Colour Creations: Crumb Cake

It's that time of week again - the Colour Creations Showcase! This week we are featuring everyone's favourite Neutral, Crumb Cake. Well, It's certainly my favourite Neutral!

I've been toying with the idea of doing a sort of sepia toned card for a couple of months now, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to play.

I started by stamping the floral image from Bloom And Grow in Memento ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. I tried Crumb Cake ink, but I just couldn't get it to work. I then coloured the image with my Light and Dark Stampin' Blends. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with how well the Crumb Cake cardstock stood up to the colouring that I did with the markers. I then used my Chalk Marker to add some highlights to the berries and to outline the image so that it popped from the page. I wish I had the confidence to add some more highlights to the flowers with the Chalk Marker. A good excuse to play with the technique some more!

The Whisper White card base was stamped with the same floral image in stamped-off Crumb Cake. I then ran it through my Big Shot twice using the Subtle 3DEF, once in each direction. The main image was cropped using a die from the Ornate Layers Dies.

The sentiments on this card are both from the Blossoms In Bloom stamp set.

I had a lot of fun with the sepia effect. I think it would look great with larger floral images, like Ornate Style, or the large sunflower stamp (I forgot the name!). Hopefully I get a chance to try it out.

CTC #281: CASE The Punch Bundles

Is it just me, or did this weekend go by super quickly? I had a busy day yesterday, sewing the backing for a quilt for my son, Alex. It's all packed up, ready to go off to the quilter now. Today I decided to have a lovely relaxing day reading on the lounge. So relaxing, the I nearly forgot to write this blog post! I've started it with 40 minutes until it is due to go live. Oops!

This week the CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge are looking at the Punch Bundles section of the Annual Catalogue, which is on pages 168 and 169. I settled on this gorgeous floral card fro the bottom of page 169.

My friend, Rachel Palmieri has made a few cards lately with the Bloom and Grow bundle, which had me itching to pay with mine again. This was the perfect opportunity.

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base, and used my paper trimmer to score two lines at the top and bottom of the card. I then used a blending brush to apply some Pool Party ink to the space in between, but only in the centre, under where the flowers were going to sit.

The flowers were colour with Stampin' Blends, but just straight colouring. I wasn't in the mood for fancy blending, so I didn't! I used Purple Posy, Petal Pink, Highland Heather, Pear Pizzaz and So Saffron, and then went around the edge with Pool Party. I went for softer colours than I usually use, but I really liked how it turned out. A bit of Champagne Foil and some Champagne Rhinestones finished off the front.

I stamped and coloured the inside of the card at the same time as I coloured the front. I realised about half way through that the alcohol ink would probably show through to the back. Thankfully my decision to use straight colours rather than blending meant that the ink didn't bleed though. Phew!

JAI #494: Just Add Colour

Thanks for joining me for a new week of Just Add Ink. This week Di has given us a soft, beautiful palette to work with.

Aren't they pretty? They immediately spoke 'baby card' to me, but with no babies on my horizon, and a distinct lack of time this week, I went super quick and simple, and made what could be a masculine card.

I copied the idea of the stripes from another demo, who had used her Stampin' Blends to colour the white stripes on her Golden Honey DSP. She used a rather bold colour combo, but I think this one works well too. I used my Dark Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam marker, with my Light Smokey Slate. It was very quick and easy to colour each stripe.

Because I was aiming for a masculine look, I kept the sentiment simple. I loved this big greeting from Bloom and Grow. The non-fussy font filled the Stitched So Sweetly die cut perfectly. To give it a little more oomph, I cut a Stitched Rectangle in Soft Sea Foam and snipped it to just show in the corners of the main shape. A subtle effect, but I quite like it!

The inside is just another scrap of the Golden Honey DSP coloured to match the front. The sentiment comes from Music From The Heart.

JAI #479: Just Add Colour

Hooray, it's Friday, so it's time for the newJust Add Ink challenge. This week Jackie has given us an unusual colour combination to work with.

I say unusual, because I wouldn't usually pair those shades of blue and green. I'm happy to say though, that they work together nicely!

I decided to focus mostly on Coastal Cabana, with just a few Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White highlights. I started by heat embossing the sprays from Bloom and Grow using Copper Embossing Powder. I bent the stamp a little before I stamped so that it would fit around the oval better. It's very hard to see, but there is a vellum oval, dry embossed with the Pinewood Planks folder under the flowers and sentiment! The flowers were then watercoloured. I started with the middle flower, and worked my way out, diluting the ink more for each flower.

The sentiment is from Uniquely Creative, and it's called Sweet Sentiments Builder. I love that some of the words in the set have matching dies - it makes my life a little easier! I layered everything onto a base of Coastal Cabana DSP from the Follow Your Art pack. I wanted something with a bit of variation in the colour, not just a flat piece of blue.

The inside was stamped and coloured the same way as the front. I often use Shimmery White cardstock when I am watercolouring, as it's more cost effective than watercolour paper and it handles the water very well.

CTC #244: Holiday Catalogue Cover

Hello! It's time once again for the CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. You may have come from Monique's blog, or you may be starting here. Either way, just keep touring the blogs until you get back to where you started.

This week we are CASEing projects from the front of the Holiday Catalogue. My eye was particularly taken by the wreath card in the Toile Tidings grouping of cards, so that's what I CASEd.

I don't actually have any of the products in that suite, so I had to search my stamp collection for something that would work in place of the wreath. Bloom and Grow fit the bill! I changed the circle to an oval to better suit the flowers, so I switched the orientation of the card too. The flowers were stamped and then I added a few extra of the smaller spray stamps at each end to fill the gaps. I coloured the little circle buds yellow to look a bit like wattle. I wanted to add a little Australian feel to the card.

The Merry die cut was cut four times and stacked. The top is cut in Red Foil and the bottom three layers in Call Me Clover to match the card base. It's a cool effect that looks so much more effective in real life.

I stamped the flowers again on the inside. I'd curved the stamp a little for the front of the card to go around the oval, but I straightened it for the inside.
