CTC 428: Artistic Expression Section

 Hi!

Thanks for once again joining us for the new CASEing The Catty Sunday Challenge Blog Hop. It's such a great way to finish off the week, don't you think?

This week we are asking you to CASE a project from the Artistic Expression section of the Annual Catalogue, which goes from page 94 to 119. It's a section that's jam packed with inspiration!

I chose this card from page 101. I don't have any of the products used in the catalogue sample, but I didn't let that stop me! Half the fun of CASEing is taking something and making it yours. In this case, I loved the way that part of the stamped image is cropped and popped up. I think it's such an effective look.

As I mentioned, I don't have any of the products used in the original, so I decided to use It's A Science as my stamp set. I used my Stamparatus to stamp the row of beakers I then coloured them with my Berry Burst, Lost Lagoon, Lemon Lime Twist and Blueberry Bushel Stampin' Write Markers.

The centre section was then cropped using a Layering Squares Die, matted and popped up over the rest of the row. I took the colours from the Bright & Beautiful DSP that I used on the base of my card. I masked off half of the sentiment, and just used the It's Your Birthday section for the front of the card.

I used the other half on the inside, along with a beaker left over from the front of the card. I added bubbles to this beaker, as I thought that it worked nicely with the 'overreact' part of the sentiment. I really love the puns in this stamp set!

CTC 375: CASE Your Favourite Retiring Product

It's always a but of a sad day when the retiring list comes out at the end of a catalogue. There'e nearly always something on the list that I'm sad to say goodbye to. This week at CASEing The Catty, we are asking to to give your Favourite Retiring Product one last hurrah.

For me, it's hands down the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks. They will certainly be finding a permanent home in my stash.

I chose to CASE the butterfly card for a few reasons. I hadn't yet used the butterflies masks, so that had to be rectified! I liked that the butterfly was inked over DSP, and the little peeps of zig-zag trim at the top and bottom of the card.

I hadn't yet used my Heart & Home DSP yet, so it was well past time to cut into it! I'm a blue girl, so this piece caught my eye. I cropped the square from the DSP and flipped it over to use as the base for my butterfly. Instead of zig-zags, I layered it over a scalloped square die cut.

I thought that the woodgrain in the DSP sort of mimics the strips of DSP in the original card. The solid layer of the butterfly was inked using Fresh Freesia ink, with the detailed layer in Misty Moonlight. You can't really see in the photo, but the centre of the butterfly got a swish of Wink Of Stella.

I inked the exact same butterfly on the inside of my card. Sadly, this time the Wink Of Stella smudged into the Fresh Freesia ink. I may have to hide it with a die cut butterfly over the top!

Colour Creations: Mango Melody

It's time for the new Colour Creations Blog Hop! This week it's Mango Melody's turn to feature on our cards. It's a lovely orange tome from the Brights colour family. I don't use orange a lot, but Mango Melody is my go-to when I do.

I was a bit stumped for ideas this week, so I went for a fairly classic card layout. The four squares are a great way to feature either a small image or die cut, and I chose to use my Pierced Blooms Dies. It's been a while since I played with them!

I used my Stitched Greenery Die on the background, but I think it would look just as good with just a white background. You can't see it, but I have added a swim of Wink Of Stella to the white centres of the flowers. Each square was popped up using Dimensionals.

One final flower completes the inside of the card. The flowers are double layered, as I thought that the single layer wasn't quite enough.

JAI #517: Just Add A Sketch

Welcome back for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kim has designed a very cool sketch to guide our creativity.

My husband, Rob, recently celebrated a birthday, and so naturally I made him a card. When I looked at the sketch I thought that perhaps it looked a bit like a panel in a comic book. He loves his comics, especially the classic superheroes, so I thought it was worth a try. I loved the results, and so did he!

I used a retired Kindred Stamps set, called Justice Is Served for the two characters. For the top panel, I hand drew the building to make it look as it he is ready to take off in flight. I used my Copics to colour the scene, including using the chisel tip to create the look of bricks. The bird is from Beautiful Moments, masked so I just got one, and the plane from the retired In The City stamp set.

The background of the bottom section was created with the use of the Heffy Doodle Cityscape Stencil. I traced the outline with a Copic Multiliner, and then coloured it with my markers. I'd draw in the black dividing lines before I started, and my final step was to colour them with a black Copic marker.

The sentiment on the front was more suited to one of the characters than the other, so I had to include one for the other character on the inside. I had a lot of fun making this card, and I was so pleased that Rob loved it.
