Summery Daffodils

Hi!

It's Tuesday evening, so time for another Colour Creations Blog Share.

This week we are working with Daffodil Delight - a fun summery yellow that is always cheerful. I paired it with another colour from the Brights Collection - Bermuda Bay.

Once again I have used the smooshing technique. I will stop using the technique soon, I promise. Maybe...

I smooshed with the two colours, deliberately using the Bermuda Bay under where I planned to sit the Happy Birthday die cuts so that the Daffodil Delight would pop. The shadow effect created by offset layering the Bermuda Bay die cut underneath helps with that pop.

I used my Playful Backgrounds stamp to create a background on the inside that it a little bit like the smooshing on the outside. Close enough for me anyway!

Gamer's Birthday Card

Hi!

Today's card is one I made for my brother-in-law's birthday. He's very much into pop culture, so I couldn't go past these stamps from Kindred Stamps called Plumber Brothers.

Aren't they cool? I had to google the game they came from so I could colour the characters in the 'right' colours.

I coloured the images using my Copic markers. I especially wanted to try shading the tunnel thingy to make it look round. How do you think I did? It helps if you squint a little so that it blurs 😂

I have no idea what these little characters are called, but they are super cute! I'm pleased to say that my brother-in-law loved the card, so I must have done a good job with the card.

JAI #425: Just Add Inspiration

Hello as you join me for the new Just Add Ink challenge. This week Kelly has provided us with this gorgeous garden picture. I'm so jelly - I would love a garden like that but I'm a complete black thumb so it will never happen in my lifetime!

Sigh.... so pretty!

The wonderful thing about our Inspiration challenges is that you can take anything from the picture and turn it into a card. My mind started thinking about how to recreate the scene and I got so overwhelmed I had to put it aside for a while to think some more. In the end I went super simple - just pulling a few of the colours from the picture and running with them.

I was recently gifted this die by a lovely customer. I've no idea what brand it is, as there was no packaging. I cut the hearts once in Berry Burst and again in Powder Pink, as there are at least two shades of pink flowers in the Inspiration photo. I then glued down the BB outline and pieced the PP hearts into it. Fiddly, but I love the look!

I popped the oval panel onto a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock that has been embossed with the Subtle DTIEF - not that you can see it in the photo! Some ribbon and twine and done!

I used some of my left over hearts to finish off the inside of the card. The layered hearts are very sweet.

A Juggling Act in Santa's Workshop

Welcome back to a new week of Heart Of Christmas. I am loving the new Santa's Workshop SDSP from the Holiday Catalogue, so I'm playing with it again for today's card. I love that so many of the images can be fussy cut to go on a card. If you're not a colourer it can be a great option instead of the stamp set.

How cute is the juggling snowman?  I roughly trimmed around him so that I could drop him with one of my Stitched Shapes Circles Thinlits - yay for not having to fussy cut! Unfortunately the first time I roughly cut him too close and I couldn't fully cut the circle. I've popped him aside to use on another card where I can hide the chopped off part of the circle!

I used paper from two different packs to go on the front and inside of the card. Did you notice that the front of the card wasn't a full card? I trimmed a strip off the front so that the gorgeous candy striped flocked paper from Santa's Workshop could be seen from both the inside and outside. The green star paper is from the Dashing Along pack, which is a promotional item for September only.

Here's the inside. I thought the snowman might be a little tuckered out after all that juggling, so I popped a fussy cut sleeping snowman on the inside. When the card is closed you can't see him because he's tucked behind the juggling snowman.

Beautiful Day For Curry

Here we are again with the new Art With Heart Colour Creations Blog Share.

This week we are using Crushed Curry. I must admit that Crushed Curry is a colour I really struggle with. More often than not if I need a yellow I'll reach for Daffodil Delight or So Saffron. It took me weeks to think of something I could make using Crushed Curry. Then I saw this card and the lightbulb clicked on!

I started by heat embossing the butterfly from Beautiful Day with White embossing powder on Shimmery White cardstock.  I then used my Aquapainter and Crushed Curry inkpad to colour the area around the butterflies. I went a bit heavier on the colour closest to the butterflies and tried to soften it further out. I didn't paint right to the edge of the cardstock, and was in fact very rough about the edges.

I had intended to just used the Crushed Curry ink, but the butterflies looked a little too stark and the embossing got lost in all of the white. To fix this I used my Pool Party ink with the Aquapainter to add the tiniest bit of colour to the butterflies. I love how they turned out!

Over all, I'm so pleased with how this card turned out. I'm still on the fence about Crushed Curry, but now I'm sitting a little closer to the 'like it' side!

Best Birds in Nature's Poem

Hi!

Today's card is one I made for a class way back in July. I wanted to do a bit of watercolouring with my class ladies, and also to show off parts of the Share What You Love Embellishment Kit. In the end, I only used one of the labels, but it's the thought that counts!

You can see on the card that I used the larger label, but I cut it in half so that I could make twice as many cards with it. I love finding ways to stretch my crafting dollar further! The DSP is from the Nature's Poem pack. I love the subtle pattern that looks a little like some woven fabric. It's one of my favourites from the pack.

The bird was coloured to match the colours of the paper and cardstock - Grapefruit Grove and Rich Razzleberry. Bits of it look very yellow in the photo, but that's just the tones in the Grapefruit Grove as compared to Rich Razzleberry. Soft Suede and Shaded Spruce were used on the branch and leaves.

I had a flower left over from the front of the card, so I popped it on the inside beside the sentiment. It was just the perfect space for it!

JAI #424: Just Add Texture

Hi!

Hooray for a new Just Add Ink challenge! This week Di has challenged us to add texture to our cards. I toyed with the idea of using the Faux Silk technique on my card, but then a new stamp set arrived in the mail and I just had to use it!

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a limited edition super themed box from Kindred Stamps that included a stamp set called You're Super. It arrived in the post just before Rob's birthday. He's mad on these super heroes, so it was a no brainer to use them on his card!

To add the texture on my card, I used my Pacific Point reinker to dye some Embossing Paste. I then used a retired mask to apply it to the front of my card. I was worried when I dyed the paste that I'd made it too dark, but it's actually dried lighter! The red zig zag paper was in the super pack from Kindred Stamps.

I stamped this patriotic Super Hero on Shimmery White cardstock using Memento ink and then coloured him using my Watercolour Pencils. Of course, I blended with my Wink Of Stella pen. It's a bit redundant using it on Shimmery White, but I love the way it blends the pencil so much that I just have to use it. I used my Pacific Point, Real Red, Calypso Coral, Basic Black and Basic Grey pencils to colour him in.

This inside sentiment is from another Kindred Stamps set called Building Blocks. The You're Super set had a sentiment that said 'Have a super birthday', but as I'd used super on the front it felt weird to add it to the inside too.
