre of the daisy. I used a Medium Classy Designer Button, which retired a while ago, and coloured it with my dark Pineapple Punch Stampin' Blend to change the colour from vanilla to yellow.

The inside was finished off with a So Saffron daisy and a sentiment from Varied Vases.

A Pocket Full Of Posy

Sob! We are finally at the last week of the Colour Creations Blog Share posts. It's been a fun year using each of the colours in Stampin' Up!'s range. I set myself the challenge to participate every week, and I met that challenge! Even when I was overseas I was able to play along, thanks to Catherine allowing me to give her links ahead of time and hoping they would work.

For our final week we are featuring Purple Posy, which is a soft purple that fits well with Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape. I wanted to go out with a bang, so I have made a super special card for you today.

I had the chance to watch a few crafting videos last week, and one was Jennifer McGuire's Layered Die Cut See-Through Cards. I was immediately keen to give the technique a try, and this was a great opportunity. LOL, it's a great way to use more of that Press'n'Seal that we all got in New Zealand too!

You basically die cut (or punch in my case) a heap of shapes and layer them so that they overlap quite a bit. Press'n'Seal holds it all in place while you trim it to size and then glue matching shapes on the back to keep it all in one piece. You can watch Jennifer's video to see how she completes the cards. I love the lacy look to the card, and how it's quite strong even though it looks delicate.

The inside of the card perfectly mirrors the front of the card, so that you can't see the Purple Posy circle or daisy from the front of the card. This card took several hours to complete, but it was well worth the time. I can't wait to try it again!

CTC #234: Pressed Petals DSP

Hello, and welcome to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge. As always, we are CASEing projects from the Stampin' Up! Catalogue, but this year we are trying some new twists on our challenges. Did you see Sandra's gorgeous project? If not, you will eventually, just keep hopping!

So the twist this week is to CASE the colours in the Pressed Petals DSP. There are a heap of colours to choose from, so it should be an easy task. The hardest part will be choosing which colours to use! If you don't have your catalogue handy, you can see them listed in the graphic above. I chose Mossy Meadow, Night Of Navy and the new Rococo Rose for my card.

I was in the mood for some watercolouring, so after stamping my stems in Mossy Meadow on some Shimmery White cardstock, I used my Aqua Painter and some fairly diluted Night Of Navy to create a background for the flowers. I am very much a rough watercolourer, so I'm not too fussy about getting the colour exactly around the stems. In fact, I deliberately stayed away so that I didn't accidentally pull some of the Mossy Meadow into the Night Of Navy.

The daisies were stamped in Rococo Rose and fussy cut before being popped up over the top using Dimensionals. I quite like this sweet little flower from the Daisy Lane set - it's a bit overlooked in the excitement of a the smaller daisy flower that coordinates with the new punch, I think!

I repeated the design on a smaller scale for the inside. Shimmery White is the perfect cardstock for this type of watercolouring, as it doesn't pill with the application of water. It's also a bit more cost effective than watercolour paper!

CTC #225: Easter

Welcome to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. I'm the start of the hop this week, which surprises me, as I'm usually not that organised!

This week we are celebrating Easter by CASEing our favourite Easter projects from either of the current catalogues, or you could take a non-Easter card and make an Easter version. Whatever you like! When flicking through for inspiration, this cute bunny card caught my eye.

It's from page 22 of the Occasions Catalogue, which shows how some products from the Occasions Catalogue tie back to some from the Annual Catalogue. That wasn't what intrigued me though, it was the stitched lines at the top and bottom of the card - can you see them? I decided to run with that, but also step it up a little.

I used the largest circle in the Stitched Shapes die set to cut the background. I started by lightly drawing some guidelines on the Highland Heather card and then cutting the middle circle. I left the circle in place and then cropped the two either side. I then adhered everything piece by piece onto a piece of Gorgeous Grape cardstock and mounted it on my Gorgeous Grape base.

How sweet are these daisies? They are from a new set from the upcoming Annual Catalogue called Daisy Lane. These are smaller than our current daisies and will have a punch to match. Sadly for me, I don't have the punch yet, as I had to fussy cut the six daisies I stamped and coloured with Blends. The leaves are also from the same stamp set.

I'd originally planned to make the daisies on the front with three layers, but I quite liked the look of just two. As I's already stamped and coloured six, it meant that I had two spare for the inside. Yay!  was very happy to discover that the new colour family DSP stacks have a gingham print, so very soon we will have gingham in all of our colours. Double yay!
