JAI 674: Just Add Colour

Welcome to the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a colour challenge for you, suggested to us by Rochelle.

The first thing that came to mind was flowers, and the addition of Gold made me think of Christmas. In the end, I went a completely different direction!

How cute is this combi image? It's a digi stamp from Indulgy that I must have received as a freebie. I printed it on some Blending card and then coloured it with a mix of Stampin' Blends and Copics in the challenge colours. I had a gold marker that I used for the headlights, number plate and the logo on the front of the van.

The rest of the card was a bit of a mish-mash of bits and pieces in the challenge colours. I loved the striped ombre paper from the Bright & Beautiful DSP pack, and then I layered some cropped and embossed ovals over the top.

I had the foresight to print a smaller version of the van for the inside of my card. Usually, I forget and then can't be bothered to fire up my laptop and printer again. I coloured it in the same colours as the front. The sentiments that I used are from a retired SU set, called Driving By. I thought it worked well with the image!

JAI #490: Just Add An Easel

Thanks for popping back to check out what the Just Add Ink team are doing for our new challenge. This week Lou has challenged us to add an Easel to our creations.

There are *lots* of different types of Easel Cards out there, but I decided to do something a little different and actually use an easel image on my card. I don't have any stamps or dies, so I googled free easel clip art, and when I found one I liked I cut the shape on my Scan 'n' Cut.

I really loved this vintage woman. Check out the hairstyle! I'm sure it was very fashionable over 100 years ago. This image set the tone for the card - I went for vintage colours and papers. The newsprint behind the image is from the Come Sail Away DSP pack. I tried to cut a piece that wasn't obviously sailing related, and then inked the edges to age it further.

Perennial Essence DSP was the perfect choice for the artwork, don't you think? I used another piece from the pack to cut the oval background. This sentiment from It Starts With Art was also perfect for the card. The metal flower underneath is from the retired Share What You Love Embellishment kit. I aged the silver flower by colouring over it with my Bronze Stamping' Blend.

I'm not entirely sure what I'll use this card for - I guess it could be anything, depending on what I write on the inside!

JAI #479: Just Add Colour

Hooray, it's Friday, so it's time for the newJust Add Ink challenge. This week Jackie has given us an unusual colour combination to work with.

I say unusual, because I wouldn't usually pair those shades of blue and green. I'm happy to say though, that they work together nicely!

I decided to focus mostly on Coastal Cabana, with just a few Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White highlights. I started by heat embossing the sprays from Bloom and Grow using Copper Embossing Powder. I bent the stamp a little before I stamped so that it would fit around the oval better. It's very hard to see, but there is a vellum oval, dry embossed with the Pinewood Planks folder under the flowers and sentiment! The flowers were then watercoloured. I started with the middle flower, and worked my way out, diluting the ink more for each flower.

The sentiment is from Uniquely Creative, and it's called Sweet Sentiments Builder. I love that some of the words in the set have matching dies - it makes my life a little easier! I layered everything onto a base of Coastal Cabana DSP from the Follow Your Art pack. I wanted something with a bit of variation in the colour, not just a flat piece of blue.

The inside was stamped and coloured the same way as the front. I often use Shimmery White cardstock when I am watercolouring, as it's more cost effective than watercolour paper and it handles the water very well.

Blog Hopping With Kelly's Paper Adventures Team

I'm very excited to join you tonight as a Guest Designer on the lovely Kelly Kent's team blog hop. Thanks so much to Kelly and the rest of the Paper Adventures team for the invitation, which I was thrilled to accept.

Kelly gave me a theme of 'S' for the hop. I love these types of challenges, as it's so wide open for interpretation. I always challenge myself to see how many S elements I can fit into my card. Let's see!

The most obvious is the stamp set, Seaside Notions. I'm not usually a fan of sea themed sets, but I really love this one! My background is a piece of See A Silhouette DSP, over which I've stamped the coral image with Silvery Shimmer Delicata ink. The oval cropped from Shimmery White cardstock and then sponged using several inks. I stared with Pool Party at my focal point, followed by Pacific Point a little around the point, then Blueberry Bushell further out, and finally Night Of Navy around the very edges. Hopefully it looks like looking up into the sun from underwater! I finished that panel by flicking some water over the top to give a bubbly effect.

The seahorse was coloured using my Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple Green Pigment Sprinkles. I then heat embossed with Silver embossing powder and used the Bleached Watercolour Technique to remove some of the colour. It gives that lovely translucent look that seahorses have. I then finished off with a sentiment and some sequins. Lots of 'S' elements there!

The DSP I used on the inside was my test piece for the front - I wanted to see how the Delicata ink would look on the DSP before I committed to stamping the big piece. I loved it, so I decided to use the test on the inside. I also had a scrap of the Pigment Sprinkles piece big enough for the shell, so that got used too.

Nature's Poem Doubled

Hi!

Today's card features a new fold that is trending at the moment. I can't recall what it's called - double easel maybe? - but it's a fun one, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Have you seen it around? Think it looks to tricky to try? It's not at all tricky! Start with a standard card base (Soft Suede) and then cut another card base in a contrasting colour (Cajun Craze), but slightly smaller all around. Adhere the smaller card base to the front of the first card base, but upside down. Then just fold the part of the smaller base that isn't stick down in half, so that it forms the zig saggy bit that sits at the front. Decorate, and you're done! I haven't given measurements, because it varies according to the size of your A4 card, but it would be easy enough to google a tutorial for your country.

I used Nature's Open DSP to decorate my card. I don't own the coordinating stamps and dies, so I used ole favourite Lovely As A tree and Picture Perfect Birthday instead. This is what the card looks like closed flat. You could decorate the back section of the front if you desired, but I thought the wodgrain paper didn't need anything else.

I used the same two stamp sets to finish off the inside.

Are you keen to try this card fold yet? It really isn't tricky, but it's WOW enough that the recipient will probably think you spent hours and hours making it. It will be our secret 😜

Saying Goodbye to Wisteria Wonder

Hi!

Wisteria Wonder is one of the colours that has been cut from the range of Stampin' Up! colours starting next month. It's been a purple I've liked using, as it's a lovely, soft colour. Having said this, I'm pretty excited about the new purples, as are the purple lovers that have been begging for a 'true' purple for many years!

The first card today is a CASE of a tag in the soon to be finished Annual Catalogue. You can see it on page 76, smack bang in the centre of the page. It's the tag on the Foil frenzy gift box.

I kept the tag essentially the same. I had to use an oval as the base as I didn't own the Lots Of Labels Framelits set at the time that I made this card.  I also used the flowers and leaves from Happy Birthday Gorgeous. They frame the Happy Birthday diecut so well!

Hmm, thinking back, I don't use the flowers in this set anywhere as much as I should!

My second card pairs Wisteria Wonder with the Delightful Daisy DSP and the Cat punch. I haven't used the punch much, but it has carried over to the new Annual Catalogue, so I've got another yer at least to remedy that!

Teeny Tiny Sentiments is another retiring set that I didn't use much, but it was very handy to have on hand. It contains a HUGE range of sentiments that cover nearly every occasion you could think of, and because they are so small you can fit them anywhere on a card.

I gave this card to my Mother-In-Law for Mother's Day. She loves cats, so it was very fitting for her.

JAI #407: Just Add O

Hi!

Did you survive the first week back at school? I have three tired and grump children after a big first week. Lucky it's nearly the weekend so they can sleep in and relax a little.

Friday also means the new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week it's one of my alphabet challenges. We are challenging you to Just Add O to your card.

What do we mean by Just Add O? It means you can use anything that starts with O on your card - it could be the name of a stamp set, a technique, a theme or an embellishment, or any combination of the above!

I included 4 O's on my card - I used the outgoing In Colours to create an ocean scene that you can see through an oval opening. How's that for clever? LOL

I started by die cutting the oval opening and then lightly marking the edges on the card base. I then masked, sponged and stamped the ocean using Dapper Denim and the water stamp from Fabulous Flamingo. I then flipped the mask over to sponge Soft Sky over the top of the scene. The boat from Swirly Bird was then stamped using Memento, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.

The boat was so cute that I couldn't resist stamping it again on the inside, however I mixed up the colours from the front.

AWH Blog Hop: Favourite Colour Combination

It's time for the monthly Art With Heart Blog Hop. This month is a fun one, and I'm very keen to see what the rest of the team has created!

If you're a bit like me, choosing a favourite colour combination is a bit like choosing a favourite child - it depends on the time of the day, the mood of the children, my mood.... I could go on! I've been on a bit of a vintage roll lately, and using a lot of Tranquil Tide. It's one of the colours that I thought was yucky when I first saw it, but I'm a total convert!

As you can see, this time around I've paired it with Fresh Fig, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla to create my card.

You may notice that the pattern in my Fresh Florals DSP doesn't look white, as it should. I used a clever trick for 'ageing' it - I used my sponge brayer to roll over some Crumb Cake ink. It works a treat for subduing the white in the pattern.

The tulips were stamped in Fresh Fig onto some scrap Very Vanilla, fussy cut and then popped up on Dimensionals. I used my new Sheet Music stamp on the oval, and then went around the edge using one of the stamps in Timeless Textures. I also used the stamp to go around the edge of the sentiment panel.

I think the inside is one of my favourite parts of the card. I selectively inked the Sheet Music stamp, and then pressed parts of the cardstock onto the inked stamp while holding up the rest of the cardstock. I used my fingers to press the cardstock to the stamp so that I got a soft edge to the stamped image. I sponged a little Crumb Cake ink over the top, and then stamped the stamp from Timeless Textures along the edges.

Tranquil Tulips in Watermelon

Hi!

Today I have a card for you that uses a lot of new product from the new Annual Catalogue. It's always such an exciting time of year when you get to see all of the new stamps and papers.

Today's card features a new Hostess set called Tranquil Tulips. I think it's going to be a favourite! I've paired it with the new Delightful Daisy DSP.

Tranquil Tulips is a photopolymer set, so lining up the layers is a breeze. There are 5 layers in this main panel: The stems, leaves, two different layers to the tulips, and finally the stamens.

 

I can really see myself having fun with this set!

JAI #346: Just Add Two

Welcome back to another week of challenges at Just Add Ink.  This week Nikki has challenged us to Just Choose Two.

What do we mean by Just Choose Two? Easy - you just choose two of the named elements and incorporate them into your card. This week you have the choice of hearts, flowers or butterflies. Can you see what I have chosen? The two elements are both on the front of my card. Look closely!

To create my card I had a bit of a play with water. I spritzed my Whisper White cardstock all over and then stamped the solid stamps from Garden In Bloom. I used Sweet Sugarplum and Old Olive. Once the cardstock dried - I left it overnight - I stamped over the top of the flowers and leaves with the outline stamps in the same ink. The water really softened the solid images.

Have you seen the butterflies yet? Take a close look at the next picture.

If you look really closely, you can see that I embossed the cardstock using my Fluttering TIEF. The easiest butterfly to see in this picture is just to the left of the sentiment, where the two leaves are. Can you see it? The vertical leaf runs through the middle of the embossed butterfly.

Just in case you can't see them on the front, I added a couple of extra butterflies to the inside of the card.

A Princess Card

Hi!

Today I have a card for you that uses a lot of retired product.  I had to share it anyway as it's so very cute!  On Sunday we attended the birthday of a very gorgeous 4 year old who is mad on a certain movie - you know, the one that most 4 year olds are obsessed with and sing endlessly.  Thank heavens my children were too old for that movie!

Have you worked out the movie yet? If not I guess you'll just have to let it go...

The princess dress was based on this one, I made a few minor changes to suit the products I had. Once I'd put the dress together I spritzed it with a mix of Isocol and Champange Mist Shimmer Paint (sadly retired) to give it a bit of shimmer.  Hopefully you can see it in the picture.

The only snow flake stamp I have is the one from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar set.  I think it works beautifully on this card.
