CTC 367: CASE The New Catalogue Cover

Once again it is time for the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. It's been a while since I've played along, but I'm back and raring to go!

Stampin' Up! have just released the new Annual Catalogue. we can't yet show you photos from the inside, but we can show you the cover. Therefore, our challenge this week is to CASE the card on the cover, using the following sketch as a guide.

Nice and easy! I like to shake things up a bit, so I rotated the sketch to make a landscape orientation card.

I've had the On The Horizon bundle for a while now, but hadn't really played with it. This card was a good opportunity to change that. I mostly played with the dies, only using the stamp set for the sentiment. The birds are stamped using the Beautiful Moments stamp set.

I created my scene by blending some Balmy Blue ink onto the top two thirds of the Stitched Shapes circles. The Horizon die cuts were just layered and adhered over the top. Easy! Both circles are the same size - I think that the perspective of the photo makes the one on the right look bigger.

I blended a little more Balmy Blue ink on the inside before adding another tree die cut, and the birds stamped in Misty Moonlight. I didn't add a sentiment to the inside, as it keeps my options open as to how I can use the card. 'Thinking of you' is suitable for a heap of different occasions.

Colour Creations: Purple Posy

 Hi!

Thanks for once again joining me for the Colour Creations Creative Showcase. This week we have one of my all-time least favourite colours, Purple Posy. To me, it's just not a very interesting colour. My apologies if you're a big fan!

I had the idea with this card to sponge some Purple Posy ink around the woman to give a bit of a sunset/dusk like glow. I still have my Purple Posy ink pad , and while it's not a great ink to stamp with, it's OK with sponging. I stamped the image of the woman and then masked her off before using a Blending Brush to add the ink all around her. It's very subtle!

You can sort of see the effect in the second photo. I used the new Pearlescent Paper as my base. I think that it doesn't 'take' ink as well as plain Whisper White, which is why it's quite pale.

Just a bit of simple stamping on the inside, no sentiment. This makes the card a bit multi-purpose, as the front sentiment, "Thinking of You" is generic enough for be suitable for a few different situations.

AWH December Creative Showcase: Summer

Thanks for joining me for the final Creative Showcase for 2020. Rachel has chosen a Summer theme for our projects tonight. For a lot of people, Summer means lazing on a beach, so that't what I decided to do for my card tonight. I've used a mix of Stampin' Blends, ink blending and stamping on my card.

I started this card by stamping my umbrella in stamped-off Soft Sea Foam. I then used a pencil to lightly draw in my lines for the beach, island and horizon. Then I got to the fun part - colouring! The beach was coloured with my Light Crumb Cake and So Saffron Blends. I stamped the shadow and the dotty stamp from Waterfront over the top with Crumb Cake Ink. The island was coloured with my Crumb Cake Blends, and the palm trees were stamped with Early Espresso and Garden Green, with the shadow in Crumb Cake. The umbrella, from Under My Umbrella, was coloured with Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight Blends with a Dark Smoky Slate pole. The sky was coloured using my Blending Brush with Balmy Blue and Misty Moonlight inks.

Finally, the ocean was coloured with lots of Blends. The horizon was drawn with my Light Night Of Navy Blend, and then a small section underneath was coloured with my Light Bermuda Bay Blend. The rest of the ocean was coloured with my Balmy Blue Blends. I finished it off by using my scoring tip to dot some Frost White Shimmer Paint to create some foamy water. I then stamped a few birds and a sentiment from Beautiful Moments.

On the inside I used the Waterfront stamp set to create a little scene that matches the one on the front.

Colour Creations: Coastal Cabana

It's time once again for this week's Colour Creations Showcase. This week we are up to Coastal Cabana, the second of the Brights in the alphabetical order list of colours. It's a colour that I love, so I was excited to see it pop up in the list.

I recently participated in an ATC swap, where we used the Faux Mother Of Pearl technique. I quite enjoyed doing my ATC, and thought that Coastal Cabana was the perfect colour for the technique. Basically, you use scrunched up plastic wrap to 'pounce' Frost White Shimmer Paint over your cardstock and then, once dry, use a Sponge Brayer to apply your chosen ink over the top. You can see the gorgeous shimmer better in the next photo.

The poppy was cropped from Whisper White card using the Poppy Moments Dies. To colour the solid layer I laid the outline die over the top and watercoloured each of the petals individually. I coloured quickly and didn't try to be too neat as I like the messy look.

On the inside I used a trick learned from my wonderful friend, Judy May. I deliberately made my Faux Mother Of Pearl Panel larger than I needed for the front so that I could use the offcuts on the inside. I made sure that when I cut the piece for the front I cut it from the centre of the panel. I then just inset a second piece of Whisper White, cut with the same sized Stitched Rectangle Die, for the inside of my card. A smaller poppy finishes it off nicely.

JAI #517: Just Add A Sketch

Welcome back for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kim has designed a very cool sketch to guide our creativity.

My husband, Rob, recently celebrated a birthday, and so naturally I made him a card. When I looked at the sketch I thought that perhaps it looked a bit like a panel in a comic book. He loves his comics, especially the classic superheroes, so I thought it was worth a try. I loved the results, and so did he!

I used a retired Kindred Stamps set, called Justice Is Served for the two characters. For the top panel, I hand drew the building to make it look as it he is ready to take off in flight. I used my Copics to colour the scene, including using the chisel tip to create the look of bricks. The bird is from Beautiful Moments, masked so I just got one, and the plane from the retired In The City stamp set.

The background of the bottom section was created with the use of the Heffy Doodle Cityscape Stencil. I traced the outline with a Copic Multiliner, and then coloured it with my markers. I'd draw in the black dividing lines before I started, and my final step was to colour them with a black Copic marker.

The sentiment on the front was more suited to one of the characters than the other, so I had to include one for the other character on the inside. I had a lot of fun making this card, and I was so pleased that Rob loved it.

AWH May Creative Showcase: Sketch

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase. This month the Art With Heart Team have amazing projects to share with you that have been inspired by the card sketch below. The sketch is to be used as a starting point and has been interpreted in many creative ways by the Art With Heart Team.

During May, SU Demonstrators are able to preorder select products from the upcoming Annual catalogue. It's a sweet month, as we have products retiring, some carrying over, and some brand new things to play with. I have used some products from each of those categories on my card.

Let's talk DSP! The two papers I have used are from the new In Good Taste DSP pack. This is a must have! Remember the Wood Textures DSP we had a couple of years ago? This pack has a lot of similar papers, but in 12x12! Fabulous! There are also patterns of marble tiles and various textiles. The papers really are amazing. I have chosen a light wood pattern, as this makes me think of the beach, which fits my focal image. The banner was punched from one of the fabric texture sheets. You will just want to run your fingers over it when you see it in the flesh!

Carrying over from the Jan-June Mini is the gorgeous Beautiful Moments stamp set. I'm probably a little biased, as I fell in love with the set when I presented it in Sydney last November. I stamped it on Watercolour Paper in Saddle Brown Stazon, which is also carrying over.  I coloured the image with my Aqua Painters, which are retiring, but being replaced by an even better set of brushes. I love a bit of watercolouring, so I'm excited to get my hands on those! The colours I used on the image are Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, Real Red, Flirty Flamingo, Soft Suede, Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green and So Saffron.

I couldn't resist adding a little more of the fabric DSP to the inside. I also used another length of the Night Of Navy/Sahara Sand Baker's Twine on the inside. Sadly, it's another product that is retiring. It's a lovely, thick twine, great for bows.

I haven't stamped a sentiment on the inside, as I'm not sure what I'll use the card for yet. The 'Thinking Of You' on the front leaves it pretty wide open for a range of occasions.

OnStage Sydney Beautiful Moments Presentation: Avid Samples

Here's the third and final part of my OnStage Presentation sample posts. This time I have my Avid Crafter samples for the gorgeous Beautiful Moments stamp set. An Avid Crafter is one who stamps nearly every day and has to have it all! Sound familiar? I am definitely an Avid Crafter!! They definitely want more difficult projects and are willing to spend a lot of time (and money) on one card.

This card, using the Reflection Technique on my Stamparatus, was the card I demonstrated live on the day. It was a little nervewracking, but I did it! The hardest part is getting the water wash over the reflection part of the image to look right. I used Blueberry Bushell ink and an Aqua Painter. The rest of the image was coloured beforehand with my Aqua Painter and ink pads.

Once the Blueberry Bushell was was dry, I flicked my Chalk Marker over the top to give the look of light reflecting off ripples in the water.

I finished the inside with the image again in Crushed Curry Ink.

This image was originally a 'just trying things out' sample that turned out nicely enough to go on a card. I stamped the image on Shimmery White card using a no-line stamping technique and then coloured them with my Watercolour Pencils and an Aquapainter.

I layered two of the Stitched Labels to go behind the image panel.

The girls were stamped in Coastal Cabana to finish off the inside.

I used the Bridge Fold to create this card. All of the colouring was done on Watercolour Paper using my ink pads and Aqua Painter. I stamped using Stazon Ink.

I added a second row of flowers to the middle of the card, between the front layer and the back, to give the card more depth.

The back of the card uses Shimmery White card, as it copes well with watercolouring, but is smooth to write on.

This card is my absolute favourite of all the cards I made. It was the very first idea I had when I saw Jacque's stamp set - how well it would work with A Good Man. 'Perfectly' is the answer!

I used my Stamparatus and stocky notes to stamp and mask the images, starting with the dad/girl, then the mum/girl, and finally the island - which is actually an outline of Rangitoto Island, just off Auckland. A nice homage to Jacque's adopted hometown! I stamped on watercolour paper using Stazon ink and then coloured with my ink pads and Aqua Painter.

Once again, I used Shimmery White cardstock on the inside so that I could watercolcour.

I also made a couple of scrapbook pages for the Presentation, to show how versatile the set is for all paper crafters. I'd recently been in Auckland for April's OnStage event, so I scrapped a photo of the family there, and another of Rangitoto Island. This will be the opening page of my album.

I also made a pocket page of my sisters and I when we were lots younger and entered a sandcastle building competition.

The two little girls on the beach were the perfect image for this page!

OnStage Sydney Beautiful Moments Presentation: Casual Samples

I'm back with part two of my posts about my recent presentation in Sydney. This time I have the Casual Stamper samples that I made to show off the gorgeous Beautiful Moments stamp set, co-designed by Jacque Williams.

A Casual Stamper is one who has been stamping a little while, but may not have a lot of supplies and probably doesn't stamp more than couple of times a month, and usually for a purpose rather than just for fun/relaxation. They want to try a bit trickier techniques, but nothing too tricky!

My technique of choice for this group was colouring and blending using Watercolour Pencils and a Wink Of Stella pen. It's colouring technique I use a lot, especially in classes. It's not as difficult as regular watercolouring, and you have the bonus of pretty, sparkly cards!

Hopefully you can see the shimmer in this photo! To colour this way, you stamp your image using Memento ink. Take your pencil and colour roughly along the lines in the image, and then take your Wink Of Stella brush and use it like an Aqua Painter, pulling the colour into the open areas of your image. I use circular motions with the WOS brush.

I kept forgetting to use the sweet little butterflies in the set - I wish I'd added a few above the flowers on this card, both inside and front. Oh well - next time!

This card uses the same technique, I just used a Thick Whisper White card base and added some Highland Heather Gingham DSP under the main image.

You can see in her dress in this photo how the technique allows for a bit of shading in the image - the pencils lay darker colour and the WOS lightens it as it pulls away.

This next card is one of my favourites that I made for the presentation.

I stamped the image in Soft Suede on one of the large Magnolia Lane Notecards.

I then took my Chalk Marker and selectively coloured the image, using a quick flicking motion. On the dress, I flicked up from the waistline for the bodice, and then down for the skirt. It's such a dreamy looking card!

As always, I finished the inside with the same technique.
