Spiral Flower Die

Hi!

As you're reading this post I'm on my way to Melbourne for Stampin' Up!'s Annual Convention.  I'm so excited, as I get to see all my Stampin' Up! friends and get inspired by lots of fabulous displays and speakers.  Let's face it, it's also nice to have a break from being 'mum' and just enjoy being Tina.

Anyway, today's card is one I made for a Flower Cards Class last month.  If you subscribe to my newsletter you would have already seen a picture, now you can see a few more.  A good reminder that it you haven't already, you can sign up for my newsletter over there on my side bar =>

The Spiral Flower Die makes making these flowers a breeze! So quick and easy - the hardest part is sitting there holding them while the glue dries, and that's only hard because I was itching to get on with my card!

I like adding a Jumbo Rhinestone to the centre of the flowers for a lovely finishing touch.

I'm still loving the sentiment at the bottom rather than in the middle.  It's great on a card where you have a lot to write and a centered sentiment would disrupt the flow of your message.

JAI #191: Just Add A Sketch

Hi!

Welcome to frustrated Friday! Why frustrated? My internet for the month has been sucked away by kids watching YouTube videos so I've been shaped back to ssssslllllooooowwwww internet.  Thankfully it's only 'til tomorrow. For now, I'll just post my Just Add Ink challenge card, I'll edit the post tomorrow with the full set of photos. My edits are in italics.

 

This week Delys has designed a super cute sketch for your inspiration.

Isn't it fabulous?  Lots of room for interpretation in this sketch.  Here's how I used it.

Crushed Curry is NOT a go-to colour for me.  In fact it's one of the colours I like least in the SU range.  However, I think it works really well with the Bermuda Bay on the rest of the card.  I took my colour scheme from the Eastern Elegance DSP pack.  I used a small strip of it on the card - a left over from another project that fit perfectly!

Really love the medallion stamp from Happy Day - such a pretty image.

I used it again on the inside, but I stamped it off once first to reduce the intensity of the colour and let the Crushed Curry sentiment stand out.

JAI #190: Just Add Masking

Hi!

Time for another Just Add Ink challenge.

This time it's my turn to set the challenge, and I chose masking.  For my card I chose reverse masking to achieve a 3 dimensional look.  You can find a tutorial on reverse masking here.

I chose three different shades of teal, from memory they were Pool Party, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.  I started with Pool Party and sponged from the edges into the centre, leaving a small section in the middle unsponged.  I followed this with a layer of Coastal Cabana that was thinner than the Pool Party layer, and finally Bermuda Bay around the very edge.

Hopefully it makes the bauble look a bit rounded!  I then stamped the star in Bermuda Bay while the mask was still in place.

I really love this card - it's going to be hard to part with it a Christmas time!

JAI Scrap #22: Just Add A Sketch

A bonus post for you this week, as it's time for the new Just Add Ink Scrapbooking Challenge.

This month Delys has given us this gorgeous sketch to work with.  I really love it and I can see myself using it again.

Remember, the sketch it a starting point - you don't have to copy it exactly, just as long as we can still see the basic sketch.

You can see how I changed bits and pieces of the sketch to suit my theme. The photo was one taken at a Narnia Exhibition we went to in Docklands, Melbourne in December last year.

I used some Thickers from my stash for the title.  You can see that I stamped some splodges under the banner.

I used this Smoky Slate DSP from the Eastern Elegance pack as I wanted to create the feel of a snowy winter.  If you know your Narnia you would know that we were photographed at the Lamp Post that Lucy found when she first ventured into Narnia.  It was cold and snowy then, hence the feel of the layout.

Narnia fans would also know why I snipped off one of the posts on the Lamp Post!  I coloured the chipboard with my Chalk Marker from the Holiday Catalogue.  I had to apply several layers to get the right colour, but it's worth the effort as it too looks lovely and snowy. I used some hand cut cardstock to create a glow for the light and more splodges stamped behind it to create a snowy effect.

I had more photos from out visit to the exhibition, so I ended up scrapping a second page for the layout.  I'll show you that another time.

JAI #185: Just Add Colour

Is it really Friday? What happened to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday?  I think school holidays and sick kids swallowed up those days.  Oh well, better late than never!

This week Delys has given us a gorgeous Colour Combination to work with.  I really loved this combo - so very pretty and feminine.

I was commissioned to make a card for a bride to be on her hen's night.  The wedding theme is vintage, so the card needed to be vintage too. I thought the colours suited the look perfectly.

I didn't have any "Happy Hen's Night" type sentiments, so I decided to leave the front without a sentiment.  I really don't think it needs on anyway.

To 'age' the background DSP I stamped my Dictionary stamp over the top with Sahara Sand ink and then sponged it quite heavily around the edges.

 

You can see the difference between the starting point and the end result.  It's quite a difference, but quite simple to achieve.

 

I also used the Dictionary stamp on the flower panel.  To get the rough look I inked up the stamp, leaving it face up on my desk. I then laid the circle punchie on top and pressed lightly with my fingertips to get an uneven image. Love the effect!

 

I used the same technique to decorate the inside of the card.
