Colour Creations: Highland Heather

It's time once again for the new Colour Creations Creative Showcase! This week we are up to Highland Heather, a soft purple from the Subtles colour family. It's a lovely purple, and the addition of it, and Gorgeous Grape, to the colour line up a few years ago made lots of people very happy.

A couple of months ago I participated in an ATC swap that featured the Faux Mother Of Pearl technique, and I thought it would be a good one to use again with Highland Heather.

I started by masking off the strip along the bottom of my Thick Whisper White card base with some sticky notes. I then scrunched up some soft plastic wrap and dipped it onto some Frost White Shimmer Paint. I then dabbed the plastic all along the masked off section. You don't want the paint to completely cover the cardstock, so don't be too heavy handed. Once if was dry I sponged some Highland Heather ink over the top, and then peeled away the sticky notes.

In this extreme side shot you can see the white of the shimmer paint a little better. The poppy was coloured with my Highland Heather Blends and cropped using a Painted Labels Die. The sentiment, from Timeless Tulips, was heat embossed with white embossing powder onto Highland Heather card and cropped with the Banners Pick A Punch.

The bottom of the inside also has the Faux Mother Of Pearl treatment. I was unsure of how to proceed after applying the Highland Heather ink. I was going to stamp the same poppy as the front, but I though it might look too sparse. Luckily the Painted Poppies stamp set has the row of poppies. Perfect! I considered colouring the poppies that sit above the Faux Mother Of Pearl with my Blends, but I decide I liked them better plain. What do you think?

CTC #262 Week 2: CASE The Koala Sketch

For this round, we are challenging you to CASE the layout of this cute Birthday Bonanza card. Here's the sketch we are using as the basis of our cards.

I decided to use a technique, called stamped block background, to create the rectangle elements on my card.

The technique uses a clear block, and inkpad and a spritzer. I gently pressed the clear block into my Coastal Cabana ink pad, misted it lightly with the spritzer, and then 'stamped' it onto my cardstock. I started with the middle rectangle, and then repeated the process to stamp the two outside rectangles. The stamping part can get a little messy, which adds to the look. To make it a bit more messy, I used my Aqua Painter to flick some more Coastal Cabana ink over the card front.

Once it was dry, I stamped the poppy outlines over the rectangles, making sure I went out of the lines. I then used my Bermuda Bay Stampin' Write Marker to add a rough outline to each rectangle, skipping over the poppies. A strip of Golden Honey SDSP, a few sequins, a sentiment from Label Me Bold, and another poppy/leaf cluster finished off the front of the card. After I finished I realised it's a very Port Power looking card! I don't follow the football, so it was very unintentional.

I used the larger poppy outline again for the inside. This time I used the coordinating filler stamp, stamped off, to colour the flower.

CTC #259: Anything Holiday Catalogue

I can't believe I'm saying this, but welcome to the very last CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop for 2019! The year is nearly over and the Crew are taking a small summer break. We'll be back on the 5th January to kick off the new catalogues in style though. But for now, we have a Hop to do! I'm the first stop on this week's Hop, but we are all linked in a circle, so you can start anywhere. Just keep on going until you get back to where you started. You don't want to miss any of the gorgeous projects in the Hop!

For the final Holiday Catalogue challenge, we were able to choose anything in the Holiday Catalogue to CASE. Wow, what a tough choice - there are soooo many fabulous projects. In the end, I selected this tiny tag on page 22 to CASE.

I chose not to CASE the tag itself, rather, the technique. The image from Elfie was stamped in Memento and then coloured with Watercolour Pencils, starting with a layer of the Whisper White pencil. The colours are then layered over the top. The white base gives the colours vibrancy, even though the image was stamped on Crumb Cake.

I'm pretty much done with Christmas cards, so it was time to play with some new stuff this week! I used the Painted Poppies stamp set to stamp the poppy image in Memento on my Crumb Cake card. I also stamped the large splatter stamp around the edges in Crumb Cake, then sponging more Crumb Cake ink over the top.

I coloured the poppies first with my Whisper White pencil, with Real Red and Garden Green over the top. To finish the front, I added a sentiment from Genuine Gems and a Crumb Cake twine bow. I used the CC twine from the Nature's Twine pack, but I only used a few strands, as the whole piece was too thick and chunky for the look I was after.

I stamped the same poppy image on the inside, this time in Crumb Cake ink. I coloured it softly with the Real Red and Garden Green pencils. The sentiment is from the new Peaceful Moments stamp set. I think you'll see that set a lot, as there's a great mix of sentiments and the fonts are fabulous.
