AWH April Creative Showcase: Mother's Day

Hi!

Welcome to the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team Monthly Creative Showcase. The theme for this month’s showcase is Mother’s Day. Under the current conditions Mother’s Day this year is going to be completely different to any other Mother’s Day celebrations.

I'm not sure yet how we will celebrate! My mum lives in a different state and my MIL lives in a little town nearly an hour away from us. I see several FaceTime calls on the horizon for Mother's Day! I guess a mother's job is to keep her family safe and healthy, so we will do that by staying in our little household bubble.

The Art With Heart Team are hoping to share a little Mother’s Day love and inspiration with you tonight.

My Mother-In-Law loves her cruising - although that might change! When I thought of what card I could make for. her, I decide to go with a tropical theme to fit with the cruises she's taken recently. I started by stamping a heap of images from Timeless Tropical in Memento ink. I then coloured them using my Watercolour Pencils, blending with my old favourite, Wink Of Stella. The piece they are layered on comes from the temporarily retired Nature's Thoughts Dies. I sponged the top half with Pool Party ink, and the bottom half with So Saffron, hoping it would look like sand and sky.

I googled frangipanis to see what colours to use, and I found a gorgeous variety called Darwin Monsoon. They are tricolour, so I used Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight to colour the blooms. I layered a couple of ribbons under the sentiment, which is a shortened image from the Beautiful Day stamp set. I didn't have any Rich Razzleberry ribbon, so I coloured a length of Whisper White Seam Binding with my Dark Rich Razzleberry Blend.

I used the same DSP from the front on the inside. Both pieces of Tropical Oasis DSP have been dry embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder. The inside sentiment is from Timeless Tulips. I hope my MIL likes her tropical Mother's Day card, even though she won't be going on any tropical cruises for a very ling time!

CTC #238: Garden Lane

Thanks for joining me for the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. Did you join me from Rebecca's blog, or are you starting here? It doesn't matter, just keep moving around the blog hop until you get back to where you started.

This week we are not only CASEing the colours of the Garden Lane DSP, we are also CASEing cards from the Annual Catalogue that feature the suite. I had a look, and my eye was caught by the Memories and More card in this photo from page 39:

I don't have much of the two 'Lane' suites, apart from the Magnolia DSP, so I had to improvise a little! Instead of using a magnolia bloom, I switched it out for a butterfly.

I kept the layout of the M&M card, I just made it full card size. The butterfly was stamped and coloured in the same way as the magnolia on the card. I just used my Petal Pink Blends to colour the very inner bit of each section of the wings. It gives it such a soft, pretty look.

The bottom of the card looked too square and harsh, even after I'd added the butterfly. To soften it, I used my Leaf punch to crop some leaves from Vellum. I then coloured each one using my Dark Soft Sea Foam Blend and tucked them under the butterfly.

As the butterfly was a huge feature of the front of the card, I used it again on the inside. This time I just stamped it in second generation Petal Pink ink to keep it nice and soft.

AWH Blog Hop: In Colours

Hi!

Tonight the Art With Heart team are sharing creative projects featuring the current In Colours. There are 10 to choose from, including the new 2019 - 2021 In Colours and the carrying over 2018 - 2020 In Colours. For my card I selected three of the new In Colours - can you work out which ones?

Hopefully you worked out that they were Pretty Peacock, Seaside Spray and Rococo Rose.

Last weekend I was invited to attend my friend Kathryn's team stamping day. We like to share ideas and projects, and the lovely Caroline shared some samples she'd made using the Block Fill technique. My card is a bit of a cross between it and the Inlaid Dies technique. Instead of stamping the butterflies and colouring the rest of the rectangle black, I cut a black rectangle and then cut the butterfly shapes from it before replacing the cut bits with stamped and cut butterflies. Hopefully that makes sense!

I finished it off by using a fine tipped marker to add a couple of lines around the rectangle. I added some dots to the inner line, just for a bit of added interest. I quite like this technique, and I think I'll be giving it a go again.

I also used some of the new Pretty Peacock Scalloped Linen Ribbon to back my sentiment. I had to chop it down the middle and adhere it to the back of the sentiment, but it was very easy to do. A bit of Linen Thread and a few black sequins, and the front was done!

I repeated the same elements on the inside - the three colours, the butterflies and the hand drawn border. Thanks for showing me such a fun technique, Caroline!

CTC #225: Easter

Welcome to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. I'm the start of the hop this week, which surprises me, as I'm usually not that organised!

This week we are celebrating Easter by CASEing our favourite Easter projects from either of the current catalogues, or you could take a non-Easter card and make an Easter version. Whatever you like! When flicking through for inspiration, this cute bunny card caught my eye.

It's from page 22 of the Occasions Catalogue, which shows how some products from the Occasions Catalogue tie back to some from the Annual Catalogue. That wasn't what intrigued me though, it was the stitched lines at the top and bottom of the card - can you see them? I decided to run with that, but also step it up a little.

I used the largest circle in the Stitched Shapes die set to cut the background. I started by lightly drawing some guidelines on the Highland Heather card and then cutting the middle circle. I left the circle in place and then cropped the two either side. I then adhered everything piece by piece onto a piece of Gorgeous Grape cardstock and mounted it on my Gorgeous Grape base.

How sweet are these daisies? They are from a new set from the upcoming Annual Catalogue called Daisy Lane. These are smaller than our current daisies and will have a punch to match. Sadly for me, I don't have the punch yet, as I had to fussy cut the six daisies I stamped and coloured with Blends. The leaves are also from the same stamp set.

I'd originally planned to make the daisies on the front with three layers, but I quite liked the look of just two. As I's already stamped and coloured six, it meant that I had two spare for the inside. Yay!  was very happy to discover that the new colour family DSP stacks have a gingham print, so very soon we will have gingham in all of our colours. Double yay!

Beautiful Day For Curry

Here we are again with the new Art With Heart Colour Creations Blog Share.

This week we are using Crushed Curry. I must admit that Crushed Curry is a colour I really struggle with. More often than not if I need a yellow I'll reach for Daffodil Delight or So Saffron. It took me weeks to think of something I could make using Crushed Curry. Then I saw this card and the lightbulb clicked on!

I started by heat embossing the butterfly from Beautiful Day with White embossing powder on Shimmery White cardstock.  I then used my Aquapainter and Crushed Curry inkpad to colour the area around the butterflies. I went a bit heavier on the colour closest to the butterflies and tried to soften it further out. I didn't paint right to the edge of the cardstock, and was in fact very rough about the edges.

I had intended to just used the Crushed Curry ink, but the butterflies looked a little too stark and the embossing got lost in all of the white. To fix this I used my Pool Party ink with the Aquapainter to add the tiniest bit of colour to the butterflies. I love how they turned out!

Over all, I'm so pleased with how this card turned out. I'm still on the fence about Crushed Curry, but now I'm sitting a little closer to the 'like it' side!

A Beautiful Day For Cherry Cobbler

Are you excited for a new week of Colour Creations? This week's it's an old favourite - Cherry Cobbler.

I always try to do something a little different on my Colour Creations cards. It could be a new technique or stamping style, or just a new way to use my stash. I actually used two techniques for the first time on today's card.

The first technique is called Ghosting - and it's why I had to photograph my card at a weird angle! I cut some Glossy White cardstock for the card background and then stamped the large flower all over using Versamark ink. I then used a sponge brayer to go over the top with Cherry Cobbler ink. The versa mark resists the ink, leaving a soft outline. It's just like Emboss Resist without the heat embossing.

The second technique is called Pointilism, and it's how I coloured my focal flower. I used my Blends markers on Whisper White Cardstock, after stamping with Memento. Here's a little breakdown of how to do it

I worked one petal at a time. First, I coloured all over with my Light Calypso Coral Blend.

Next, I took my Light Cherry Cobbler Blend and used the pen nib end to gently add some dots onto the petal. I kept them fairly spaced and more towards the outer edge of the petal.

Lastly, I used my Dark Cherry Cobbler Blend to add more dots over the top. These were a little closer together, especially towards the bottom of the petal where I wanted the shading effect to be darker. I used the same technique on the leaf using the Dark Pineapple Punch and both Old Olive Blends.

I mimicked the front of the card on the inside, but in reverse.

Are you inspired to try Pointilism with your Blends? I think I need to practice a little more to perfect my technique, but I certainly had a lot of fun with it.

AWH January Blog Hop: Occasions Catalogue

When I went to On Stage last November and we were shown the front page of the Occasions Catalogue, I immediately fell in love with the butterfly card. I was thrilled to receive the stamp set in the Prize Patrol giveaway later in the day. I haven't actually used it much though - time to change that for tonight's blog hop!

One of the great things about the butterfly is the large open spaces within the image - perfect for colouring. But what if you're not a colourer? Or just in a lazy mood? Or you're wanting a card in a hurry? Well, you just need to find some DSP on which you can stamp the butterfly!

I chose this DSP from the Delightful Daisy pack. To be honest, I really don't like this particular sheet of paper. But sometimes you need to look at things from a different perspective, and so I decided to stamp on it and fussy cut the butterfly to see how it looked. I was amazed at how much nicer it looked! What do you think?

I went over the butterfly with my Wink Of Stella pen. I think I've been using it on nearly every card I've made this year!

I liked the look of the stamped DSP butterfly so much that I decided to make a second card. This time I paired it with the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set, which is also in the Occasions Catalogue.

I used my Tranquil Tide marker to colour just part of the sentiment. I didn't want all of it on the front, as it would have pushed the butterfly too high up on the card.

This butterfly has had the WOS applied too - such a shame that you can't see it in the photo. The ribbon peeking out from behind the die cut is also shimmery - it's one of the Sale-A-Bration choices.

JAI #386: Just Add R

This week's challenge is a fun one!

It's my turn to set the challenge, and this week at Just Add Ink I've asked you to add 'R' to your card. What does this mean? You just add anything R related to your card - note that I said 'related', not 'rated' LOL!!

You could use a stamp set that starts with R, a technique, a colour, anything, as long as it starts with an R. I always like to see how many of the feature letter I can get on my card for these challenges, and this time I got 2 (3 if you can stretch and call the Jute Twine rope).

First, and most obvious, is that I made a round card. So very easy with the Circle Framelits. I just cut my card to size, folded it, and then ran it though the Big Shot with the Framelit, making sure that the framelit hung over the folded edge to leave a hinge.

The second R is the robin on my card. I have no idea if it actually is meant to be a robin, but I'm going with it! The stamp is a little sneak peek of a stamp set that is coming out in the Occasions Catalogue in January.

Did you notice that the leaves on the DSP also followed the 'round' theme? It took a bit of measuring, but I cropped it from the middle of one of the sheets of DSP from the Painted Autumn DSP. I think it was worth the effort - it works so beautifully with the round card.

I cropped another little robin for the inside of the card. The sentiments I have used on this card are also a sneak peek, although they come from a different stamp set to the robin. Lots to look forward to in January!
