JAI 717: Just Add A Sketch

 Hi!

Thanks for joining me for a new Just Add Ink challenge. This week it's a sketch, designed by me!

I have to say, I designed this sketch so long ago that I've forgotten what I had in mind when I made it. I had to put the thinking cap on to work out what to make. In the end, I think that my tulips were a great choice for the three oval elements.

I love the dimension that is achieved in the Tranquil Tulips stamps. The tulips are so pretty! After I'd stamped them, I lightly inked some Balmy Blue ink on the top of the card. It just softened the stark white a little.

There's a lot to be said for simple cards, sometimes!

I used my Simply Said stamp set for the sentiments on the card. It's a lovely, versatile stamp set.

Goodbye, Tranquil Tulips

Hi!

I have another pair of cards for you today, both made using the Tranquil Tulips Hostess stamp set. I think that it's been one of my biggest sellers this year! It's such a gorgeous set, and it's so easy use.

This first card was my own design, and was made for a class during 2017. It's taken me a while to blog it! Looking at it now, I think just about everything I used on it is retiring! The DSP (Naturally Eclectic), sentiment (Milestone Moments), ribbon (Night Of Navy Crinkled Seam Binding) and dies (Lots of Labels Framelits) are all going alongside Tranquil Tulips. I can't recall what colour I stamped the tulips, but the stems and leaves are in Emerald Envy, and that's going too!

I particularly loved the Crinkled Seam binding, mostly because it's so soft and easy to use. If you tied a bow you weren't happy with it was easy to start again - what's a little more crinkle in an already crinkled ribbon?

I just loved how easy it was to make cards look great with the set. The trio of stems gave the perfect placement for the flowers, making them look awesome every time.

My second card was a more recent class card that was a CASE of this card by Wendy Aungst. Wendy's card was for Easter, but I liked it as a Sympathy card. I used the retiring Thoughts And Prayers for the sentiments. I thought that was a stamp set that would never retire!

I didn't change much else from Wendy's card. I used a different sheet of DSP from the retiring Delightful Daisy pack, and also a different ribbon. I used the Whisper White Organza from the Occasions Catalogue. It's another fabulous ribbon that I will miss! I may need to stock up before it retires.

Hi!

One of the things I love most about the school holidays is the lack of places to be! The kids and I like keeping the holidays fairly low key to allow the batteries to recharge. All this means that I usually get a lot more time to stamp during the day, allowing me to take part in some challenges.

Today I'm joining in with the CASEing The Catty Challenge. This week they are challenging us to recreate a card from either the Memories & More or Hostess sections of either the Annual or Occasions catalogues. After a quick flick through both catalogues, the card that most caught my eye was the Feathery Friends card on page 220 of the Annual. I don't have the Feathery Friends stamp set, so I decided to substitute with another of the Hostess sets, Tranquil Tulips.

The DSP background is from the Petal Garden DSP stack. This is one of my favourite designs from the pack, which pretty much means I've hoarded it until that end of catalogue must use it up panic sets in. LOL!

The tulips are stamped in Sweet Sugarplum. I wish you could see the card yourself, because it's much nicer than it looks on screen. My photo editing program and I just couldn't get the colour any truer.

I stamped the tulips again on the inside. It's really hard to see, but I also sponged around them in Pool Party ink, just like I did on the front panel. It's a lovely sky effect, and finishes off the card nicely.

AWH Blog Hop: Favourite Colour Combination

It's time for the monthly Art With Heart Blog Hop. This month is a fun one, and I'm very keen to see what the rest of the team has created!

If you're a bit like me, choosing a favourite colour combination is a bit like choosing a favourite child - it depends on the time of the day, the mood of the children, my mood.... I could go on! I've been on a bit of a vintage roll lately, and using a lot of Tranquil Tide. It's one of the colours that I thought was yucky when I first saw it, but I'm a total convert!

As you can see, this time around I've paired it with Fresh Fig, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla to create my card.

You may notice that the pattern in my Fresh Florals DSP doesn't look white, as it should. I used a clever trick for 'ageing' it - I used my sponge brayer to roll over some Crumb Cake ink. It works a treat for subduing the white in the pattern.

The tulips were stamped in Fresh Fig onto some scrap Very Vanilla, fussy cut and then popped up on Dimensionals. I used my new Sheet Music stamp on the oval, and then went around the edge using one of the stamps in Timeless Textures. I also used the stamp to go around the edge of the sentiment panel.

I think the inside is one of my favourite parts of the card. I selectively inked the Sheet Music stamp, and then pressed parts of the cardstock onto the inked stamp while holding up the rest of the cardstock. I used my fingers to press the cardstock to the stamp so that I got a soft edge to the stamped image. I sponged a little Crumb Cake ink over the top, and then stamped the stamp from Timeless Textures along the edges.

Tranquil Tulips in Watermelon

Hi!

Today I have a card for you that uses a lot of new product from the new Annual Catalogue. It's always such an exciting time of year when you get to see all of the new stamps and papers.

Today's card features a new Hostess set called Tranquil Tulips. I think it's going to be a favourite! I've paired it with the new Delightful Daisy DSP.

Tranquil Tulips is a photopolymer set, so lining up the layers is a breeze. There are 5 layers in this main panel: The stems, leaves, two different layers to the tulips, and finally the stamens.

 

I can really see myself having fun with this set!
