JAI 773: Just Add A Sketch

 Hi!

Welcome, and thanks for joining me for the new Just Add Ink Challenge. Are you enjoying the new two-week format? I am!

This time we have a sketch for you, designed by Tristan. That huge bow is just gorgeous, but when I sat to create I wasn't in the right kind of mood for the kind of card that suits a bow like that. I went super simple, instead.

I recently purchased the Hobby Haven DSP, but hadn't used it yet. The papers I've used are the one sheet - the pink check is the reverse of the side with the chairs and plants. Doesn't this look like an awesome place to sit and read for a while - or let's face it, a really long time? LOL!

I fussy cut the scene and popped it up over a piece of vellum cropped with a Nested Essentials die. The sentiment is from Australia's first ever Paper Pumpkin kit, Hugs From Shelli. I cropped it with a Happy Little Things die.

The inside used a few left over bits and pieces from the front of the card. I really like how this one turned out! The DSP is really fun, and I can see myself using it a lot.

JAI #497: Just Add A Sketch

Hooray, it's nearly the weekend! Time for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kim has designed a sketch for us to follow. I love all of the different sized squares/rectangles!

I super-sized the shapes so that I could use the Power Of Hope stamp set.

The shapes are just perfect for the images in the stamp set! I stamped them all in Memento ink and then coloured them with my Stampin' Blends. I used Real Red, Granny Apple Green, Night Of Navy, Balmy Blue, Basic Black, Bronze and Ivory.

I'm not sure if you can see, but I embossed the gorgeous Lily Impressions DP with the Subtle 3D folder, just to enhance the 'paint on canvas' look of the DSP.

The sentiments I used are both from the Hugs From Shelli Paper Pumpkin box. It's nice to use them - I often forget about them!

CTC #261 Week 1: Sale-A-Bration

Wow, this week went fast! It's Sunday, which means it's time for the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. After two weeks of CASEing the new JJ Mini Catalogue, we are now CASEing the SAB Catalogue. Did you arrive here from Rachel's blog? Wasn't her card pretty?

It's a smaller catalogue, but there's still a tonne of inspiration to be found. My eye was caught by this card on page 7. I loved how they've used strips of Bermuda Bay cardstock over a Bermuda Bay base to create an interesting background for the card.

I don't know what I was thinking, but I decided to step it up even more! I used Grapefruit Grove, a colour that I haven't used much of lately. It's retiring in July, so I thought I better use it a bit more before it goes!

I started by cutting a heap of 1cm x 15cm strips of Grapefruit Grove. I then used a 1cm x 1cm piece in the exact centre to help me line up the first four strips, laid out around the square. I then used one piece as a spacer to lay out the rest of the strips. I did five strips in one direction before changing. I was so pleased with how it turned out!

After all that effort, I didn't want to hide too much under other layers, so I kept the rest of the front very simple. I like that the die cut from the Painted Labels dies looks a lot like a nest under the bird, which was fussy cut from the Bird Ballad DSP. The sentiment label was from the new Stitched So Sweetly dies. A few Grapefruit Grove Faceted Gems finished the front.

I also kept the inside very simple, just a sentiment from the SAB set, Happy Birthday To You, and a small flower, fussy cut from the DSP.

Our new schedule of challenges means that you now have two weeks in which to get your challenge card made and posted to the group. This is Week 1 of the new challenge, so you have plenty of time. Just head to our Facebook group and upload your photo there. Don't forget to let us know which card you've CASEd.

CTC #250: CASE A Layout

Welcome to the CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop! Have you arrived here from Rebecca's blog, or are you just starting here? Either way is totally OK, just keep on hopping until you get back to where you started.

This week Rebecca has selected a page from the Holiday Catalogue for us to CASE a layout. You can choose any of the cards and make another based on the design of the card. Which one catches your eye?

The feathery Pretty Peacock card at the bottom right of the page caught my eye. I nearly pulled out my Friends Of A Feather Paper Pumpkin kit, but then I remembered that there was some DSP in the Bird Ballad DSP that had a similar look as the DSP on the catalogue card, with a white design on a coloured background.

So in the end I did use a Paper Pumpkin kit, but it was the Hug From Shelli kit. I stamped the sprig of flowers around my Pretty Peacock card base in matching ink, and then a few in Memento to pop under the label. These I coloured with my Watercolour Pencils and Wink Of Stella.

The label was also from the PP kit, and it was stamped with the Happy Birthday from Magnolia Blooms. I layered some of the twine from the PP kit under the label as a nod to the original card.

I had a few extra coloured sprigs, so they went on the inside. Such an abundance of flowers, I love it!

JAI #463: Just Choose Two

Hi!

This week at Just Add Ink, Jan has challenged us to choose two to add to our projects. Which two? Any two of:

That's right - foil, ribbon or sequins. Hmmm, which two will you choose? I sort of chose mine by accident, as I noticed that this card that I made for a class fit the bill for this weeks challenge! Lucky me!

You may look at my magnolias and think they don't look much like the magnolia set in the Annual Catalogue, and you'd be right! They are Stampin' Up! stamps, but you can find the set in a new, smaller brochure aimed at new stampers. Not that experienced stampers can't buy them though. I liked them as I found the other set too big. The set is called Magnolia Blooms, and it coordinates perfectly with the rest of the Magnolia Lane suite of products.

It's hard to see in the photo, but I embossed the background layer with the Subtle EF after stamping the smaller magnolia. This is the Faux Fabric look, and it certainly looks like fabric. A few green Iridescent sequins and a swish of Petal Pink ribbon and my card was done!

CTC #233: CASE A Layout

Gosh, what a busy weekend I've had - I can't believe it's nearly over! The best part about the end of the weekend is that it's CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop time. Hooray! The blog before mine is Peta's, but as always, it doesn't matter where you start, just keep hopping until you get back to where you started.

This week we are selecting a card from page 36 and CASEing the layout. There are 7 different cards to choose from, so plenty of inspiration to be had. The Mossy Meadow card a the top left caught my eye - the cluster of elements on the card looked fun to play with.

I went with the new In Colour, Pretty Peacock, for my card base, and used the Woodland Embossing Folder simply because I hadn't used it for a while!

I followed the basic layout of the cluster fairly closely, but substituted for different items. The scallop layer is a partial die cut of a Stitched Label using Rococo Rose that was left over from another card. The feathers and sentiment are from the Hugs From Shelli Paper Pumpkin Kit. I stamped the feathers in Pretty Peacock and then used a slightly damp Aqua Painter over the top to colour them. It has the added advantage of curling the feathers a bit, giving the card a little dimension. The Copper Thread is from the Notes Of Kindness kit, and the pearls are from the retired Share What You Love Artisan Pearl pack.

Another feather completes the inside. It was coloured in the same manner as the feathers on the front.

CTC 231: CASE Anything!

Welcome to the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. This week, for the final week of both the Annual and Occasions Catalogues, we are free to CASE anything from either catalogue.

After a bit of searching and thinking, I decided to CASE something with Best Birds, using the new Free As A Bird stamp set. I selected the card at the bottom left of this photo:

I started by stamping the feathers in Sahara Sand, stamped off once. The feather stamp is actually from the Hugs From Shelli Paper Pumpkin stamp set.

I then coloured each flower using my Watercolour Pencils and then blended the colour with my Wink Of Stella pen.

I kept the vellum and twine elements from the original, but I switched from a sympathy card to a birthday card. The sentiment was much smaller, so I used a narrower strip of vellum.

I used the feather again on the inside, with my favourite Bermuda Bay pencil and ink.

Going Softly With Suede

Welcome to the new Colour Creations Blog Share. This week it's Soft Suede's turn to shine! Is it a colour you use often? It's a bit of a strange brown, but I think it works well with vintage themes, so that's sort of where I went with tonight's card.

I received my Hugs From Shelli Paper Pumpkin kit today, and so I ripped straight into it! The birds, splatter and the pink leafy paper are all from the kit. The paper is actually an envelope that I chopped up and then tore the edges of before adhering to my base.

I used products from the coordinating Bird Ballad Suite to complete the card. The sentiment (inside and outside) are from the Free As A Bird stamp set, the Stitched Nested Label Die is the bundled die set, and the fussy cut flower is from the Bird Ballad DSP. I used twine I had in my stash, but there is also twine in the Paper Pumkpin kit.

Isn't this the best sentiment? This card is going to a friend who gave up a lot of her week to help me strip wallpaper and then paint the horrid purple and yellow walls and ceilings in Hudson's room. She deserves way more, but a card is a start!
