JAI #252: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

This week at Just Add Ink we have a sketch challenge for you, designed by the lovely Kim. This sketch struck a bit of fear into the hearts of some of the Design Team, as it features a tilted panel! LOL, it's funny the things that make you nervous!  Having said that, we all agreed in the end that the sketch was fabulous and that really, a tilted panel can be a lot of fun.

My first thought was to use one of the new Butterflies Thinlits instead of the circle. At the time I made this card I'd only just got the butterflies and I was putting them on everything! Using the butterflies meant rotating the sketch though.

I have been wanting to use the Postcard and World Map stamps together for a while and decided now was the time.  However, the card was now the wrong orientation for the stamp, so I had to substitute a piece of the Typeset SDSP instead. I think it works beautifully!

I used Blackberry Bliss, Very Vanilla and Basic Black as my colour combination.  Blackberry Bliss is such a strong colour.  I really love it and probably should use it more!

So, what do you see in this sketch? The Design Team have interpreted it in a variety of different ways.  Why don't you pop on over to the Just Add Ink blog to take a look?

Painted Petals

Hi!

For me one of the biggest 'perks' of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is the wonderful people you meet - both customers and fellow demonstrators.  When you join you instantly become a part of a bigger group that inspires and supports you.  One of those ways is by hosting creative challenges, and today's card was made for an Art With Heart creative challenge.  Claire Daly designed a gorgeous sketch to inspire us to create.  Here's my card.

Most of the layers on the card are made from the new Painted Blooms DSP.  I deliberately cut the main Soft Sky layer to include a subtle swirl in the top left corner.  I knew that part wouldn't be covered by other layers and it adds a little something to the 'white space'.

The sentiment was made from two different stamps in the Crazy About You stamp set.  I purchased the photopolymer version as it allows for precise stamping.  I also purchased the coordinating Hello You Thinlits, but the 'you' diecut would have overwhelmed this card, so I used the 'you' stamp instead.

I love this sentiment - it's great for a Thinking Of You card to be sent to a special friend.

Tina

JAI #251: Just Add Thanks

Hi!

I'm sure everyone has someone in their life that they are thankful for - I know that I have lots of people!  This week at Just Add Ink we are challenging you to Just Add Thanks - make a Thank You card and hopefully send it to someone deserving.

I love this sentiment from Kinda Eclectic and it's perfect for Thank You cards. Would you believe that the DSP on this card started life as a 4 inch square sample? It's from the Something Borrowed DSP pack in the Occasions Catalogue.  I simply cut an inch off the bottom to split the paper.  The sentiment conveniently covers the gap.

I'm really loving the new Butterflies Thinlits, also from the Occasions Catalogue.  I think they look a little naked without something on the body section.  I love the Jumbo Rhinestone, however they are retired so I'm going to have to start thinking of something else to put there as I think I only have 2 more left in my stash!

So, who are you thankful for? I can't wait to see your card over at Just Add Ink.

Bye for now,

Tina

MDS Meets Blendabilities

Hi!

Today I have a hybrid card for you.  Hybrid simply means that part of the card was created digitally and printed, and the rest of the card was made using 'traditional' card making methods.

In this case the digital element is the hexagon background.  It's one that I have in my My Digital Studio library of downloads.  It's part of the Lemonade Stand download.  I simply created a 6x4 inch canvas in MDS, selected, positioned and resized the image and then printed it.  I then coloured random hexagons with my Blendability markers.  Easy!

The hard part was actually finishing the card!  I didn't want to cover too much of the background I'd spent so much time working on.  I ended up using the 'yay' diecut from the Circle Flip Card Thinlits and then a retired stamp to finish the sentiment.

I finished off the inside with the cake stamp from the Big Day Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  It's such a great set for making Birthday cards!

Memory Keeping With PLxSU: February

Hi!

Today I have for you my layout for the monthly Memory Keeping With PLxSU Blog Hop.  We had a break during January but now we are back with a new theme.  What better theme for February than Love?

I chose some professional photos we'd had done last year to use on my page.  When we have professional photos done we often forget to have some photos of just Rob and I - we are usually focused on getting good pictures of the kids, or family shots.

I used cards from the Happiness Is PL Card Collection on my layout.  I couldn't find a filler card that was exactly what I wanted so I decided to modify one to suit.  I punched a 2 1/2 inch circle from Hello Honey cardstock, a What's Up? arrow from Blackberry Bliss and a Sweetheart from Whisper White.  I stamped the 'Life Is Good' from Remember This stamp set in Lost Lagoon ink on it first. I snipped the arrow in half so that it could be made to look longer.  So that it lined up correctly I drew a light line on the back of the heart and adhered the arrow halves so they lined up along the line.

So there you have it - my Love layout for February.  The rest of the Memory Keeping with PLxSU Design Team have created layouts for your inspiration too.  You can see their layouts on the links below.  We also have a FaceBook group where you can post your layouts, join in the chat and be inspired.

JAI #250: Just Add Inspiration

Hi!

This week at Just Add Ink Trish has given us some gorgeous images to inspire our creativity.  As it's Valentine's Day tomorrow, it's the perfect opportunity to make a card using her picture board for inspiration.

How adorable are those biscuits and the teacup?  Rob and I don't really 'do' Valentines, so I decided to stick with the love theme, but to make a congratulations card that would be suitable for either a wedding or engagement.

I used some of the Strawberry Slush DSP from the Confetti Celebration DSP pack and the Sweetheart Punch to create the main panel on my card.

Each heart was popped up on Dimensionals and then the whole panel was popped up too.  It's a really lovely pink, even though the photos aren't showing it!

The card is a longer, thinner one than the usual card size to accommodate the size of the hearts.  It's nice to play around with card sizes sometime though!

I hope you can play along with us at Just Add Ink this week.  It's meant to be stinking hot this weekend in Adelaide, so I'm planning to hibernate in my craft space!

Tina

JAI #249: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

Ooh, these Fridays are rolling around so quickly! I can't believe my children are finishing their second week at school - where is the time going?

We have a sketch challenge this week at Just Add Ink, designed by me!  I quite enjoy designing sketches, and then seeing how others interpret them.

Hexagons are so much fun to play with, but I decided to take a less literal approach to the sketch.

This card was made with someone specific in mind,  I knew she was a fan of neutrals with splashes of green and orange, so that's where I started from.

I think that sunburst from Kinda Eclectic is becoming one of my most used stamps! It's fab for adding just that little extra something to a card.

So there you have it!  What do you see in my sketch?  The Design Team at Just Add Ink have interpreted it in many beautiful ways - can't wait to see what you do with it!

Bye for now,

Tina

A UFO?

Hi!

No, I'm not sharing blurry pictures of strange lights in the sky! In the crafting world a UFO is an UnFinished Object!  In this case, while tidying my desk I came across a stamped image that I'd coloured and then set aside to finish later, and well, later took a long time to come around!

I really love the Two By Two stamp, and was a little sad when it retired.  I was excited to find out I could purchase it as an MDS Download though, so it never really retires.

Don't ask me which colours I used, I can't remember now!  I do know that I stamped with Stazon on wartercolour paper and coloured it using my Stampin' Write Markers and Blender Pen. I coloured this so long ago it was before we had our range of Blendabilities!

Do you have many UFO's lying around on your craft desk?  I have quite a few! Hopefully they will become FO's in the near future!

Bye for now,

Tina
