JAI #358: Just Add Stitching

Hi!

This week's challenge at Just Add Ink was suggested by Rochelle, and it's one that's right up my alley! This week we are adding stitching to our projects. It cane be real stitching, or faux, it really doesn't matter as long as it's stitching.

I've been sewing since I was a very little girl, and it's something that I've wanted to incorporate more in my card making. I've recently purchased/modified a new desk so that I can have my paper crafting on one side and sewing on the other. It's not quite finished (IKEA has temporarily sold out of the drawers I need!), so the sewing side has become a little bit of a dumping ground. I managed to clear a little space to allow me to sew on my card though.

I went for a mix of retiring and new products on the card. I stamped the sunburst from Kinda Eclectic (retiring) on some Powder Pink cardstock in the matching ink (new!). I then laid the two die cuts from Sunshine Wishes (carrying over) on the card and sewed through the three layers. I finished by stamping the You from Crazy About You (retiring).

I then adhered the Powder Pink panel to some Berry Burst cardstock (new!) and stitched around the edge of the BB card to give a border. Now, if I'd been paying attention and not trying to cook dinner at the same time, I would have noticed that the tension was all wrong on the sewing machine. Whoops! I did notice in time to sew a much nicer looking border on the PP panel. Lesson learned!

I probably should have stitched a border on the inside BB card too, but by this point of time in making the card and trying to cook dinner the vultures children were circling and demanding to be fed. Oh well!

JAI #352: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Here we are again, with another new challenge for Just Add Ink. This week Nikki has given us this gorgeous colour combination to work with. I fell in love with it straight away.

You may have worked out that I'm a bit in love with the Sponge Brayers. I couldn't resist getting one out again for this card. Tempting Turquoise looks fabulous as an ombre background, don't you think?

I cut the largest Stitched Shapes Square Framelit from the base once I'd brayered it. I added a few layers underneath it to hide the cut. I love the colours together with a splash of Whisper White - they look so crisp!

I recently purchased the Foxy Friends bundle and finally got a chance to play with it on this baby card. I look forward to playing some more in the future - I think it's going to be great for baby/toddler cards.

Catching Fireflies with Jar Of Love

Hi!

Today's card was one I made a while ago, but haven't gotten around to blogging yet. It was a card class made by request of a lady who wanted a card for her young grandson, who loved catching bugs. This card on Pinterest was one I took inspiration from.

I used one of the foliage stamps to create some grass. Originally I only had it on the Whisper White panel, but I ended up carried it across the whole card. I really like how it looks.

The fireflies are so cute! The glow part is a little round stamp in the Jar Of Love set. I mimicked the look of the glow by making the sentiment circle Daffodil Delight, the same as the glow.

I love the inside sentiment - and I think it's so true when it applies to a card given to a grandchild by a grandparent.

Moroccan Washi CAS CASE Card

Hi!


Phew, what a blog post title that is! Say that three times quickly - CAS CASE Card!!


Anyway, today's card is CASEd from this card by Bekka Prideaux. I found it during a search of washi tape cards on Google and instantly loved it.

I just love how it lets the Washi tape become the feature of the card

The twine adds a sweet little border between the Washi and the sentiment.

I added another little strip of Washi to the inside to complete the card.

A Happy Pop Of Pink

Hi!


Where do you get inspiration for your cards? I often look through the catalogue at the cards to get a bit of a spark to start the creative process. Today's card was a CASE of a catalogue card. You can find it on page 84 - it's the one on the left with the pineapple.

I don't have the Pop Of Paradise stamp set that is used on the card, but I certainly didn't let that stop me! I substituted with the Hello You Thinlits and Crazy About You stamp set.

I've made this card at a few classes this month. Some of my ladies wanted a thank you card instead of a birthday card. To do this, we simply stamped the 'you make me' stamp from Crazy About You at the top left of the card instead of the 'birthday' at the bottom. Too easy!

I love this combo of stamps from the new Thoughtful Banners stamp set. A hot pink and black card is certainly worthy of a fabulous birthday!

Zoo Babies in Pool Party

Hi!


Have you checked out the Retiring List yet? My go-to set for making baby cards , Zoo Babies, is on the list.

I used the Markers to Rubber technique on the giraffe to get the multicoloured image.

The stars were punched using the Confetti Stars Border punch. I also used it to decorate the inside of the card.

It's such a sweet stamp set. There are some super cute replacements in the new Annual Catalogue though!

JAI #307: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Waa Hoo!  Not only is it Friday, and therefore Just Add Ink challenge day - it's also the last day of school for Term 1! It's been a long few weeks watching a lot of my interstate friends enjoying their holidays on FB, but now it's our turn!

This week Nikki has set a colour challenge, and it's fabulous!  I'm a real fan of yellow paired with gray, so thisd one was right up my alley!

Here's what I came up with using the colours.

I quite like the way that the sunburst and stars lok like a firework going off in the background. I stamped the sunburst from Kinda Eclectic, but stamped it off first so that the Delightful Dijon wouldn't dominate the card too much. The stars, from Perpetual Birthday Calendar, were stamped in Smokey Slate over the top.

The 'happy' fromt eh Hello You thinlits makes for a bold sentiment over the top of everything else.

JAI #298: Just Add V

Hi!

This week at Just Add Ink it's my turn to set the challenge and I'm challenging you to Just Add V to your cards.  It can be anything to do with V - violet, van, VW, vase, you could even go for the obvious and make a Valentine!

I decided to make a 'Vest' card for the V challenge. I have to say though, my kids looked at this and thought I'd made a Dr Who card - I think it was the bow tie that did it.

I used a sheet of DSP from the Going Places DSP Stack for my vest.  I drew up a template on the back of the DSP and then hand cut the curves. I used some Real Red Candy Dots and Candy Dot bases for the buttons.

I went super simple for the inside, just using Crazy About You to stamp the sentiment.

JAI #287: Just Add Inspiration

Hi!

First up, apologies for this post going up late - Blogger has not been playing nice with me, playing hide and seek with the log in button all week. Anyway, I'm in now and here with the current Just Add Ink challenge. This week Jodene has inspired us with a collage of gorgeous photos.

Aren't the colours fabulous? Having said that, I went for a mostly yellow card in homage to the picture on the right.

I really loved the geometric centre of the flower and thought of the Joy Folding technique straight away.  I'd never tried it before, so it was a good opportunity.

It's a little time consuming, but the end result is well worth it. I used strips of Daffodil Delight DSP from the Brights Stack and the Schoolhouse DSP pack on my card.

I had a few strips left over so I decided to use them to jazz up the inside of the card.

Lighthearted Leaves Birthday Card

Hi!

When I first saw the new Holiday Catalogue the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set caught my eye.  Not so much for the sentiments (although I love the believe one!), but for the leave stamps themselves.  Today's card was one of the first I made when I received the set.

I've paired the stamp set with some other Holiday Catalogue items, such as the Merry Moments DSP Stack and the Woodland TIEF.

I made this card as a class sample.  My ladies had a bit of fun with the card, and a few played with the layout.  Some centered the squares or the circle, some centered both. Some switched the sentiment and made a Christmas card.  They all looked great!

The Cardmaker's Children

Hi!

Do you know the saying about the cobbler's children? "The cobbler's children have no shoes". Sigh. I think the proverb could be applied to my house sometimes - the cardmaker's children have no cards. I often get so busy making cards for classes and other people that my own family tend to get neglected.  Today's cards are ones I made recently for Alex and Ada for their birthdays, which are in April and July respectively.  I know, parent of the year! To make matters worse, I showed them their cards and then told them they couldn't have them until I'd photographed them for blogging.  I think they are used to it by now!

Ada's card was made with the Hey Girl stamp set.  I would have been in big trouble if I'd used any other stamp set! I coloured it with my Blendabilities and then did a quick watercolour wash over the background, being very careful to NOT touch the Momento ink with my Aqua Painter.

Alex's card was CASEd from a fellow Demonstrator, Tracey Humphries.  I can't find a blog to link to though.  I saw her card in a closed demonstrator group. It's fantastically easy though - just the star within a heap of circles!  Awesome boy card.

Having admitted being VERY late with my  two oldest children's cards, I will say that I was MUCH faster with Hudson's.  He turned 8 on Sunday and I made his card yesterday.  You'll have to wait until Friday to see it though, it's my Just Add Ink card for the upcoming challenge.

JAI #276: Just Add Male Cards

Hi!

Oh gosh, it's been a hugely busy week!  Thank goodness it's nearly the weekend, which means it's time for the new Just Add Ink Challenge.

As it's zooming ever closer to Father's Day Jan has challenged us to make a male card.  Silly me didn't even twig onto the Father's Day connection, but my card would be super easy to change to be a Father's Day card.

Do you remember me telling you I was in love with the Corrugated Paper/Leaves Framelits combo for male cards? I think that was in my JAI post last week! Such a winning combination for masculine cards. Chuck in a bit of splatter from Gorgeous Grunge and you're getting close to perfection, LOL!

Isn't it just begging you to reach out and run your fingers over the corrugations?

Super easy inside - you could easily whip up one or a few of these cards in no time!

AWH Blog Hop: Father's Day

The Schoolhouse DSP was one of the DSP packs that first caught my eye in the new Annual Catalogue.  I've used my two favourite sheets on my card for today's Blog Hop.

Don't you just love the bikes?  They are so much fun! And I'm a real sucker for scattered polka dots. This card is a real departure from my usual masculine cards. It's so light and airy!  I usually go for neutrals with a splash of colour, but this card turns that 'rule' on it's head.

I really love the bold black matts, they add a cool touch of drama to the card.
