JAI #62 - Just Add A Box or Bag

How exciting - this is my first week of being a Guest Designer for Just Add Ink!  I was lucky enough to be asked to be a Guest Designer for all of the challenges in April.  Thanks so much to Bronwyn, Delys and the rest of the team for the invitation!

Here's my project for challenge #62 - Just Add A Box or Bag - an Easter Box.

This was a simple little box to make.  I just cut some 12x12 cardstock to the height of the box plus half of an inch.  I then scored along the long side at half an inch, turned the cardstock and scored every 2 and a quarter inches until I got to the end.  There should be a three quarters of an inch piece left at the end.  I cut the tabs on the bottom of the box, making sure I cut at an angle so that the box sits nicely when assembled.  I then put some double sided tape on each of the flaps, including the one at the side of the box.  I then adhered this last flap to the other end of the piece, making the box shape.

To get the correct shape for the base I cheated a little.  I adhered one of the base flaps to a piece of cardstock that was larger than the base size.  I then took off the rest of the tape covers and adhered the rest of the flaps to the base.  It helps if you stand for this step, as you can look directly from above and get an even position for the sides.  I then trimmed the base to size, decorated each side and I was done!

Layout 25: Play

Hi!

Today's layout was a bit of a struggle for me.  The photo of Hudson in the ball pit he got for Christmas is chock a block full of bright colours.  At first I decided to go with bright colours on the layout, but no matter what I tried nothing worked.  Frustrated, I put the photo aside for a while.

When I came back to the photo I had one of those 'der' moments.  The bright colours I was trying to use were competing with the photo instead of highlighting it.  I went straight for the neutrals and the Travel Journal DSP.  Perfect!

I used Crumb Cake cardstock as the base.  I sprayed it a couple of times with my Silver Foil Smooch Spritz.  I then had a bit of a disaster that ended up working out nicely.  I shook my Smooch Spritz as there was still a bit of silver on the bottom.  It splattered everywhere, including on my favourite white tshirt.  While I wasn't happy about the tshirt, the splatters on my cardstock were fantastic!  The layout turned out quite grungy, which is very different to my usual style.

March Blog Hop

Hi! 

Welcome to another little blog hop!  Today's hop will feature a sketch that all eight of us have used for inspiration.  You should have come from the very talented Ros Davidson's blog, and you just need to keep on hoppin' 'til you get back to where you started.

Here's the PageMaps sketch we all used:

And here's the card I made.  I guess you'd say it's quite a loose interpretation of the sketch!  I rearranged some of the elements and turned it into a square.  I used a new punch from the upcoming Autumn Winter Mini Catalogue instead of the postage stamp and the ribbon replaced both the longer vertical panel and the wavy postmark lines.

I kept the sentiment in pretty much the same place, but omitted the trim it was anchored to.

Instead of the lower trim I used Crystal Effects to 'colour in' a row of polka dots on the DSP.

So that's my card!  I love it so much I'm tempted to make another 4 - one in each of the other In Colours.  It would make a lovely gift inside a matching box.

Layout 24: I Am

Hi!

This layout is one of the few I have done that doesn't include one of my children.  I took the photo of myself in the mirror and then added the text in Photoshop.

I used a very limited colour palette to give a striking effect.  I was a little worried about how black the layout was, but I think it worked with the splashes of Sliver/Platinum Shimmer Paint and Baja Breeze.

I used the following Stampin' Up! supplies:

DSP/Cardstock: Elegant Soiree DSP, Baja Breeze, Basic Black
Other: Scallop Edge Punch, Sponge Dauber, 1/2" Circle Punch, Platinum Shimmer Paint

Layout 23: explore

Hi!

Here's a quick layout I put together as a second sample for a scrapbooking class I taught this week.  I took the photos at a Maccas during an impromptu playdate with the kids, and they worked brilliantly for the layout plan I had in my head.  I chose the colours based on the colours in the photos.

I love the bubbly paper in the Woodland Walk DSP pack and the colours matched perfectly, so I used it as the backing for the photos.

Just Add Ink #60

Hi!

Here's my entry in the latest Just Add Ink challenge.  This week the girls set a colour challenge, selecting the colours Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Whisper White and Crumb Cake.  This is what I came up with:

I used a small scrap of Crumb Cake DSP from the Travel Journal pack and some of the brads I have been hoarding.  I really need to start using some of these pretty things!

Layout 22: Vacswim

Hi!

For the past 2 summers Alex and Ada have participated in the Vacswim program.  This involves intensive swimming lessons for 7 days over a 9 day period.  I plan their lessons so that one is in their lesson while the other has some free time in the pool - it makes supervision much easier!  This layout uses some snaps I took on the last day.

Here's Alex's side of the layout.  He's pretty fearless in the water and kept sneaking into the deeper water when he thought I wasn't looking.

Here's Ada's side of the layout.  She's not quite as fearless as Alex, but SOOOO determined to keep up with him.

This last picture shows how I jazzed up the waterdrop paper.  I used my Crystal Effects to 'colour in' a few of the droplets.
