JAI #354: Just Add Inspiration

Hi!


As you read this, I'm probably in Perth attending the Stampin' Up! On Stage event. It's a fabulous day of stamping, sneak peeks, and best of all, catching u with some of my stamping friends. I've never been to Perth before, so I jumped at the chance to go.

While I'm away, you can get cracking on the new Just Add Ink Challenge. This week Trish is inspiring us with this gorgeous tea cup image.

I do love my tea, so this challenge was right up my alley! I decided to use the retired stamp set, A Nice Cuppa, to create a free standing pop-up card. I followed this tutorial.

Coincidentally, the colours in the retired Have A Cuppa DSP were very similar to the colours in the tea cup in the inspiration photo, so I decided to drag them out of retirement too.

The pop up card is actually quite easy to make, and the best part of all is that it folds down nice and flat so that it is easy to post.

What inspires you in the photo? I hope to see what you create over at Just Add Ink. In the meantime, I'll be back when I get home from Perth!

JAI #314: Just Add Inspiration

As always, Friday at Just Add Ink is new challenge time!

This week Di has picked a gorgeous citrus image for our inspiration. The colours in the pic are fabulous, so that's where I decided to go with my card.

This little cutie has been sitting on my desk for a week or so, waiting for the right card. I think she's a LaLa Land stamp, and I coloured her with a mix of Copics and Blendabilities.

Her dress is a bit more vibrant than it appears in this photo - I just couldn't get Photoshop to get the colour accurate without distorting the other colours.

You can see that I used the retired Have A Cuppa DSP on my background as a nod to the citrus in the photo. Don't you just love it when you have the perfect piece of DSP in your stash?

LOL, I'm not sure why I put a balloon on the inside, as there aren't any balloons on the front. It just seemed appropriate for a birthday card!

A Nice Cuppa CASE

The Have A Cuppa bundle can be found in the Occasions Catalogue. It was one I fell in love with instantly, as I'm a big tea drinker, as are quite a few of my friends. My first cup of tea was loose leaf, made in a teapot and sipped from one of my Grandmother's gorgeous tea cups. I had good company that day - two of my sisters and my aunt - so it's a lovely memory for me.


Anyway, I digress! Today's card is a CASE of one by Teneale Williams. She used the Tap, Tap, Tap stamp set, which is also retiring with the Have A Cuppa Bundle.

This card was made as a sample for a card class. Some of the ladies made some variations, including stamping 'coffee' instead of 'tea', and even stamping the sentiment in the bottom right hand corner of the card. I really enjoy seeing the variations they come up with!

When I first made the card I didn't use the Basic Black layer on the main panel, but when I went to put the card together it didn't look quite right, so I ended up adding it. The black adds a little definition to the main panel.

And of course, you can't have tea without cake!

A Nice Cuppa CASE

Hi!

Today's card is a CASE of this card by Patsy Waggoner.

I loved Patsy's card, but as this was for a class, I also wanted to showcase the coordinating Have A Cuppa DSP Stack. Hence, I changed all the colours to suit the DSP, but kept most of the layout elements the same as Patsy's card.

Here's I've use Bermuda Bay, Wisteria Wonder and Melon Mambo on Whisper White. The sentiment is from Sky Is The Limit, which retired from the SAB line up on Monday.

I finished my card off with another teacup on the inside.  I like the way the DSP heart ties it in with the front of the card, plus it's just a bit cute.

A Nice Cuppa

I was able to get a bit of unexpected crafting time in yesterday while hubby made dinner, and today's card is the result.  I wanted to have a play with the new Have a Cuppa suite of products.  I'm a big tea drinker, so this suite really appealed to me.

I don't make a lot of single layer cards - probably because they nearly always seem unfinished to me. I do like this card though. It took a lot of playing around to get it to look right, but I'm fairly satisfied with the final product. The colours (Melon Mambo, Wisteria Wonder and Bermuda Bay) were taken from the coordinating Have A Cuppa DSP. You can see a bit of it peeking out from under the teapot.

The teapot was originally just the pot and lid, but it looked a little plain.  I die cut some scallop trim and adhered it to the pot using my Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  It still wasn't quite enough, so I grabbed my Clear Wink Of Stella Glitter Brush and added highlights to the scallops and lid.  Much better!

Isn't that curl of steam so cute? Love it!
