CTC 373: CASE An Embossing Project

 Hi!

Welcome back to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. Usually, I'd comment on how it's a great way to finish off the weekend, but as it's a long weekend here, there's an extra day to go. Woo hoo!

This week we are asking to to CASE an Embossing Project. It can be any type of embossing (wet, dry, paste) from either of the current catalogues. Flipping through the mini, I found this card to CASE. I think it's really eye catching, how the flowers radiate away from a central point.

You may not have even realised that it's an embossed card - I only worked it out because there is a pot of embossing powder and a heat gun in the photo! When I looked closer, I realised that the flowers are heat embossed using white powder on coloured cardstock. I took a slightly different approach because I wanted two colours, not a colour and white.

I started by stamping my new Rays Of Light background stamp onto Whisper White cardstock using Versamark ink. I had an old pot of Pool Party Embossing Powder, so I used that to heat emboss my card. If you don't have coloured powder, you could stamp the image in Pool Party ink and use Clear powder over the top. I then used a Blending Brush to apply So Saffron ink to the embossed card. I added extra ink to the sun and the outer edges to give the sun a bit of a light halo.

I thought that the cloud shapes were a great addition over the top of the sun rays. The smaller ones are from the retired Wiggly Bugs Dies, and the sentiment is from Under My Umbrella, which is also retired.

I used the offcuts from the front of the card to finish off the inside of my card. It makes it look very fancy!

Bron's Birthday Blog Hop - May

 Hi!

I'm once again celebrating Bron Eastley's 60th Birthday with another blog hop. This month we are going back to the 60's for a retro themed hop. I did not make my appearance into this world until the mid-70's, so I had to think hard about what I could make. In the end I turned to the movies, and discovered that a childhood favourite was made in the 60's - 1964, to be exact.

The image I used is called British Nanny, from Scrappy Boy Stamps. I got it as a freebie in last year's Kit and Clowder Advent Calendar. I coloured her with my Copics, and then popped her up over my background. I'm not sure about the sentiment yet - I may end up changing it.

It was tricky to get a decent photo of the background, but it was the Coastal Cabana Foil from the Blues Foil pack from Stampin' Up!. I embossed it using Altenew's Cloudy Day 3D Embossing Folder. Hopefully it looks like she's floating around in the sky!

The retired SU set, Under My Umbrella was a great choice for the inside of my card. No sentiment yet - I'll add something when I make up my mind about the sentiment on the front of the card!

Colour Creations: Rich Razzleberry

Thanks for once again joining me for the new Colour Creations Creative Showcase. This week it's Rich Razzleberry's turn. Razzleberry was one of a trio of In Colours (alongside Melon Mambo and Soft Suede) that was released mid way through a catalogue year, with the goal of bringing the South Pacific market into line with the North American market. I was thrilled when it later returned as a core colour, as it's a gorgeous, rich purple,

For this week's card I pulled out three products that I love, but haven't played with much lately - Under My Umbrella bundle, Ornate Layers Dies and my Watercolour Pencils. The focal images were stamped in Memento ink and then coloured with my Rich Razzleberry Watercolour pencil. I used my usual Wink Of Stella to blend the colour rather than water. I find I have much more control over the colour this way.

My background was stamped using the two smallest flower clusters. I popped both onto one block and away I went until the Whisper White cardstock was covered. I then embossed it with my Subtle 3DEF folder, to give the effect of fabric. I was hoping that this photo would capture the sparkly boots, etc, but it was a dull day here in Adelaide, with no sun to help show the shimmer. Oh well, you'll just have to imagine it!

I used an offcut of Rich Razzleberry card and the same Ornate Layers Die as on the front to crop a little feature piece for the bottom of the writing panel. I think that it looks quite pretty!

AWH December Creative Showcase: Summer

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the final Creative Showcase for 2020. Rachel has chosen a Summer theme for our projects tonight. For a lot of people, Summer means lazing on a beach, so that't what I decided to do for my card tonight. I've used a mix of Stampin' Blends, ink blending and stamping on my card.

I started this card by stamping my umbrella in stamped-off Soft Sea Foam. I then used a pencil to lightly draw in my lines for the beach, island and horizon. Then I got to the fun part - colouring! The beach was coloured with my Light Crumb Cake and So Saffron Blends. I stamped the shadow and the dotty stamp from Waterfront over the top with Crumb Cake Ink. The island was coloured with my Crumb Cake Blends, and the palm trees were stamped with Early Espresso and Garden Green, with the shadow in Crumb Cake. The umbrella, from Under My Umbrella, was coloured with Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight Blends with a Dark Smoky Slate pole. The sky was coloured using my Blending Brush with Balmy Blue and Misty Moonlight inks.

Finally, the ocean was coloured with lots of Blends. The horizon was drawn with my Light Night Of Navy Blend, and then a small section underneath was coloured with my Light Bermuda Bay Blend. The rest of the ocean was coloured with my Balmy Blue Blends. I finished it off by using my scoring tip to dot some Frost White Shimmer Paint to create some foamy water. I then stamped a few birds and a sentiment from Beautiful Moments.

On the inside I used the Waterfront stamp set to create a little scene that matches the one on the front.

Colour Creations: Mint Macaron

Welcome back to the new Colour Creations Creative Showcase - isn't that a mouthful to say?! This week we are working with one of my all-time favourite Stampin' Up! colours, Mint Macaron. It was originally an In Colour, and I was very excited to see it back in the line up after a colour refresh. It's a lovely, dusky mid green.

I pulled out the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set to play with tonight for no other reason than it's been a while since I've played with it. In fact, I'd never used the small sunflower stamp before! I stamped is all over my Mint Macaron cardstock with the matching ink. I'd pre-cut cut the cardstock using the largest Stitched Rectangles Die, and after I'd finished stamping I ran it through my Big Shot twice using the Subtle folder, once in each direction. I love that it gives the cardstock a fabric-like look.

The large sunflower was cut from Silver Foil card. I'd originally intended to just use the outline, but when I pulled it from the die, all the pieces stayed in place. I quickly cut the coordinating solid shape from Mint cardstock and glued it to the back, making sure I got a dot of glue on all of the tiny pieces. I was quite pleased with how it turned out, even if it wasn't what I'd intended! I tucked a few die cut leaves underneath, just to finish it off.

I stamped that cute little sunflower image again on the inside, along with a sentiment from Under My Umbrella. My card base was one of the retired Silver Foil cards, as it has that lovely Silver Foil border to match the foil sunflower.

JAI #528: Just Choose Two

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week our Birthday Girl, Jan, has set the challenge, which is to Just Choose Two of Sequins, Ribbon or Metallic Foil. What does that mean? You just choose at least two of the listed items to add to your card - easy!

I was initially going to choose sequins and foil, but my card led me in a different direction.

I started with the background DSP, which is from a retired pack called Shine On SDSP. The silver foil raindrops pair perfectly with Under My Umbrella, don't you think? The ribbon I selected is also retired, but only last year. It's the Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon.

The images from Under My Umbrella were stamped with Memento ink and coloured with my Blends. I used the Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather and Flirty Flamingo combos.

I coloured some extra images to use on the inside. I haven't ever done the 'upside down umbrella with flowers inside' before, so this was the perfect time. It's a bit cute!

CTC #275: CASE A Sketch

Hi!

Woo Hoo for Sunday, and tomorrow being school holidays! My kids are old enough to entertain themselves a lot of the time, which means more crafting time for me. My biggest goal is to complete the back of the quilt I'm making for Mr 17 so that I can finally send it off to be quilted.

Tonight though, I have some papercrafting for you. This week the CASEing The Catty Crew are all CASEing a sketch, based on a card from page 130 of the Annual Catalogue. I quite like this sketch - there's lots of room for interpretation.

I have had my Stitched Stars on my mind, ever since playing with them for last week's CTC card. I decided to play to see if I could use the stars to make the shape of a sun. What do you think?

I cropped three of the third largest stars from Daffodil Delight cardstock and then adhered them together, finishing with the smallest Stitched Shapes Circle. I think it makes a fabulous sun! The sentiment is from Under My Umbrella. I used some washi to mask off parts of the sentiment so that I could get it they way I wanted it - the stamp has the 'hello' on top of the 'sunshine'. I used a scattering of sequins to help hide the adhesive under the vellum layer. It's a great trick!

Did you notice the sponged clouds? I watched a video several months ago, in which Paula Dobson showed how to create the clouds. I used the retired Rainbow Builder Dies to create a mask from a piece of Window Sheet. I then just laid the sheet over the Whisper White cardstock and used a blending brush to add a little Balmy Blue ink along the edge of the mask. I repeated this down the length of the card. Such a cool effect, I will certainly be trying this again!

I used the same sponging technique again on the inside of the card to go with the second sun. One tip for the cloud mask - flip it over to get a different cloud line - just make sure you wipe off any remaining ink first!

Colour Creations: Bermuda Bay

Hi!

Thanks for join gin me once again for the Colour Creations Showcase. This is Week Three, and we are all looking at the gorgeous Bermuda Bay. I decided to pair it with the Under My Umbrella bundle.

I started by making the background for my umbrella. I used a sponge brayer to ink some Whisper White card, and then splattered some fine drops of water over the top. I also splattered some Frost White Shimmer Paint. I love the combined effect of the two together. I used my Stitched Rectangles Dies to crop the panel, and to create a frame to go around it. I popped up the frame using Adhesive Strips.

The umbrella was coloured using my Bermuda Bay Blends and a no-line colouring technique. The sentiment was heat embossed using white embossing powder.

When I made the background for the front of the card, I made a full sized card front. Instead of wasting the offcut, I cropped it again with the largest Stitched Rectangle Die and used it for the inside. It's way too pretty to throw out!

CTC #260 Week 1: January July Mini Catalogue

Welcome to the first CASEing the Catty Blog Hop for 2020! I can't believe we are writing 2020 already! The blog before mine is the fabulous Angela's, but we are all linked in a circle, so just keep going until you get back to where you started.

This week we are CASEing projects from the new January-June Mini Catalogue. This year we are trying something new - each challenge will run for two weeks, not one. We will still have a blog hop each week, so there will be double the inspiration for each challenge. Yay!

I liked the layout and die cut elements on this card from page 19. I chose to use the new Under My Umbrella stamp set though. It's a cute line art set, perfect for colouring.

How sweet are the boots and umbrella? I coloured the images with my Stamping' Blends, in Seaside Spray, Rococo Rose, Purple Posy, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake and Call Me Clover. I had a lot of fun practicing to get a rounded look on the boots and umbrella. Do you think I succeeded?

The background was created with a die from the Poppy Moments Dies. I like that it cuts windows in the shape of a bunch of poppies in the card. I backed it with some Seaside Spray DSP from the In Colour pack. The label and tag dies are from the Painted Labels and Ornate Frames Dies. A few sequins finished off the front.

The inside sentiment is from the new Peaceful Moments stamp set, with another spray of flowers from Under My Umbrella. They are such cute flowers!
