Masked Stars

I mentioned recently that I participated in a cyber crop last month.  Today's card is another of the cards I made for one of the challenges we were set on the weekend.  The challenge was to use the colours in an inspiration picture that we were given.

There were a lot of bright colours in the inspiration picture we were given.  They were such a happy combination so I decided to make a happy card to go with them.  I used the new Stars Mask to create my happy card.  I held the mask over the cardstock and used my daubers to sponge the colour over the mask.  My old style inkpads worked the best, but I think that's because they are less 'juicy'.  I just need to remember to press a little lighter on my newer inkpads!

I didn't have the Star Framelits at that time, so I used my Eclectic Paper Piercing templates to pierce a star pattern and then I hand cut around the piercing.  I layered it on some Daffodil Delight cardstock and hand cut the matt.  Easy!

I also used the mask on the inside, but to make it a bit easier I sponged in Daffodil Delight only and they added some star punchies to bring in some colour.

The masks really are a heap of fun to play with!

Layouts 59 and 60

Hi!

As another weekend draws to a close I realise I have forgotten to do my 100 Layouts post.  For those of you new to my blog I have challenged myself to scrap 100 layouts this year and I'm posting them 2 at a time on the weekend.

LOL, I call this one my 'Pretty Woman' layout! Not because someone was rude to me in a shop, but because I was carrying so many bags by the end of my shopping trip.  Rob and I had a free afternoon so we decided to hit the Avenue des Champs Elysees for a spot of shopping.  Oh, who am I kidding?  I wanted to go shopping and Rob was happy to tag along and carry my bags for me!

I had lots of fun, especially choosing some things for the kids.  Ada's favourite was some Disney Princess perfume from the Disney shop.  I enjoyed the experience, but the strangest part for me was the communal change room in one shop.  I was in line waiting to try on a top and I was able to work out that the shop assistant was telling us that if we didn't mind an open change room we could jump to the front of the line. I said "oui" and went straight in!  It was women only, but a big open room.  A great idea to move things along a bit faster, but not so great for your self esteem if you happen to be next to a gorgeous, slim woman!

The next day we took the Metro out to Saint Denis to see the Cathedral out there.  It's kind of the 'sister' to Sacre-Coeur, as apparently St Denis had his head chopped off at Sacre-Coeur, picked it up and walked off to where the Cathedral at Saint Dennis now stands!

The Cathedral is where a lot of the French Royalty are buried, but it's a very long and turbulent history.  As fascinating place, but so very cold inside!  The guides all had very thick jackets and little heaters under the desks they sat at.

JAI #226: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

We've rolled around the calendar to another Friday, so it must be time for another Just Add Ink challenge.  This week Kim has designed a fantastic sketch to inspire us.

As soon as I saw the sketch I thought of my Circle Card Thinlit and decided to use it for my card.

I also decided to use the new and very cool Confetti Celebration DSP.  I really love the bright colours and fab patterns in the pack.

I also used my new Little Letters Thinlits to create the sentiment. I think it looks great with the DSP behind it.  I love how easy it is to place and cut the letters, especially the way you can use the negative sections too.

I mirrored the flag on the front with a second on the back.  Allowing it to hang over the side gives me more space to write my message to the recipient.

It's so hard to photograph flip cards!

A Blendies RAK

Hi!

A little while ago I participated in a weekend cybercrop.  It was fun to create all weekend and participate in some challenges while in my PJ's.  Part of the fun was getting to bond over the internet with team members in all parts of Australia.  One of the challenges we were set was to create a card and send it to another team member.

I had a Blended Bloom image coloured with the Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities sitting on my desk, so I decided it was the perfect time to turn it into a card.  Also sitting on my desk was the new Dots and Stripes Decorative Masks, so I decided to make use of  the Dots mask too.

I sponged over the mask with some retired Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  I really like the streaky look it achieved.

I was pleased to find out that the recipient had been having a bad week and that the card really cheered her up. I was glad I selected her when I heard that!

Happy Birthday Rob!

Hi!

On Saturday my darling Hubby celebrated his birthday.  He got a bit of a sleep in, followed by gifts and cuddles in bed with me and the children.  He's a bit (ok a lot!) of a superhero geek, so a lot of his gifts were along those lines.  I just had to make a card to match.  After a little bit of research I settled upon a stylised logo for the thingy that Iron Man has in his chest that keeps him alive.

As it was round, I thought that the best way to go was to make an easel card.  The colours I used are Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry.  The Cherry Cobbler looks a lot like Bravo Burgundy in these photos though!

I didn't have an appropriate superhero sentiment stamp in my collection, but that was no worry as I was able to use my Alphabet Rotary Stamp to make one instead!  The little hearts are from the Point and Click Project Life Photopolymer stamp set.

One last shot!  After I'd made it I showed it to my kids, who are nearly as superhero geeky as their dad.  Neither knew what it was, but I'm pleased to say that Rob knew what it was straight away.  He even called it by it's correct name, which is an Arc Reactor. (I only knew that because he's sitting beside me as I type and I asked him!).  The circles were made with a mix of Circle Framelits and Circle Punches.  The hardest part was working out which sizes to use!

Layouts 57 and 58

Hi!

I'm really late with this post - it's been a busy weekend!

On our walks around Paris we saw this cool graffiti.  We really loved the way that the grates in the ground were turned into the skeleton's rib cages.  So very clever!

Our next stop was Sacre Coeur.  We strolled through Montematre to get there and really enjoyed the feel of the area - it's known as an artistic area of Paris, although petty crime can be high!  Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart) sits on the top of a very high hill - apparently when you are in the dome you are as high above sea level as you are at the top of the Eiffel Tower!

We chickened out of climbing the very steep stairs to the top and caught the Funicular instead.  It's basically a cable car that goes up and down the slope.  Rob was determined to have a nice sketch done of himself, but after getting scammed at the Eiffel Tower we were a little more careful this time.  We saw an artist drawing another lady so we watched him for a while.  Rob liked his work, so as he finished with the lady Rob approached him and he was willing to do the sketch.  I wasn't keen, so I wandered around trying to get a sneaky photo of Rob being sketched.  As I did I had another man approach me and start drawing me!  I couldn't get away as I didn't want to go too far from Rob, and being the non-confrontational type I ended up paying him for the sketch.  Sigh...

Sacre Coeur itself was beautiful and the views from the top of the dome were stunning.  We also toured the crypt and did some people watching out the front.  Lots of dodgy tourist trinket sellers and even some living statues.  It was a fabulous atmosphere and a beautifully sunny day.

JAI #225: Just Add Colour

Hi!

Yippee! It's Friday and if I'm really luck I'll get a knock on my door later today that will be my postie with my new order.  I'm hoping it arrives tomorrow so I can play over the weekend.  Will you get in some crafting time over the weekend?  Why not try a card for the new Just Add Ink challenge?

This week Patrice has chosen this gorgeous colour combination to follow.

Isn't it great?  I love the neutrals with a soft pop of colour!

I started by stamping Positively Chevron over the top of the grid paper from the new Typeset Specialty DSP.  I love the subtle effect this achieved!

The rest of the card was stamped with the Amazing Birthday stamp set.  As I was going  for a male card I kept the embellishments to a minimum.  It was really hard not to add some ribbon, so I settled for some Mini Brads instead!

 Nice and simple on the inside, because men really don't appreciate 'fancy'!

I hope you can play along with us this week at Just Add Ink - it's a really fun colour combo and the Design Team have had a lot of fun playing with it.
