CTC 401: CASE The SAB Catalogue

 Hi!

Welcome back to the first CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop for 2023! We like to challenge you to use the wonderful resource that are the Stampin' Up! catalogues, by CASEing ideas from them.

This week, we are starting with the brand new Sale-A-Bration Catalogue. I started browsing at the back of the catalogue, and found this beauty on page 16.

I loved the way that the scene carried across the front of the card, even over the split in the DSP. I also loved the mix of sentiments on the card, and how they connected the two parts of the scene.

I wanted to use the boat punch on my card, and so I changed the orientation of my card. I was a bit worried that the boat would be a little lost on a landscape card.

The background sea, sky and sun are all masked and inked using Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue and Pacific Point ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I cropped the edges using my Basic Borders Dies, and the sentiments were from Biggest Wish and Label Me Bold (retired). The birds are from Beautiful Moment (retired).

The little Daffodil Delight flags were so fiddly, but worth it, I think! I just punched a scrap of card with the mast part of the boat punch and used my snips to trim it to size. A tiny dot of Tombow glue holds it in place.

Colour Creations: Cinnamon Cider

It's once again time for the Colour Creations Blog Hop. This week we are featuring Cinnamon Cider, one of the 2020-22 In Colours. If you love it, you've got less than a year left to enjoy it! It's quite a creamy brown that's a lot lighter than other browns in the SU colour range.

I thought that I'd try it with the sort of sepia effect that I usually use Soft Suede for. I stamped my image, from Beautiful Moment, in Cinnamon Cider ink onto Shimmery White cardstock. I then used a Water Brush with minimal water in the barrel to 'colour' the image. I don't pick up ink from the inkpad with the brush, I just pull the ink in from the stamped image. It's a very subtle effect! The Shimmery cardstock has a bit of a grey cast, but against the Cider it nearly looks blue - which very much suited my design!

I cut the layers under the art panel while I was watching The Block on TV. Silly mistake, as they ended up being too narrow for the card base. Oops! To compensate, I cropped a scallop border using one of the dies from the Penned Flowers set. I like how it adds the stitched line, too. To make the card a little more cohesive, I cropped the art panel using the Stitched So Sweetly dies. The scallops and stitching match very well!

I just stamped the flowers on the inside. I only inked the grass portion of the stamp to fill in the empty space below the line of flowers. I thought it would get too muddy to stamp the whole flower image in the lower sections.

July Creative Showcase: Colouring Techniques

The Art With Heart Team are back with another Creative Showcase, this time featuring different colouring techniques. The Stampin’ Up! range contains a bevy of functional and effective colouring tools that include Water Painters, Blender Pens, Watercolour Pencils, sponges, daubers and even paint.

For a previous Creative Showcase, I created a card that used Stampin' Blends to create a scene that was mostly hand drawn. I decided I had so much fun making that card that I would have another go. This time I decided to use my Beautiful Moments stamp set.

I started by stamping the girls and Rangitoto in stamped off Sahara Sand. I then coloured the sand part of the image. I started with a layer of Light So Saffron, not particularly caring if the colouring was streaky - in fact, streaky is better! I also added Light Crumb Cake over the top. A little Dark Crumb Cake was added around their feet to give shadows. Finally, some Dark So Saffron was used over the top of the Crumb Cake to soften the colour a little.

Rangitoto Island was coloured using my Light and Dark Mossy Meadow Blends. The girls have Bronze hair, with Dark Soft Suede shading, and Ivory skin. The older girl's dress is Highland Heather and her bucket is Granny Apple Green. The little girl has a Rococo Rose dress and a Pumpkin Pie bucket.

Next up was the ocean. I coloured it in a similarly streaky manner as the sand, starting with a layer of Dark Seaside Spray, followed by Light Night Of Navy. I also used my Colour Lifter to lighten parts of the blue. I watched a video by Sandy Allnock to guide my colouring of the sand and sea. She finished her sea by using a white gel pen to add the white areas on the breaking waves. I don't have a white gel pen, so I used Frost White Shimmer Paint instead.

I finished the card with a Light Balmy Blue sky. Again, I didn't worry too much about it being streaky, but I did put a little more effort into smoothing the colour. A few birds in the sky and a sentiment and I was done!

I kept the inside super simple by just stamping the girls again in stamped off Balmy Blue. No sentiment, as I don't know yet how I will use this card.
