JAI 647: Just Add A Sketch

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. I've been a bit MIA lately - I was struck down with COVID and needed the time to rest and recover. This was my second go-around with it, but thankfully this time was milder than last. Having said that, it still took a lot out of me.

This week we have a fabulous sketch for you, designed by Di. I really love the layering under the sentiment, and how the layers are all offset. I needed a card for a nephew turning 17, so I pulled out some retired products from my stash.

You'll also notice that I turned the sketch on it's side - it suited the car better to be this way. I felt that this left too much white space to the left, so I added the banner and key charm for a bit of balance. I think it worked well.

The paper is all from the Classic Garage pack. The muscle car was fussy cut from one of the sheets, and scraps of DSP were used for the layering under the sentiment. I typed the sentiment on my old typewriter and cropped with a punch. The typewriter was a fabulous op-shop find, and was only $5!!

I used a few scraps of DSP to decorate the inside of my card, and the Alphabet A La Mode dies to add the 17. Hooray that these dies are carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue.

JAI 591: Just Add A Sketch

Yay, it's time for the new Just Add Ink challenge!

How fun is this sketch that Narelle has designed for our inspiration? There's lots of scope for you to play with - your imagination is the limit!

One of my nephews turned 16 recently, and I know he was keen to get his Learner's Permit, so I decided to make a suitable card for him. The classic car is from a retired SU DSP pack, called Classic Garage. The shape of these muscle cars is so cool, and hopefully liked by a 16 year old boy.

The car and the numerals were both popped up from the card base. The sentiments on the front were both from a retired Kindred Stamps set, called Electrifying.

I can't bear to waste the partial cars that are on the edge of the DSP, so I chose one to use on the inside of my card. It looked a bit plain without the DSP circle behind it, but then the circle was too empty at the top, so the sentiment was added over the top.

CTC #241: CASE A Layout

Welcome to this week's CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. You may be starting here, or have come from Siobhan's blog, either way, just keep hopping until you get back to where you started.

The week the Design team are challenging you to CASE one of the card layouts from page 101 of the Annual Catalogue. There are four to choose from - which one catches your eye?

Mine was caught by the cute foxy card at the top left, in particular the stitching around the aperture. It's such a lovely design feature.

As much as I'd love one of everything in the catalogue, I don't have any of the dies or stamps used to create that card, so I had to get creative!

I recently purchased the Sweetly Swirled stamp set, and it came to mind as I was pondering how to replicate the stitching. I heat embossed the largest circular swirl using Sliver embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock. I then cut away the inner piece to make a window.

At this stage my card was looking very masculine, and so I decided to cut some cogs from Copper Foil to line the inside of the opening. I then fussy cut a muscle car from the retired Classic Garage DSP in place of the sweet foxes. I also used some Tranquil Tide DSP to layer under the Basic Black. I like how if frames the card and gives a little relief from all of the black.

I had some left over cogs in both Silver and Copper, so I used them on the inside rather than toss them. I had originally intended to used the Silver cogs on the front as an extra layer in the aperture, but it looked too fussy. Not great on a masculine card!

Tranquil Dreams

Sob! It's officially the last Colour Creations Blog Share! I think we've managed to convince Catherine to keep going for the 5 new In Colours, so you may well see us back next Tuesday night though! In the meantime, this week we are stamping with Tranquil Tide. It's a lovely, deep earthy green that I've come to love.

Once again, I made a pair of cards using punched shapes and the Floating Frames technique. I used a sheet of Tranquil Tide DSP from the Classic Garage DSP pack and a retired arrow punch for my shapes. Apologies for using a retired punch, but it was just so perfect for the theme of my card that I couldn't resist!

The dreams sentiment is from the Follow Your Dreams stamp set, and the rays are from a soon to retire Hostess set called Here Comes The Sun. I think they work pretty well together, along with the arrows.

Here Comes The Sun also had the perfect sentiment for the inside of the card too! I think I'll give this card to Ada, as she's dancing in a charity performance on Saturday night.

Now, I know I said a pair of cards, and I've only shown you one. Silly me grabbed Shaded Spruce cardstock instead of Tranquil Tide for the other card, and I was too far gone with it before I realised. Oops! I will have to show you that one another time.

JAI #452: Just Add A Sketch

Welcome to the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week it's a sketch challenged designed by me! This was a fun sketch to design, and I think it can be interpreted so many ways - don't just stick to circles, any shape is fine!

I think I designed this before Christmas and I had snowflakes in my head instead of circles. In the end, I used a mix of Pokeballs and stars.

I made this card for my oldest child, Alex, who is turning 16 (gulp!) in a few days. He's mad on Pokemon Go, and the Pokeballs are a big part of the game. The Crushed Curry DSP is from the Classic Garage DSP Pack, I loved the subtle grungy pattern in it.

To make the Pokeballs I punched 1 1/4 inch circles in Whisper White and Real Red, then snipped the red ones in half. I added a thin strip of Basic Black to the back of the red and then adhered the whole lot to the white. To get the little circles, I used a 1/4 inch circle punch and then punched a 1/2 inch circle over the opening to create a black 'donut'. I then adhered it over the top of a 1/2 inch white circle and then glued that to the larger circle. Done!

The numbers 16 were done in a similar way to the larger part of the Pokeball. The hardest part was lining up the black strip!

I made a fourth Pokeball for the inside of the card too - why not when I'm already making three? LOL. I hope Alex loves his card, I know I had fun making it.

Gettin' Real, Red.

It's time for a new Colour Creations Blog Share. We are up to the R's this week - starting with Real Red. I'm a bit of a red fan, so I enjoyed pulling out some Real Red things and getting inky this week. Not that I don't enjoy getting inky anytime, it's just, as I'm sure you'll agree, some colours are way easier than others to get inspired by!

My first stop is usually to check what DSP has the feature colour, and this week I chose the Classic Garage DSP. I don't have any of the other coordinating products, but it's easy enough to make a great card if you don't mind a bit of fussy cutting.

I started by dusting off my long retired Stampin' Spritzer and using it to splatter some Basic Black ink over the Real Red DSP. I then layered some fussy cut cogs, dials and car over the top. I also added a strip of the road sign pattern as an anchor for all the other 'bits'. The 'For You' is from Jar Of Love on Very Vanilla cardstock, but it looked too clean compared to the rest, so it got the spritzer treatment too!

While I had the spritzer out, I also added some splatters to the inside. Another strip of the Real Red DSP and I was nearly done. The car was fussy cut from the DSP, but I used a car that was along the edge of the paper. I didn't want the whole car, so why waste a whole one when I could use a partial car?

CTC #215: How Sweet It Is

Time for the new CASEing The Catty blog hop! I do love these hops - don't you? Hop, hop, hopping around in a circle until you get back to where you started, seeing lots of yummy Stampin' Up! inspiration as you go. What could be better? Did you come from the lovely Kelly's blog, or start here at mine? Doesn't matter, just keep on clicking!

This week we are CASEing the projects from the How Sweet It Is section of the Occasions Catalogue, which runs from pages 14 to 23. Lots of pages in which to find a project, technique or idea to CASE. What will you choose?

I didn't go any further than the first page of the section. I didn't CASE a card, this time I used a technique on several different cards. Have you noticed the Sweet Pins and Tags in the catalogue on page 15? What are you waiting for, they are sooo much fun! Look at the two front jars and the bag of yellow lollies. They come in three different shapes, each white with an iridescent border. Here comes the fun part - you can colour them! I pulled out my sponge brayer and went to town!

I chose the medallion shaped tag and coloured it with Tranquil Tide ink using my sponge brayer. When I had the colour I wanted I took a piece of towel and wiped over the iridescent border to remove any excess ink. Then I was set to decorate! The tags on page 14 are layered with strips of ribbon, DSP and stamped images, so I did the same.

The motorbike was fussy cut from a piece of the Classic Garage DSP and the birthday was cut from Black Foil using my Well Written Framelits. I have used them so much! The front was completed with a length of Flax ribbon, a piece of Smokey Slate DSP from the Neutrals pack, Basic Grey cardstock, cut with a Rectangle Stitched Framelit, and a Tranquil Tide base, embossed with the Subtle DTIEF.

I used a scrap of the Classic Garage DSP to finish off the inside, which also includes a sentiment from the new Incredible Like You stamp set.
