JAI #437:Just Add I

Hi!

Welcome to the end of the week, the start of the weekend (yay!) and a new challenge!

This week at Just Add Ink it's one of my alphabet challenges. The letter up for duty this week is the letter I, which *really* got the Design Team thinking!

After a bit of thought, I decided I'd go with the Inlaid Die Cuts technique. Once you get your head around it, it's not tricky, just a bit time consuming. Here's my card, and then I'll explain!

It's called inlaid, because even with all of those die cuts (I think there were 8!), the card front is completely flat - nothing sticking out at all.

After cutting the card base in Wood Textures DSP, I then die cut it using the largest Layering Circle. I then cut the same. circle from Best Route DSP and inlaid the circle into the base, holding it in place with washi tape on the back. Next was the two straws (you work from the back of the design to the front), then the brown bottle, red label, green bottle, orange label, and finally the white 'celebrate'. Each time you replace the piece you cut from the design with a fresh piece that is held in place at the back with washi. The hardest part was the sentiment, as there are a whole lot of little bits that have to be stuck back down - all the little bits in the loops of each letter. I was a little frightened to do the celebrate in case I stuffed up all the work before it, but thankfully it worked!

I used the same technique on the inside to make the bottle. This time I just cut a bottle from DSP. On the front I cut them from Whisper White and brayered on the colour. The label on the inside bottle is the one I cut from the green bottle on the front. As it was one of the last layers it was one of the only useable pieces left!

You can see what the rest of the super imaginative Design Team have created over at the Just Add Ink blog. Pleas join in the fun - link up your "I" cards over there too.

Bye for now,

Tina

A Little More Smooshing

Hi!

OK, OK, one more smooshing card! This one was made as a class sample to try out the technique. I kept it simple - just one colour - so that my ladies could get the hang of the technique.

I ove the way that the background looks like it's got water splashed all over. It turned out much better than I'd hoped! I used Pacific Point ink as it's a nice mid-blue from our colour range.

I paired the Pacific Point with Night Of Navy, Daffodil Delight and Real Red for a more masculine feel to the card.

Have you tried smooshing yet? Surely I've inspired you with all of the fun cards I've made!

Bubble Over For A 50th Birthday

Hi!

Just after Christmas one of Rob's mates turned 50. An important birthday requires an important card, and Rob knew he was a home brewer of beer, so I decided to put the Bubble Over bundle to good use to make a beer themed card.

Can you tell which brand of beer inspired this card? LOL.

I die cut the two different sized labels from the Bottles and Bubbles Framelits set, and then added a punched star from a retired punch set. The largest labels and the bottle tops are both cut from Silver Foil paper.

The DSP I used on the front was repeated on the inside. The Real Red piece is from the Tutti Frutti pack and the Lemon Lime Twist piece is from the Sale-A-Bration pack called Bubbles and Fizz. It's the perfect accompaniment to the Bubble Over suite!

AWH November Blog Hop: Texture

Hi!

Tonight the Art with Heart team girls are sharing some creative projects by adding texture with embossing. Embossing can add a lovely dimension, and with our wonderful Stampin’ Up! products, we can create many different looks. These include Heat embossing using embossing powder, dry embossing using our textured folders or by adding embossing paste!

Just as I sat down to work on my project, my special preorder from the recent OnStage event arrived. I was very excited, as the box contained a new embossing paste. You will be able to purchase it when the Occasions Catalogue goes live in January, and trust me, you will want to purchase it!

Oooh, doesn't that Silver Embossing Paste look divine as a background? It has a different feel to our current Embossing Paste, but it's just as easy to apply to cardstock. The only real difference I have found is that it takes a little longer to dry.

Now, I mustn't forget the other big sneak peek on my card - the new Bubble Over bundle and DSP. The front of my card with the sponged bottles, was inspired by a card that Kathryn Ruddick made as a Display Stamper at OnStage using this bundle. Don't they look fab? The DSP is one of the upcoming Sale-A-Bration freebies that coordinates perfectly with the Bubble Over bundle.

How cute is this bubble stamp that Ive used on the inside of the card? Super cute is the answer!

Well, that's it from me. I hope you've been inspired! Next you're off to see the creativity of the lovely Leanne Mitchell.
