JAI 691: Just Add Inspiration

Welcome to a new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have an Inspiration Challenge for you, suggested to us by Kerry.

I love all of the moody blues in the collage, and my eye was drawn by the mandala-like circle on the left. Being the bookworm that I am, I also noticed that two of the images had books in them. There is so much to take from this image!

I delved into my retired papers for the basis of my card. The DSP is from the Waves Of The Ocean DSP. I chose a section of the paper that had a lot of dark blue, but also had touches of Coastal Cabana at the top. The white layer over the top was from my Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Paper pack. I popped it all over a Coastal Cabana Card base.

The stamped sentiment is from a Uniquely Creative stamp set, called Read Past Your Bedtime. Great advice, BTW, LOL! I paired it with some die cuts made using my Waffleflower Layered Books Dies.

The stamped sentiment on the inside is from a Three Room Studio stamp set, called One More Chapter. I also used offcuts from the DSP and laser cut paper from the front to decorate the insert. One final book, and the card was finished.

CTC #213: Floral Romance

Welcome back to CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge and Blog Hop.

Being a blog hop, all the blogs are linked in a loop, so you just keep hopping until you get back to where you started. The blog before mine was the lovely Elizabeth Gross. You may have started here, there, or anywhere on the hop - it really doesn't matter - but do make sure you see everyone's creations as they are always fabulous.

This week we are CASEing the Floral Romance section of the Occasions Catalogue. I'd sort of skipped over that section when I first looked at the catalogue, as I'm not big on Valentines and I don't make a lot of wedding cards. I realised what I was missing when I was made to look for this challenge. So many gorgeous things!

For the challenge, I settled on this pretty gift box. I don't have any of the product, but that's not really the point of CASEing. You don't have to copy exactly! Having said that, I did copy fairly closely, but I used alternate products.

My first thought when looking at this box was that I don't have the die used on the background. A quick flick through my Annual Catalogue reminded me that there was a similar piece in the Delightfully Detailed SDSP. I layered it over the top of some of the soft pink paper in the Petal Promenade DSP and then mounted it on some Smokey Slate cardstock that I'd run through the Big Shot with the Subtle 3DTIEF.

The main floral panel is also from the Petal Promenade DSP, cropped with a Stitched Oval Framelit. The leaves were cut using the Flourish Thinlits leaf from Mint Macaron and Soft Sea Foam cardstock. I love how the soft grey, pink and green work together!

I used a second piece of the Delightfully Detailed SDSP to create the border piece along the side of the inside. Silly me used the Very Vanilla side rather than the Whisper White side. Oh well, most people wouldn't even notice that! The hearts, like the vellum heart on the front, are cropped using the Support Ribbon dies.

Swiping Mango

Wowee, these weeks are wizzing by so fast! Here it is, Tuesday again, and time for the new Colour Creations Blog Share.

We are up to the M's this week - more specifically Mango Melody. What perfect timing, just as summer and the mango season begins! Yum, I love a good, juicy mango!

Today's card features a technique that was showcased at OnStage in Orlando. It's not a new technique, but sometimes it's fun to revisit old favourites. The technique is ink pad swiping, where you turn an ink pad upside down and swipe it over your cardstock. The base of tonight's card was actually my second attempt, as the cardstock slipped the first time and I ended up with seriously wobbly lines! Not a bad look, just not the look I was after. Anyway, it's a fun technique that looks different every time you do it.

I then took one of the large pieces of the Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut DSP and snipped a few flowers from it. I chose three of the five pointed flowers so that I could layer them. The largest one was coloured Mango Melody with a sponge brayer, and I left the medium one white. The flower centre is a clear epoxy droplet that I coloured with my Dark Mango Melody Blend.

I ended up using the smallest flower on the inside of my card. I'd intended it to go on the front, but it got a bit lost among the other two. Instead, it's now the star of the inside!

Flirting With Flamingo

Welcome to the new Colour Creations Blog Share! This week we are creating with Flirty Flamingo.

Despite my blog post title, there are no flamingo on my card tonight. Instead I made a flirty card. 'What's a flirty card?', I hear you ask - to me it's a fun, light and airy card that isn't too serious. That's what I was aiming for with this card, and I think I've succeeded.

I started by snipping a piece from the gorgeous Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut DSp. It's from the big floral sheet. I took a really big breath before snipping - it's a bit scary!! I then used my sponge brayer to colour it with Flirty Flamingo ink

I paired the Flirty Flamingo with Soft Sea Foam. It's hard to see in the pic, but the large SSF layer under the flower is embossed with the Subtle 3DTIEF. The flower is then layered on a circle of Vellum, and on top are some cardstock circles with the sentiment from Happy Birthday Gorgeous.

Speaking of Happy Birthday Gorgeous - have you noticed that the larger two leaf stamps match the leaves in the Delightfully Detailed LCDSP? What a great find, as it helped to extend the smaller floral section I snipped from the DSP.

JAI #418: Just Add Colour

Yes, it's Just Add Ink challenge day! This week Jo has given us a very pretty colour combination to work with.

What a coincidence for me to have two projects requiring Blushing Bride in one week! Tuesday I showed you some brayering I'd done with Blushing Bride ink and the Delightfully Detailed SDSP. You can see that post here. Today I'm using the other piece of cardstock that I produced.

There's something about white lace that says wedding to me, so that's where I went with the card. It was pretty quick and easy to cut and assemble the bouquet. Unfortunately my photo doesn't show the Daffodil Delight blooms very well - they are much softer than the photo makes them look.

This was my first time playing with the new Soft Sea Foam colour. It's such a lovely green, and a perfect accompaniment to Blushing Bride. I can see myself using it lots!

On the inside I stamped one of the flower stamps from Beautiful Bouquet multiple times across the bottom using Blushing Bride ink and then brayered some Blushing Bride ink over the top to soften the look. I love how it turned out!

A Delightful Blushing Bride

It's Tuesday evening, which means it's time for the new Colour Creations Blog Share. Are you enjoying our trip through the Stampin' Up! colour collection? I am!

This week the focus colour is Blushing Bride. It's such a lovely, dusky soft pink. A soft colour needs a soft paper, so I decided to use some of my Delightfully Detailed SDSP. The oval piece was perfect for my plans. I wanted the main panel of my card to be Blushing Bride, so I decided to brayer some ink over the paper. To stretch the paper even further, I cut a piece of Whisper White the same size as the oval panel and layered the two pieces before I brayered. The result was two pieces with an oval feature in Blushing Bride. You can see what I do with the second piece on Friday.

For today's card I used the DSP piece. I love Blushing Bride paired with Early Espresso, don't you? And even better with a piece of the dark Wood Textures DSP!

I pulled out my Animal Outing Stamp set and stamped the Kangaroo on some Watercolour paper. I coloured her with my Aqua Painter using the following inks: Crumb Cake (Kangaroo), Early Espresso (Kangaroo shading), Grey Granite (Koala), Blushing Bride (Kangaroo chest, ears and nose, and koala nose), Pear Pizzazz (grass) and Balmy Blue (sky).

How adorable is that banner? I used my Pick A Pennant stamp set to make it. I don't have the matching dies, but it was easy enough to trim around the banner. I snipped up between each section of the banner so that I could curve it a little more across my card. Don't you love the rustic texture the wood paper adds to the background? It's such a sweet contrast against the lacy paper.

I added and coloured another Kangaroo on the inside using my Aquapainter and inkpads. It's just on Whisper White this time, so it's never as good a result as when I used Watercolour paper, but it's good enough. And look - I managed to stamp the 'Little One' stamp correctly first time! LOL

JAI #405: Just Add Inspiration

Yay for Friday!

It's time for the newJust Add Ink challenge, and it's an Inspiration Photo provided by Kelly.

Could you imagine waking up in that bedroom? I imagine it to be out in the country somewhere, and that you'd wake up to the sounds of nature all around. The natural place to start with my card was the Wood Textures DSP. How exciting to know that it will be carrying over to the upcoming Annual Catalogue. I'm so happy about this, as I felt I hadn't used enough this catalogue.

One of the things I came home from On Stage with was a pack of the new Delightfully Detailed Laser Cut Specialty Paper. It's absolutely stunning - a real must have from the new catalogue. One sheet has card front sized designs, and I used one of them on this card to soften all of the wood.

I wanted to add some more colour to the card, so I took my collection of circle punches and added some circles in Pool Party, Night Of Navy and Gold to match the colours used elsewhere.

I stamped Stylised Birthday on the inside, and finished it off with another strip of the Delightfully Detailed paper. Stylised Birthday is retiring at the end of May. Do you have yours? It's a great stamp that works well for any type of birthday card.
