Getting Merry With Merlot

Welcome to the final Colour Creations Blog Share for 2018. We are having a little break over the Christmas/New Year period, but we'll be back on January 8 with the next colour in our series. It's one of my favourites!

This wee, though, we are looking at the new Neutral, Merry Merlot. It's not a colour I've used much of - probably because my old high school uniform was maroon. I finished high school 25 years ago, so you'd think I'd be over it by now but apparently not! I did enjoy using it on my card though, so maybe I'm on my way to liking maroon.

I tried and rejected all kinds of things until this card rose from the debris on my craft desk. Most of it was playing around with Stitched Rectangle dies, which are so much fun! I also used the new stamp set, Incredible Like You, available in January. Oh, and don't forget the Tin Tile 3DTIEF on the Sahara Sand layer - it's carrying over to the Occasions Catalogue, so we get it for at least a few more months. Yay!

I'm still deciding if I like the flowers from the stamp set. They are pretty, and I love the way the two layers work together, but I find the flower to be a bit 'floaty'. I anchored this one by adding a Mint Macaron twine bow to the base.

I used another flower and some more leaves on the inside. A couple of the leaves were stamped direct to the base cardstock and a few were fussy cut and layered underneath the flower. It adds a bit more dimension to the arrangement.

Beautifully Gorgeous Grape Bouquet

Welcome to the new Colour Creations Blog Share - and hooray for this new, fabulous purple, Gorgeous Grape. Stampin' Up! has been missing a purple like this from it's range for a while now, so Gorgeous Grape is a very welcome addition to the family.

For my card tonight, I decided to make a more classic card. I started with the striped section at the bottom. Can you guess which stamp set I used to create the stripes?

Did you guess Waterfront? Well done! I had intended to use the stamps on the rest of the card, but as I got to making the main panel I went in a completely different direction. Before I go that way, let's take a moment to admire the Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon. isn't it stunning?

It's hard to see in the photos, but the Whisper White panel on the base is embossed with the Tin Tile DTIEF. To make the main panel, I stamped the stems from Beautiful Bouquet in Granny Apple Green (next week's colour!), and then a few of the clusters of four petal flowers in Gorgeous Grape. I then adhered some die cuts of the coordinating flowers from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits using Mini Dimensionals. It adds just that little touch of dimension to the bouquet.

I used a similar process for the inside, except that I adhered the die cut flowers flat to the card. Hopefully you can see that I've also embossed the Gorgeous Grape card stock to match the front of the card.

JAI #428: Just Add Colour

Welcome to the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Rachael has given us a fresh, summery colour combination to work with.

Don't those colours just scream summer? Maybe I'm just doing a whole lotta wishful thinking!

I decided to go for a really simple, fresh card with just a touch of colour. I recently purchased the Varied Vases bundle and I wanted to play with it. I cheated a little by using Soft Suede for the flower stem/outline as I thought black might be a little too bold for the rest of the colours. I finished the three larger flowers with some tiny pearls.

It's tricky to see in the photo, but I embossed both of the white layers under the main panel. The bottom one uses the Tin Tile 3DTIEF, and the middle layer uses the Subtle 3DTIEF. It's a nice and simple way to add interest to the card without distracting from the main picture.

Because I liked the scene on the front so much I recreated it for the inside of the card. No point reinventing the wheel if I don't need to!

The Early Bird Catches The Espresso

Welcome to the new Colour Creations Blog Share.

This week we are all using Early Espresso on our cards. It's a rich brown that works fabulously as an alternative to Basic Black when you're wanting a dark neutral colour. It took me a little while to warm to Early Espresso when it first came out - I was a Chocolate Chip girl - but now it's a colour I use a lot.

For my card today I've paired it with Grapefruit Grove and Very Vanilla. I recently purchased the Botanical Tags Thinlits, and thought that they'd look great as a silhouette effect on my card.

It might be a little difficult to see, but I've painted the two birds and the word 'amazing' with a layer of Wink Of Stella. Can you see the new Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on my card? It's so pretty!

Again, it's difficult to see in the photo, but instead of using Very Vanilla cardstock on my card I've actually used a sheet of DSP from the Petal Promenade DSP pack. It's got a very subtle pattern that's perfect for stamping on. Can you see the swirls through the paper on the inside of my card? I also used it under the sentiments on the front of the card. It's a quick and easy way of creating a subtle effect on a card.
