AWH October Blog Hop: Pink

Hi!

Tonight the Art With Heart team are sharing creative projects featuring the colour pink. We hope our Blog Hop inspires you to get creative with the various shades of pink that Stampin’ Up! offer in our collection of 53 colours. 

Now, I must admit that when Ros first gave us the pink theme, my mind jumped straight to the entertainer, P!NK. I went to one of her concerts back in July and hadn't scrapped the experience yet, so I thought why not?

I chose Berry Burst for my colour pink, and complimented it with Basic Black and Silver Glimmer Paper. It's such a fun combo, and what else for an awesome entertainer such as P!NK? To create the title I cut each letter with my Large Letters dies and then simply trimmed of the serifs on each letter. The serifs are the little 'flicks' at the ends of the letters. It changes the look of the font quite a lot! Here's a tip: to adhere the photos and letters over the Glimmer paper, it is best to use a liquid glue as it grips better to the uneven surface of the glitter.

I had fun making the splatters on the page. I started by stamping the splatters from Swirly Bird in Memento ink. It was good, but not quite the right look. I got out my Silver Embossing Paste, and using my Aqua Painter, I flicked it over the top. Much better!

To get the spacing right on my text, I wrote it out on a piece of scrap paper, but starting at the bottom of the page and going up. By doing this, I knew where to start my top line so that my writing was perfectly spaced.

Did you notice the Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon at the top of the photo section? I couldn't resist adding a piece of my favourite ribbon, especially when it has the important purpose of hiding my ticket and a piece of the confetti that fluttered down during the concert. I made a little pocket for them  under the panel so I could keep the photos and ticket together, but keep the ticket hidden.

JAI #412: Just Choose Two

Hi!

Yay for Friday, and double yay for a Long Weekend! Do you have plans? I need to sort out my youngest's wardrobe, but otherwise I'm hoping to craft as much as possible. I have a sewing project or two planned also.

This week for our Just Add Ink  challenge, Lou has tasked us to choose two on our cards.

Hmm, which two will you choose? I went with spots and splatters for my card.

I decided to try a new to me technique on this card. I can't recall what it's called, but you basically ink up a mask and then press the cardstock to the mask. In this way, you get the reverse of the pattern you'd get by sponging ink onto the cardstock through the mask. I chose this spotty design from the now retired Seasonal Decorative Masks, inked it up with Mint Macaron ink, spritzed it with a tiny bit of water, and then pressed the card to the mask. I love how it turned out - the splotchy, grungy kind of look.

To finish the front, I stamped some splatters in Early Espresso ink to layer under my sentiment. I really, really, really wanted to add some bling, but I was trying hard to keep this card more on the masculine side, so I ended up using a few retired Enamel Dots in Early Espresso to jazz it up a little.

The bottom of the inside was created the same way as the front, but instead of inking the whole piece of cardstock, I gently bent the card so that only the bottom touched the mask. I pressed with my fingers to ink up the small section. Doing it this way gives a random, messy edge rather than a straight one, which would look a little odd.

JAI #407: Just Add O

Hi!

Did you survive the first week back at school? I have three tired and grump children after a big first week. Lucky it's nearly the weekend so they can sleep in and relax a little.

Friday also means the new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week it's one of my alphabet challenges. We are challenging you to Just Add O to your card.

What do we mean by Just Add O? It means you can use anything that starts with O on your card - it could be the name of a stamp set, a technique, a theme or an embellishment, or any combination of the above!

I included 4 O's on my card - I used the outgoing In Colours to create an ocean scene that you can see through an oval opening. How's that for clever? LOL

I started by die cutting the oval opening and then lightly marking the edges on the card base. I then masked, sponged and stamped the ocean using Dapper Denim and the water stamp from Fabulous Flamingo. I then flipped the mask over to sponge Soft Sky over the top of the scene. The boat from Swirly Bird was then stamped using Memento, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.

The boat was so cute that I couldn't resist stamping it again on the inside, however I mixed up the colours from the front.

JAI #395: Just Add Inspiration

Are you ready for a new Just Add Ink challenge? I am! This week Kelly found this gorgeous Inspiration photo for us to base our cards on.

Isn't it stunning? It made me think of two very special places - my hometown, where the cherry blossoms in Spring made the streets come alive with gorgeous pink colour. It also reminded me of my time with Rob in Paris, where we strolled through parks and gardens that were so lush with foliage and so immaculately maintained. Two sets of very happy memories!

The picture is very romantic to me, so I decided it was best to make a wedding card. The sentiment suits the picture so well!

Here's how I made it: first, I masked the top two thirds of the card and sponged Crumb Cake ink on the bottom third using my Sponge Brayer, trying to get the colour darker along the edge of the path. I then stamped the splatter from Swirly Bird over the top. Next, I masked off the middle section of the card. I used my sponge brayer to add Tranquil Tide ink, again trying to make it darker along the edges. I then removed the bottom mask and stamped the dotty stamp from Dragonfly Dreams along the edge of the colour, making sure that some of the stamping fell in the Crumb Cake section. I was trying to blur the hard lines created by the masking.

I then repeated the process with the top section of the card, this time with Flirty Flamingo ink. I used the largest floral stamp in Beautiful Bouquet over the top, and also the dotty stamp from Dragonfly Dreams to soften the edge. I then stitched around the vellum sentiment and the edge of the card. It still needed more, so I ended up adhering some clear heart shaped sequins to the front. You may just be able to see them to the bottom left and top right of the sentiment panel.

I was a bit sponge brayered out by the time I got to the inside, so a few of the dotty stamps had to do!

JAI #377: Just Add Colour

Hi!

I'm a bit excited for this week's Just Add Ink challenge!

This week it's a colour combination, suggested by Rochelle, and I think it rocks! I love the mix of blues, and the addition of Lemon Lime Twist gives it a fresh lift. What do you think?

As I was very enthused about this combo, I decided to cut loose and have a lot of fun with it. You know that fun = mess, don't you? LOL

Would you believe that there are three different stamp sets used on this card? I started with the swooshy stamp in Playful Backgrounds in Pool Party. I then stamped some splatters from Swirly Bird in Dapper Denim over the top. I then got out my Embossing Paste and added some Lemon Lime Twist, before applying it over the top of the stamping using the diamond mask from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks.

While it dried, I stamped and watercoloured the images from Best Birds. I've had this bundle for a year and hardly used it - now that I've started playing with it, I'm not sure why I haven't done so before now. It's a great set!

I sort of ran out of room for a sentiment on the front, so I had to put it in the inside. I really tried on the front, but there wasn't anywhere to put it that didn't look tacked on. Oh well, sometimes it's good to break the rules and not put one on at all.

JAI #370:Just Add A Sketch

Oops! I'm a bit late this week - Friday snuck up on me!

This week Narelle has designed a sketch for us to use in our card making at Just Add Ink. I quite liked this one, and found it difficult to narrow down and settle on one idea.

In the end I decided to have a bit of a play with the returned Glossy cardstock.

I started by using my Aqua Painter to colour the large circle in Lemon Lime Twist. After it dried, I coloured the smaller Wisteria Wonder circles. When dry, I stamped over the top of each of the circles with some of the swirly stamps from Swirly Bird. They looked a little too stark against the watercolour background, so I ended up going over them again with a little water to soften the look.

For the leaves, I dabbed a little bit of water where I was going to stamp each one, and then stamped over the top. You can see how the water and ink pooled differently on each one, giving a lovely, individual look to each leaf.

I used the smaller flowers and leaves again on the inside. I couldn't get the same look, as I was using Whisper White cardstock, but I still like the way they turned out.

JAI #362: Just Add Colour

It's been a super busy blogging week for me, but today's post is the last for the week. Of course, being Friday, it's my Just Add Ink card.

 

This week Nikki has given us this gorgeous colour combination. I've always liked Pool Party and Bermuda Bay together, but the addition of Peekaboo Peach adds a freshness to the combo.

I needed to make a card for a baby boy who is being Christened this month, and so I decided that I would use these colours to make a card suitable for that. The little sailboat is a great image for a boy's card.

I stamped the boat on Shimmery White cardstock that I'd cut using the Stitched Shapes die. I then carefully watercoloured the ocean using Bermuda Bay (which is not showing very true to colour), and the sky with Pool Party.

I don't have any Christening sentiment stamps, so I left the inside blank apart from another little sail boat.
