Colour Creations: Petal Pink

 Hi!

Welcome to Petal Pink week of the Colour Creations Blog Hop. Are you a fan of the soft, peachy pink? I am not! I much prefer a pinker pink, LOL! I did have fun playing with Petal Pink ink this week, though. My first SAB order arrived, and I had full intentions of making a card using my Lighter Than Air DSP, but I got completely sidetracked by my Paper Butterfly Accents.

I used a cloud mask with a Blending Brush and Petal Pink and Pumpkin Pie inks to create the cloudy sky. Hopefully the colours make you think of a sunset or sunrise. I used Petal Pink along the edge of the mask, with Pumpkin Pie along the top of the pink - just soft layers that blended nicely. The butterflies were popped up over the top using Dimensionals. Can you spot another new product? The Mini Alphabet dies are so cute. I love the chunky font.

I didn't add a sentiment to the inside yet, just more cloud and a smaller butterfly. This card is very multipurpose, so I'll stamp a sentiment (or not) when I know what I'm going to do with it.

JAI 612: Just Choose Two

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink Challenge. I hope that you find time to play along with us, as it's a fun one!

This week, Kim has challenged us to Choose Two of Fur, Clouds or Stitching to add to our cards. Hmm, what a choice! I went for Fur and Clouds.

I also decided to make a fancy fold, so that the castle sat back from the front of the card. This fold is called a Reverse Centre Step card. I love the dimension that it gives my scene. The castle is a digi stamp from Kindred Stamps, called Little Town Life Bonus. As you can imagine, it coordinates with the fur element of my card - the beast on the front. He's from a physical stamp set, called Little Town Life.

The clouds were created using a template cut from the Rainbow Builder Dies and a Blending Brush with my Balmy Blue ink. The grass is a Hello Sweetums Die, called Grass Is Greener.

The images on my card were all coloured using my Copic markers. It's such a relaxing way to unwind from a busy day.

JAI 599: Just Add Your Favourite Animal

Hi! 

Here we are once again on a Friday, ready for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Tristan has challenged us to add our favourite animal to our projects.

Hmm, what's your favourite animal? I'm not really sure that I have a favourite, so I decided to go in a bit of a lateral direction for my card!

Hehe, are you old enough to remember this animal? I recently purchased the Kindred Stamps Showtime box, which featured a motley group of friends who love putting on shows. This dude is the drummer, and he loves bursting through walls.

I popped him up on a wobble spring to add to the movement in the card. To create the opening in the wall, I used a circle die to cut an opening and then tore little sections away from the circle. I folded them back on themselves to keep the brick paper exposed rather than the pattern on the back of the paper.

The inside features another character, and animal, from the Showtime box. I gave this card to my oldest son for his birthday. He's just turned 19 and is being left at home on his own for the first time, as we take the younger two away for a long weekend. He has to work, which is why he's not coming. So the sentiment on the front is a play on this - I've told him 'no wild parties' while we are away. Thankfully, he's not the type anyway!

JAI 594: Just Add Masking

 Hi!

Are you ready for the weekend? It's a long weekend here in Adelaide, so I'm sneaking off for a quick girl's weekend by the sea. I can't wait! There'll still be plenty of crafting time to be had, though, so get your entries in for the new Just Add Ink challenge.

This week Kerry has challenged us to add Masking to our cards I think I went a little overboard, but why not? LOL. To put it simply, masking is protecting one area so that you can apply ink to another area without getting ink on the first area. Got it? I hope so!!

I've just received this Clearly Besotted stamp set, called Picture It Castle. I can't resist anything from this fandom!! My first mask was the large oval. I cut it from copy paper and laid it over my cardstock before stamping the image over the top. I left it in place while I coloured the image. I also stamped the castle on a sticky note and fussy cut it, creating another mask so that I could use a cloud stencil (another masking tool) to create the sky. I'd also cut away the lake part of the image so that I could use a Blending Brush to ink the lake. How fab does the moonlight on the lake look? I just faded out the ink over that section.

I'd also used a circle punch to crop a mask for the moon, which I used while I was sponging the clouds. After I'd completed the clouds I removed the mask and then used the negative to allow me to colour the moon without getting the ink into the clouds. Finally, I popped the could stencil back in place so that I could do one cloud covering the moon. My final masking technique on the card was to mask off part of the bird stamp so that I only inked one bird. The stamp is from On The Horizon. I also used this technique to mask off part of the sentiment. I used the first line on the front and the second line on the inside. The stamp set is Expecto Stampo from Ink Road Stamps.

So much masking! But it was worth it, I really love this card! I celebrate my 20th Wedding Anniversary next month, so I think this would be a good card to give to my hubby.

JAI 586: Just Add Summer

 Hi!

Hooray! Welcome back to the Just Add Ink challenges for 2022!! Did you miss us over our Summer break? I hope you're keen and raring to go!

As always, we start the year with a blog hop, and this year the theme is Summer, with the bright and happy inspiration photo as an additional prompt. The lovely Tristan was the stop before mine.

I loved the rainbow of colour in the Inspiration photo, so that's what I went with in my card. The dies are a long-retired SU set, called Rainbow Builder Framelits. I popped them up on a Stitched Rectangles die cut and then used my Manly Moments stamp set for the sentiment. You may know that stamp set as being from the For The Guys Card Kit, but I got it when I was in the USA, and it was the Manly Moments Paper Pumpkin kit.

It's sunny in Summer, right? So I couldn't resist adding a sun to my card. It's from Uniquely Creative, called Stitched Sun Die.

The DSP I've used on the front and inside of my card is the Host pack, Pattern Party. It definitely suits the rainbow of colour theme!

Colour Creations: Highland Heather

Hi!

Well, aren't we tearing though the colour range? We are already up to Highland Heather, a lovely, soft purple. It's a colour that I really like, but perhaps part of that is because my beautiful mother's name is Heather. I decided to make a whimsical card with the pretty purple.

I started with a cloud template cut from a piece of Window Sheet. I used a long-retired die, but there is a similar cloud die in the Basic Borders Dies. A Blending Brush was used with the template to create the cloudy sky background. I think the whimsy comes from using purple instead of the expected blue.

My Brilliant Wings Dies butterfly is a double layer of Silver Foil and Whisper White card. I only used glue on the body of the butterfly layers, so that the wings could be raised. It adds lovely dimension and movement to the card.

To make the inside complement the front, I added a few more layers of clouds, and a much smaller Silver Foil butterfly. The sentiments are both from Sweet Strawberry, with the one on the front cropped using a Tasteful Labels Die.

JAI 576: Just Add A Moving Element

 Hi!

Welcome once again to my blog for the start of the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week it's one that Kelly and I dreamed up - to add a moving element to a card.

What do we mean by this? It's simply something that moves on your card. Some examples may be things like a wobbler spring, a spinner or a slider of some sort - if it moves, it counts! I've always been intrigued by the idea of the Theatre or Stage card, so that's what I decided to make.

I used a combination of a few different tutorials to make the base of my card. Most Theatre cards are landscape orientation, but for the idea I had I needed a portrait orientation. I used the wooden and brick papers from the In Good Taste DSP, as I was trying to recreate a magical alleyway that opens at the tap of a special umbrella.

Here is the card with the brick panels opened up to reveal the alleyway behind. The gigantic character is from a Kindred Stamps set, called Masters Of Magic. I coloured him with my Stampin' Blends. He's an earthy character, so I stuck with Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and Soft Suede.

I was reasonably happy with my first attempt at a Theatre card, but I think I'll have another go at it soon. What Moving Element do you think you'll add to your card? JAI 565: Just Add Colour

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. It's a colour challenge this week, suggested by Lou.

Aren't the two new In Colours wonderful together? I love the drama that the black adds to the mix. Having said that, I used black very minimally on my card!

I started with my Pale Papaya background, created with my Blending Brushes and a template created using my retired Rainbow Builder Dies. The word 'thanks' is a retired SU, from the Greetings Thinlits set. My peachy princess is from a Kindred Stamps set, called Plumber Brothers, and she's coloured with a mix of Copics and Stampin' Blends. Her hair is Dark Pale Papaya and her dress is Polished Pink.

My favourite part of the card is very hard to photograph! I wanted to add some sun rays, but I couldn't add another colour to the mix. My solution was to lay my Heffy Doodle Zapp Attack Stencil over the card and 'colour' through the openings with my Wink Of Stella pen. It's so sparkly in real life, but I had no chance of capturing it in a photo, sadly. You might be able to see a little bit of sparkle to the left of the princess.

The friend that I am making this for was kind enough to use her embroidery machine to make a label for the quilt that I made for my oldest son, so it was a great excuse to break out my Altenew Crafty Life stamp set for the inside sentiment. I'll be excited to get the label so that I can finish the quilt!

CTC #304: Love You Always Suite

 Hi!

Welcome to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. It's always fun looking at which catalogue, or part of the catalogue, we are challenged to CASE each week. This week was an extra challenge for me, as I am really not into any of the lovey-dovey stuff!

The Lovely You Always suite is allllll about love! You can choose any project from pages 10-13 to CASE this week. I had to look past the hearts and flowers to find a card to CASE. I liked the layout of this card on page 13.

The angled banner behind the main sentiment was the feature that caught my eye. I love a good banner, but sometimes it's good to shake things up by doing a single diagonal cut, rather than a flagged end. Don't you agree?

I had some Darling Donkeys sitting on my craft desk, ready to be coloured, so that's what I decided to use on my card. To go with the country look of the donkeys I used some of my In Good Taste DSP for the background. I really love the wooden papers!

The grass is from the retired Wiggly Bugs Dies, and the sky was created using a template made from the Rainbow Builder Dies and my Blending Brush with Balmy Blue ink. You may noticed that this frolicking donkey is popped out from the card - he's actually on a wobble spring! The spring happened to be on my desk near the donkeys, so it was the perfect combination for my card. 

You can check out the wobble in the video. However, my phone camera did not pick up all of the wobble - very strange! Still, it's enough to give you the idea. He's having a grand old time leaping through the grass!

And now he's all puffed out! LOL! I thought the sitting donkey was the perfect addition to the inside of my card, along with matching grass and sky. I'm not sure yet who I will give this card to, but hopefully they find it just as fun as I do!

JAI #537: Family

 Hi!

It's time for Just Add Ink to resume for 2021! Yay! As always, we start the new year of challenges with a Blog Hop featuring the entire Design Team.

This year our chosen theme is Family. 2020 was such a crazy year for most of us, whether you spent more time with family due to lockdowns, or you were separated from family by border closures and travel restrictions. For me personally, I enjoyed the time at home. We were very lucky in South Australia that it was for a relatively short time. I also had weekly zoom calls with my mum and sisters, as we are scattered all over Australia. It was wonderful to connect with them more regularly.

I thought for a long time about what I could make for the Blog Hop, and then I saw a bookmark that a friend had made for her diary and though that it would be the perfect choice for the theme. My diary is a vital part of my life, and my family's life, as I keep track of everyone's appointments and schedules. The number of times that I get asked "Can you check your diary?" or, "Am I free on xxx day?" is huge!

I started by looking at the outside cover of the diary, and particularly the colours of the stripes. I thought that they would work well for a rainbow, so that's where I started. I used the retired Rainbow Builder Dies to cut the arcs. Real Red, Bumblebee, Shaded Spruce, Pacific Point and Melon Mambo were the colours that matched the best.

I used an old SU stencil to create the sun's rays with a Blending Brush and Daffodil Delight ink. Have you used the new brushes yet? They are lovely to use, and I quite like the larger head. The clouds were created using one of the lines of cloud dies in the Rainbow Builder Dies and another Blending Brush with my Balmy Blue ink. The die cut rainbow was adhered over the top, with a die cut cloud hiding the ends of the arcs.

The phrase I stamped in the sun is from the retired stamp set, Ribbon Of Courage. I thought that it was very uplifting, and a good reminder every time I open my dairy. The sun and the rainbow are also a reminder that after the storms come the rainbows. The sun will always shine again.
