JAI #464: Just Add Colour

It's that time of the week again - the new Just Add Ink challenge is live, and it's a fun colour challenge suggested by Jackie.

It took me a long time to think about what I cold do with these colours, and in the end I decided to use a new stencil that I purchased recently. It's called Holes Small and is by Ranger.

I lightly taped it down over a piece of Whisper White cardstock and then used my sponge brayer to add the ink. There's Granny Apple Green at the bottom, Soft Sea Foam in the middle and Flirty Flamingo on top.

I die cut the now retired Happy Birthday die four times - once each in Granny Apple Green, Soft Sea Foam, Flirty Flamingo and Basic Black and then layered them up in that order. If you look carefully, you can see the different layers under the black. A subtle, but cool effect! I finished the card by doodling in some of the circles and adding some Black Faceted Dots.

Instead of dots I got a bit lazy and went for stripes on the inside - just some offcuts of the cardstock to match the front colours. The stamp is from Genuine Gems, and I coloured it with my Granny Apple Green and Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends.

Lemon Lime, But No Twist

Welcome to the new Colour Creations Blog Share for this week.

This week we are looking at Lemon Lime Twist - a colour that I originally thought 'OMG, what are they thinking???', but have since come to love! It's such a bright, fresh colour.

I've been pondering over this card for the past 2 weeks or so. It's my first 'post Orlando trip' card, but I've been thinking about it on and off while I was away. I knew I'd be jet lagged, so I wanted a simple card that wouldn't take too much brain power to put together, but still looked fabulous. Hence, the 'Lemon Lime, but no Twist' title of my post, LOL.

The basic design was set pretty much from the start - the LLT stripes on a Basic Black card with the BB die cut. I liked the boldness of the colours and simplicity of the design.

I worried that it was a little too simple though, so I added the fussy cut balloons from the Broadway Bound SDSP pack (which is also where the striped DSP came from). Overall, I was pleased!

Oooh, did you notice that the inside contains a little sneak peek? The cupcake was also fussy cut from the Broadway Bound SDSP, but the sentiment is from a stamp set from the upcoming Occasions Catalogue called Amazing Life. It's a really fun birthday set.

K For Kaleidoscope

This week at Just Add Ink our challenge is to Just Add K. You can see the card I made for the challenge here.

Today's card is a reject card for the challenge. Don't get me wrong - I like the card - I just decided to go in a different direction.

So the "K" in this card is the technique - it's called a Kaleidoscope card and you can find instructions for making it here. Basically you create a little triangle template from acetate and use it to outline each of the 8 wedges in the card. They are then fussy cut and arranged in a circle.

This card ended up quite large - about 6 inches square. What I thought were smallish triangles turned into a big card! Those hippos were just begging to be turned into a kaleidoscope, don't you think?

To make the the strip across the bottom of the inside, I used my trimmer to cut a straight line. I lifted the blade when I ran into a hippo and dropped it back down after it. I then used my snips to fussy cut around the hippos. A little bit of extra effort, but worth it I think.

So now I'm off to think about what other DSP I have that I could use to make a Kaleidoscope card. Are you thinking about it too?

Summery Daffodils

It's Tuesday evening, so time for another Colour Creations Blog Share.

This week we are working with Daffodil Delight - a fun summery yellow that is always cheerful. I paired it with another colour from the Brights Collection - Bermuda Bay.

Once again I have used the smooshing technique. I will stop using the technique soon, I promise. Maybe...

I smooshed with the two colours, deliberately using the Bermuda Bay under where I planned to sit the Happy Birthday die cuts so that the Daffodil Delight would pop. The shadow effect created by offset layering the Bermuda Bay die cut underneath helps with that pop.

I used my Playful Backgrounds stamp to create a background on the inside that it a little bit like the smooshing on the outside. Close enough for me anyway!

Saying Goodbye to Wisteria Wonder

Hi!

Wisteria Wonder is one of the colours that has been cut from the range of Stampin' Up! colours starting next month. It's been a purple I've liked using, as it's a lovely, soft colour. Having said this, I'm pretty excited about the new purples, as are the purple lovers that have been begging for a 'true' purple for many years!

The first card today is a CASE of a tag in the soon to be finished Annual Catalogue. You can see it on page 76, smack bang in the centre of the page. It's the tag on the Foil frenzy gift box.

I kept the tag essentially the same. I had to use an oval as the base as I didn't own the Lots Of Labels Framelits set at the time that I made this card.  I also used the flowers and leaves from Happy Birthday Gorgeous. They frame the Happy Birthday diecut so well!

Hmm, thinking back, I don't use the flowers in this set anywhere as much as I should!

My second card pairs Wisteria Wonder with the Delightful Daisy DSP and the Cat punch. I haven't used the punch much, but it has carried over to the new Annual Catalogue, so I've got another yer at least to remedy that!

Teeny Tiny Sentiments is another retiring set that I didn't use much, but it was very handy to have on hand. It contains a HUGE range of sentiments that cover nearly every occasion you could think of, and because they are so small you can fit them anywhere on a card.

I gave this card to my Mother-In-Law for Mother's Day. She loves cats, so it was very fitting for her.

Popping and Twisting With Cool Treats

Hi!

Did you spot the Cool Treats stamps and coordinating dies on the Retiring List? I was a little surprised to see them there, as I feel like they haven't been around long enough. I could have played more with them, but time is now short.

This is actually a card I made a year or so ago, but it's the only one I have in my "To Blog" list that uses Cool Treats. I made it when the paper was still current, and now I can't even recall the name of it. The joys of getting old! Tasty Treats DSP, that's it!!

The card was made at the height of the Pop and Twist trend a year ago. I thought the cute little ice cream cones were perfect for the 'pop' part of the card.

How cute is that sentiment? Cool Treats was such a fun suite for kid's cards, but we must say goodbye to some old products to make way fr the exciting new ones. Not long to wait now!

Retiring Party Animal

Hi!


I had to laugh at the blog post title, as I reflected on how long it's been since I considered myself to be a 'party animal'. Probably a good 20 years! I'd much rather curl up with a good book these days. And if that doesn't make me feel old, I don't know what will.


Anyway, in case you hadn't guessed, today's card features the retiring Party Animal DSP, with a sneak peek at a new Annual Catalogue product.

I think this confetti/streamer paper is my favourite from the DSP pack. Emerald Envy is a fabulous colour, so bright and vibrant.

How cool does this new Thinlit look? It's called Happy Birthday Thinlit, and will be available from June. On this card I have cut it twice - once with Tangerine Tango, and again with Basic Black. I've adhered them together, offsetting the black so that it looks like a shadow.

I repeated the candles on the inside just to finish off the card.
